Chris Bangura almost opened the scoring within the first ten seconds, dribbling through from the kick-off and firing narrowly over.
Bromley threatened briefly, forcing Wheeler to save well from a quickly taken free kick, but United were soon in control. They took the lead on nineteen minutes, when an inch perfect cross from Bangura was nodded home by Roni Joe.
There were chances to make it two before half time, Dwain Clarke slipping at the crucial moment after McCormack had pounced on a defensive error, and Peter Clifford having a header well saved by home keeper Haywood.
The keeper was soon in action in the second half, denying Bangura in a one-on-one. However, the deserved second did not take long to arrive, Frank McCormack's speculative free kick squirming out of Haywood's grasp and into the net.
United coasted through the rest of the game, and were able to relax for the England game the following day from the top of Ryman Division One.
