Aylesbury returned to winning ways in the league with a convincing thrashing of Willenhall Town at the Meadow.

New signing Ben Gallant (joining from Leighton Town) was given a starting role and looked a useful acquisition, and he was joined by fellow debutant Phillip Nugent who came off the bench to score his side's fifth goal late on.

The first half was a quiet affair, and it was the visitors who had the early chances - Anthony Newton blazing a shot well over the bar. They went as close as they did in the entire ninety after five minutes when a dangerous corner delivery lead to a scramble and John Williams turned the ball wide from close range.

Two minutes later the Ducks threatened for the first time when Taylor got on the end of Mealor's free-kick delivery but headed wide.

A rare lapse in concentration from Aylesbury's defence let Tyrone Barnett in on the half hour but he placed a shot wide when one-on-one with Tom Vincent.

The half was rounded off by the Ducks taking the lead. A cross in from the right by Nathan Liburd found Taylor at the far post who easily headed home. 1-0 Aylesbury

The first half gave no indications of what was to follow though, as Aylesbury proceeded to take Willenhall to pieces after the interval - the visitors just unable to deal with their attacking play.

That wasn't before Williams had been allowed to cut inside and lash a shot over the bar, but it was essentially one way traffic from that point on.

The lead was soon doubled with a fine goal from man of the match Mealor, who galloped down the left touchline, played a one-two with Graham before advancing into the box and slotting past Jackson. 2-0 Aylesbury

United continued to press and good linkup play between Graham and Taylor eventually saw the ball break to Gallant who could only shoot over from the edge of the area.

A third goal came courtesy of Sam Swonnel's first goal in green and white. Lurking on the edge of the area he waited for a corner kick clearance to drop his way before firing home an unstoppable volley. 3-0 Aylesbury

Willenhall simply hadn't turned up for the second half, and the constant pace of Aylesbury's attacks was running them wragged.

Graham went in search of a goal when he left Todd Perry and then Liam Newall in his wake as he sprinted towards the target, but Jackson did a good enough job in spreading himself and saving at the near post.

The visitors had Newall to thank for holding off another goal when he cleared Gallant's low effort off the line after Taylor had pressured Jackson into spilling a cross.

Kavanagh headed a corner kick over and substitutes Nugent and Henney combined before the latter fired over, as Aylesbury refused to show their opponents any mercy.

In a rare effort at the other end Williams again went close when he had a shot deflected wide from close range, but he really should have done better.

Instead, normal service was soon resumed and United added to their tally. The unlikely spectacle of Carl Kavanagh driving forward to the ball was a fine sight, his final pass even better as he picked out Henney who finished divinely with a little poke past the outrushing Jackson and just inside the post. 4-0 Aylesbury

Henney and Nugent linked up again but this time Henney slotted the ball wide inside the final five minutes.

But there was still time for a fifth and final goal. Another unstoppable run from the superb Mealor eventually ended in the ball being crossed low for Nugent who couldn't miss from 5-yards. 5-0 Aylesbury

A Barnett shot from range went wide at one end and Taylor's effort at the other was held by Jackson, as the game was brought to a close and Willenhall were quick to make for the dressing room - as one of the predicted playoff hopefuls had been left well and truly humbled by Aylesbury.
