Trevor Gould went into this game with defensive problems. Kevin Day was missing with a virus while captain Peter Hutter played despite suffering from persistant back problems.

Enfield's line up included a number of well known names, including Andy Pape, future Duck (for twenty minutes) Curtis Warmington, Paul Furlong and player manager Peter Taylor.

Allan Pluckrose kept Taylor in check all afternoon and it was Gary Britnell who had the chances to put his side ahead in the first half. Three times the E's midfielder should have scored; twice he headed wide before Tim Garner acrobatically saved his twenty-yard effort.

The visitors were left to rue those misses eleven minutes into the second period. Live wire striker Darren Collins pushed the ball past Enfield defender Mark Keen and was closing in on Pape when a scything tackle by Keen, desperately trying to regain his position, stopped the United frontman in his tracks. The referee pointed to the spot and Dave Sansom made no mistake with his kick.

The Aylesbury contingent in the 1383 crowd went wild but then had to endure a nerve-racking final thirty odd minutes as their side were put under the cosh by the visitors. Britnell, Robinson and Turner all went close for Enfield and United's Glen Donegal and the E's Graham Pearce got their marching orders, but the Ducks held out for three more valuable points.
