After coming back from their 1-5 FA Trophy 1st Round Proper Replay defeat away to Conference side Kettering on the Tuesday before Christmas with a Boxing Day draw at Witney (1-1) and home wins over Cambridge City (2-1) on Bank Holiday Monday and Chelmsford (3-1) on New Year's Day, United's second game in the space of 24 hours saw them take their unbeaten league run to 4 games as they kept up their title challenge with this win at the Rockingham Triangle.

Dave Botterill put The Ducks ahead with his 6th of the season in the 26th minute to give them a half time lead before the visitors' second goal in the 72nd minute from Cliff Hercules completed an unbeaten league Christmas for Trevor Gould's side.
