A pitch inspection is taking place today at Leighton at 10.30. Update will be posted once that is completed.

Steve, is that not a little early to make a decision considering the sun is shining?  I believe Leighton had a match postponed a few weeks ago after an early inspection, which was proved wrong by kick off time.  I know we have to let people know in good time, but Berkhamsted is very close, can't we look for a later decision ?

You may be correct Ian but some parts that are shaded by the sun may not thaw.

I appreciate that, but as I say, a few weeks ago Leighton fans turned up at 2-15 to find a perfectly playable pitch after it had been postponed (unknown to them) mid morning.  Hopefully the groundsman will be there to advise the ref.

Timing of pitch inspections is always a tricky one. It has to be done by a level 4 ref so we have a limited choice of local refs who can do that and it has to be done early so they have time to get to their games. If we leave it until the game ref turns up at 1.30 and he then calls it off we have to pay the officials expenses plus the traveling expenses of the opposition. We then have to refund any supporters who may have arrived early for the game plus incovenience those who will be travelling to the game when the postponement decision is made.

Both ourselves and Leighton have a good knowledge of the history of the pitch in these sorts of weather conditions and normally will only call a pitch inspection when we are pretty sure the game won't be going ahead

Thanks Steve, that all makes sense!  Still disappointing though, about time they invested some of the rent money we pay in undersoil heating! Wink

You DO realise there are other parts of the ground you could watch the game from?  Cheesy
