Aylesbury lost their first League game in five, and are still without a win against Team Bath, after a disappointing display at Buckingham Road ended in a 2-1 defeat.

United only really came to life in the final minutes, when they could have snatched a draw, but by then they were two-goals down after their poor defending gifted the visitors two goals.

The returning Jonathan Bewers had an early volley deflected wide, before McCafferty pulled a right-footed effort wide of the post five minutes later as the early signs looked bright for United.

Then came comedy moment of the season, when Team Bath thought they'd scored on fifteen minutes. The ball had only hit the side-netting, but five or six University players celebrated by the corner flag. Aylesbury quickly took their goal kick and raced away, but they couldn't capitalise by scoring.

Aylesbury rattled the woodwork when John Lawford smashed a quickly taken free-kick towards goal, which caught the very corner of the goal-frame.

The visitors sounded out a warning when Sean Canham went close with a glancing header, before Aylesbury were back on the attack as McCafferty burst forward and his great cross was headed wide across goal by Leon Gordon.

The opening goal was against the run of play, and came as a result of sloppy defending by United. Bertrand Cozic found was picked out with a pinpoint cross, but his volleyed effort span off wide. The ball still wasn't cleared by Aylesbury and when it was played back in Cozic was still completely unmarked and headed home easily. 1-0 Team Bath

Aylesbury then created their best chance of the first period. A great move forward saw Edgeworth pick out Gordon, who played in a fine low ball which Lazarus arrived on but fired his shot well over the bar from 10-yards out.

United's task then became a lot harder when goalkeeper Jack Rashid was forced off injured, forcing Greg Williams to play the remaining fifty minutes between the sticks. Matt Butler came on for his second Aylesbury appearance.

Half-time: Aylesbury 0-1 Team Bath

The second half couldn't have started any worse for Aylesbury, as they gifted Team Bath a second. The visitors won back possession in midfield, quickly worked the ball to the flank and delivered a cross, which was missed by makeshift full-back Edgeworth, and Williams was powerless to stop Cozic firing home his second. 2-0 Team Bath

The goal effectively marked the end of the game as a contest, with the Ducks' display lacklustre. Service to striker John Lawford was completely starved, as the veteran cut an isolated figure up front, left to feed on scraps. Wingers Leon Gordon and Neil Lazarus were rarely in the game, and midfielders Butler and Bewers failed to stop Team Bath's dominance.

A rare effort on goal came from midfielder Paul Tisdale for the visitors, which went wide.

Then, inside the last ten minutes, Paul Edgeworth forced Jacob Giles into action for the first time after the interval, as he adjusted quickly to volley Mead's cross goalwards and Giles got down smartly to tip wide.

United were finally looking like the side of the previous Saturday, as they showed some much needed urgency. Thirty seconds into stoppage time they claimed a goal in response, Butler sweetly half-volleying into the top corner with his left peg. 2-1 Team Bath

They could've snatched a dramatic draw had it not been for Giles' heroics, as he acrobatically tipped over Lawford's powerful header right at the death.

It all came too late though - had Aylesbury stepped up their game in such manner ten minutes earlier another goal would definitely have been on the cards. As it was they had to suffer a disappointing defeat to end their recent good run of form in the league.
