Aylesbury's search for a win against Evesham United concluded for another season, but for the second time of 2006/07 the Ducks were left wondering quite how they hadn't secured all three points having twice lead the match.

Jon Franklin made one change, Richard Pringle making his return to the starting line-up in place of Leon Gutzmore, and it was the big striker who duly scored Aylesbury's second goal.

The first half was short on attacking play, chances limited throughout, but it was the visitors in green & white who created the better openings.

Evesham had the first chance though when Daniel Lennon cut inside and flashed a shot across goal and well wide of the target.

Aylesbury's first real attack came on 9 minutes when Luke Melisi did well down the left, playing a low ball into the area for Pringle, but the ball stuck under the body of an Evesham defender before he could get a shot away.

Ten minutes later Pringle headed a wicked cross from Daniel Mead over the bar, after Enzo Silvestri rolled a quick free-kick into the left-back's path.

Pringle went for goal with an ambitious 25-yard half-volley which dropped wide, before Melisi called Nathan Vaughan into the first save of the game. Silvestri dinked a ball over the defence into his path, but Melisi's shot was well saved at the near post as Vaughan made himself big.

Melisi did get the ball past Vaughan five minutes before the break. The ball broke to him and using his pace he broke free of the defence and hit a shot of such power that it came back off Vaughan and a defender before looping into the net. 1-0 Aylesbury

Half-time: Evesham 0-1 Aylesbury

The interval lead was a deserved one for Aylesbury, but Evesham were quickly out of the blocks after the break, and were level in seven minutes after Tom Vincent showed both the good and bad sides to his game. The United stopper firstly produced an excellent low save to tip wide Mark Owen's low drive.

But then at the resulting corner he chose the wrong option in coming to punch, allowing Liam Daly to guide a floating header over the stricken goalkeeper and in off the bar. 1-1

The scores were only equal for six minutes as Aylesbury regrouped and Evesham conceded a soft goal of their own. A long-throw into the box caused a melee, and Pringle was on hand to smash the ball home. 2-1 Aylesbury

Liam Smyth tried a screamer from range which went wide having been fed by Silvestri, then a player chested and volleyed over the bar as the game became stretched in the final twenty minutes.

Kevin Mealor came agonisingly close to sealing the result when he went on a long dribble before placing a shot just wide of the far post, with Vaughan well beaten.

The hosts weren't quite done though, and the the introduction of Troy Wood as a substitute payed dividends when he got in position to receive a square ball in the area and leave Vincent no chance with his first touch of the game. 2-2

The Robins had a chance to win the game late on when Wood half-volleyed just over, but a defeat really would have been harsh on Aylesbury.

Instead, the two play-off contenders had to make do with a point each which does little to indicate which direction the end of season finishing spots will go.
