After having their run of three straight wins in all competitions ended with a 1-1 draw in the original game in Suffolk on the Saturday, United took their total unbeaten run in all competitions to eleven games with this replay win over Eastern Counties League minnows Sudbury at Buckingham Road - but only just. The visitors took the lead in the 11th minute when Phil Boyland curled the ball over the defence into the path of full back Marty Thorpe who timed his run perfectly and as Ducks keeper Tim Garner hesitated inside his box, Thorpe drifted in and buried his shot past the helpless keeper. United equalised in the 18th minute when Boyland clumsily brought down Cliff Hercules in the box and Dave Botterill tucked the resulting penalty into the bottom corner. What proved to be the winner came in the 53rd minute when sub Gary Harthill?s corner (with almost his first touch) found Botterill who knocked the ball down and volleyed past keeper Dean Garnham.
