Grays were by far the best team at the start of the game, as they were camped in the home side?s penalty area. Aylesbury had a couple of dangerous counter-attacks, but these were comfortably seen off by the Grays defence, well marshalled by Eddie Youds.
Eventually the Ducks gave way to the Grays pressure, and the visitors went ahead after 34 minutes. A through ball sliced the defence apart, and although the original shot was saved, the rebound was headed in by Martin Carthy. 1-0 Grays
Aylesbury went the entire half with barely an effort on goal, and it was little surprise when Grays came out and scored within eight minutes of the restart. Stuart Thurgood wasn?t closed down and he managed to drill in a shot that nestled into the bottom corner. 2-0 Grays
The Ducks were unable to fashion a real chance until the 60th minute, when Dean Coppard rose well to head a free-kick over. However, it was all too late, and Grays scored a third to rub salt into the wounds, in the 76th minute. Danny Hayzelden beat the Aylesbury offside trap to side foot the ball home. 3-0 Grays
So 3-0 to Grays, and seemingly back to square one for Chris Boothe and Aylesbury, after some recent promising performances. Grays meanwhile looked a confident, classy outfit and can certainly take a lot from todays result.
