Aylesbury United made the long journey to bottom of the table University side Team Bath, desperate to recover from their poor midweek defeat at Histon. There was one change from the midweek line-up, with Stuart Smeathers returning to the side in place of injured centre-back Kai Ridley.

It was the visitors who had the first chance to break the deadlock, Leon Gutzmore heading wide after some good work and a cross from the left by Daniel Mead. Then disastor struck - as Aylesbury conceded yet another early goal. The ball was fed wide to Matt Reeves, who pulled it back for the waiting Tomas Javkovic, who had all the time in the world to place the ball into the net. 1-0 Team Bath

As in Tuesday's encounter, recovering from the early blow sadly looked a step too far for United, even at such an early stage of the game, as they struggled to find the final ball or killer touch in front of goal.

Chances were few and far between until the mid-point of the first half, when substitute Dean Powles found himself in in a race for the ball with the Team Bath goalkeeper. His stabbed effort was over the bar, having been played in by Dean Cracknell.

Six minutes later Matt Hayward, always a threat from set-plays, headed a Paul Lamb free-kick wide, before a home player hit an effort straight at Jack Rashid. Another good chance for Aylesbury went astray, Edgeworth with an effort which curled away from goal, and was retrieved on the far touchline. The ball was sent back in for Cracknell to fire an effort over.

In the final action of the first period Danny Maye broke forward down the left-wing, but pulled his shot wide of Rashid's far-post.

Half-time: Team Bath 1-0 Aylesbury

The second-half recovery that the travelling Aylesbury fans were hoping for was made even harder after just three minutes of play, as Team Bath doubled their advantage. A hopeful effort from Javkovic out wide seemed to take a deflection and found it's way past Rashid. 2-0 Team Bath

Aylesbury now had a mountain to climb, but they set about their task in the best way possible - by pressing forward. A Greg Williams throw was flicked on, and the arriving Edgeworth touched the ball wide of the post, Cracknell then had a left-footed effort blocked when well placed.

Ten minutes passed before the next attack, as Cracknell's free-kick rebounded back off the wall, for Powles to hit an effort wide. The chances then started to dry up for the Ducks, handing the incentive to Team Bath to head on the offensive.

Rashid made a good save after a player found himself in behind the defence, and Jon Nicholls had a curling effot held by the Aylesbury stopper. Matt Reeves went on a run worthy of his 'Carlos Valderrama' haircut soon after, eventually bringing a smart stop out of Rashid having weaved around a number of players.

The game seemed likely to end with a whimper, but not so. Edgeworth shot over having created a good shooting chance for himself, and Cracknell had an overhead click blocked by a defender. Gutzmore was then denied a certain goal, having been professionally fouled by Peter Tisdale having burst away from the last man. Tisdale was quite rightly sent-off, but there was to be no goal from the resulting free-kick.

There was a goal from Aylesbury two minutes later though, and after an afternoon of missed chances, Edgeworth finally got on the scoresheet. From outside the area the former Newport Pagnell man picked his spot and unleashed a shot which Darren Chity initially seemed to have dealt with, but he couldn't keep the ball out of the net. 2-1 Team Bath

The celebrations and any faint thoughts of a comeback were shortlived though, as the home side re-established their two-goal lead with virtually the last kick of the game. Substitute Stefan Wojchiechowski took full advantage of more slack Aylesbury defending to score. 3-1 Team Bath

It ended 3-1, and two dismal away showings in a row. The Ducks will know they have to be better in seven days time, or face early elimination from the FA Cup for the third successive season.
