Two Goal Gordon Helps Ducks To Big Win

31JUL

A confident Aylesbury performance saw them run out 4-1 winners at Division One side Cranfield United this afternoon.

A stunning drive from Carl Clay, a John Mullholland header and two from Leon Gordon were the goals as the Ducks made their divisional superiority count.

The visitors controlled the first half with Lea Coulter and Ian Pearce linking up well in attack, and they both had chances as did Paul Edgeworth who shot wide from Coulter's pull back.

It wasn't until the 37th minute that Aylesbury made their dominance pay though, when Clay struck a superb rising drive into the top corner from 35-yards which gave the keeper no chance.

As the greens chopped and changed in the second half they were less dominant, but added a second courtesy of Mullholland's bullet header from a corner.

Four minutes later Leon Gordon claimed his first when he took down a cross expertly before picking his spot from 8-yards.

Aylesbury then took their foot off the gas and Cranfield had a spell of pressure during which Sillitoe made a stunning save to tip a shot onto the post.

He could do nothing moments later though when an excellent chip from 30-yards sailed over his head and into the net for some Cranfield consolation.

In the final minute the excellent Leon Gordon grabbed his second as he weaved his way into the box only to be brought down, and his penalty was perfectly placed to round off the game as 4-1 to Aylesbury.

Ducks Edged Out at Pitstone

24JUL

Aylesburys poor pre-season form continued with a 3-2 defeat at Pitstone and Ivinghoe.

United were once again missing a number of players, including a reserve keeper in Jack Sillitoes holiday-enforced absence meaning coach Glyn Creaser deputised in goal.

Pitstone took the lead after just three minutes and doubled before half an hour with a well executed volley.

But the Ducks rallied and Warren Garcias long ranger followed minutes later by Joey Acheampongs close range finish returned parity before the break.

Aylesbury then bossed the start of the second half and had a number of chances to take the lead.

But the loss of Warren Garcia marked a swing in the game and Pitstone scored the decisive goal with a well taken header as United ran out of ideas, energy and time.

Team: Glyn Creaser, Jamie OGrady, Danny Clay, Paul Edgeworth, Justin Gordon, Carl Clay, Warren Garcia, Dijon Desagurate, Will Smith, Joey Acheampong, Ben Baines

Weakened Ducks Crash at Kidlington

20JUL

A much weakened Aylesbury team went down to a 3-0 defeat at Kidlington this evening.

Unlike the previous pre-season defeats where the Ducks were unlucky not to score, on this occasion - with as many as 10 players unavailable - United rarely posed a threat and in the end the match was as comfortable as the scoreline suggests.

Kidlington had the better of a well contested first half and took the lead on 24 minutes when a through ball caught out the defence and their number 10 gave Sillitoe no chance with a well taken finish.

Leon Gordon had Aylesbury's best effort when he pulled a shot across goal from Steve Miles' raking pass, whilst Miles himself hooked over from close range.

After the break United huffed and puffed but never really got started and two well worked goals within 90 seconds of each other set Kidlington on their way to 3-0 - although Aylesbury were guilty on both occasions of giving the ball straight back to their opponents which lead to their downfall.

Aylesbury's best effort was saved until the very last when Tyrone Taylor's moment of inspiration saw him twist and turn in the box before curling a left-footed shot goalwards but seeing it come back off the crossbar.

Aylesbury will hope for better fortunes with the anticipated return of a number of players for Saturday's game at Pitstone & Ivinghoe.

Team: Jack Sillitoe, Will Smith, Justin Gordon, John Mulholland, Lea Coulter, Joey Acheampong, Jamie O'Grady, Carl Clay, Leon Gordon, Tyrone Taylor, Steve Miles.

The fixtures page is now fully updated with the new scheduled matches.
