Match Report

Going into this match with Conference South side Bromley, even the most optimistic Aylesbury fans would have an end to the Ducks' FA Cup campaign for another year.

In the event United more than held their own against their more illustrious opponents, a side who, it should be remembered, are flying high two leagues above Aylesbury.

The match itself was a big disappointment. The first half saw more substitutions than shots on goal, Bromley forced to make two changes through injury inside the first half hour.

There was an early flurry though, Gareth Williams, one of those to be withdrawn, curled a free-kick wide before Nathan Graham found only the side netting with an early shot at the other end.

Many of the green-tinged supporters inside The Meadow might have feared the worst when Bromley took the lead after just 12 minutes. Tom Vincent couldn't hold onto a driven low ball, and Sam Wood took full advantage by smashing the rebound high into the net. 1-0 Bromley

Aylesbury fans' fears weren't realised though, as the remainder of the half past in sterile fashion - the only other incident Sam Swonnel collecting a booking on the half hour mark.

Half-time: Aylesbury 0-1 Bromley

The visitors tried to take control of the game straight after the restart, and Wood ran through but dragged his low effort wide of the far post.

Aylesbury then nearly scored with their first chance of the half when a corner dropped to Ben Stevens in the box, and the midfielder's curling effort might have been heading in, but Nick Leach dived in and diverted it over the bar instead.

Vincent had to be alert on 62 minutes when some Garath McCleary played the ball inside to substitute Ali Chaaban who drove a fierce effort which was beaten away by the Aylesbury stopper.

Swonnel went close for the Ducks with a dipping volley three minutes later, after some decent build up play from his side.

With time running out Aylesbury's fans were becoming frustrated at a lack of urgency from their side, but their cries for a substitution were cut short by an equalising goal out of nothing.

Whilst Bromley fans were protesting for a penalty that never was, a long high clearance allowed Graham to outpace the Bromley backline - caught short for the first time - and finish coolly past the outrushing Walker. 1-1

United's fans had been craving the introduction of Aston Goss, and immediately following the goal he replaced Steve Miles. With his first touch he tried his luck at a free-kick, which narrowly missed the left upright.

Bromley could still have nicked a winner in stoppage time, Simon Glover heading a cross wide, but the Ducks survived and managed a creditable draw, meaning a replay between the two sides will be required.
