Wealdstone adapted to the conditions the better. Despite playing into the wind they kept United under constant pressure in the first half hour, and went close through Morgan and Scarlett, before the Ducks suddenly clicked into gear and had a flurry of chances in quick succession.
First, a header from Rob Paris put Dwight Marshall clear of the offside trap, but the striker tried to hit the ball first time and poked it wide. Then, Enzo Silvestri's shot from the edge of the area beat the keeper but was cleared off the line. Stuart Maynard tried his luck with a looping effort, but it bounced off the bar. Finally, Dwain Clarke was put through by Maynard but shot weakly at the keeper.
The ?home' side ? inverted commas because they were lodging at Edgware Town ? came out for the second half looking far the hungrier. Five minutes in, Morgan unleashed a stinging shot which Wheeler tipped over superbly.
Shortly afterwards Wheeler was again in action, diving full length to stop a shot from the ironically named Hercules, only for Morgan to force home the rebound. It was no less than the Stones deserved.
For the rest of the game an uncharacteristically toothless United struggled to make a chance, let alone a goal, whilst Wealdstone could afford to miss a couple of glorious chances to extend their lead in the dying minutes.
