Aylesbury cruised to the top of the Division One Midlands table with an easy 5-0 win over Berkhamsted Town.

Tony Thompson brought Nathan Liburd back into the starting line-up in an otherwise unchanged team, with Andy Shed partnering Nathan Graham up front once more.

The Ducks got off to a perfect start when Shed opened the scoring inside the first five minutes. Good work from Liburd ended with his cross being returned by Swonnel where nodded in unmarked. 1-0 Aylesbury

Despite the early lead, Berkhamsted didn't let their heads go down immediately, and went looking for an immediate response. They forced three corners in succession, Andy Hughes flicking a header over from the third.

But United's early lead had banished any pressure the Ducks might have been feeling, and they went on to control the first half.

Shed could've grabbed a second on the quarter hour when a quick free kick rolled into Mealor caught Berko sleeping, but Shed turned his low cross wide at the near post.

Ben Stevens had a shot blocked out by a defender after another sublime Swonnel pass picked him out in the area, and from the resulting corner Kavanagh headed wide.

Shed was easily having his best game of the season and he threatened again when he was put clean through but Jake Palmer was out quickly to smother at his feet.

Still inside the first quarter of the match and Shed could have completed his hat-trick, this time feeding on a quick counter and Stevens' ball as he shot early but right across the goal.

A rare effort from the visitors followed when Dan Dorans struck a free kick straight at Vincent.

After a decent shot on the turn from Taylor hit the side netting, Aylesbury finally found the security of a second goal. Mealor picked out Shed just inside the area who showed great skill to roll the ball past two defenders and pick his spot. 2-0 Aylesbury

That was it for the first half, and Shed's goals had ensured the home side could look forward to a comfortable second period.

It took just six minutes from the restart before Berkhamsted found themselves another goal down. A poor defensive header fell into the path of Graham, and his deep cross caused panic in the defence and dropped to Kavanagh who prodded home. 3-0 Aylesbury

It was plain to see why Berkhamsted are bottom of the table; the lacklustre Lilywhites simply had nothing to offer in the second half and it was a case of ?how many' for United.

There was an element of cruelty on the visitors for the fourth though, Kevin Mealor mis-cueing a cross which flew straight in over Palmer. 4-0 Aylesbury

Mealor's free kick found Ben Gallant who shot straight at the keeper, and with over half an hour remaining further goals looked inevitable.

Aylesbury took the opportunity to make some changes, forgotten man Craig Henney making a rare appearance for the impressive Shed, whilst Peter Weirich and Jason Castello were also given runouts.

The chances continued to come throughout the remainder of the game, Mealor had a shot blocked before Stevens slotted the rebound wide.

Palmer then made a superb save to deny Mealor's piledriver after a superb flowing move from the Ducks.

Weirich's arrival had seen Mealor pushed into a more advanced position, but he wasn't having the best of times in front of goal, and he hammered an effort over from close range after Gallant's run and ball across.

Castello went for a similar effort moments later, lashing a volley over the bar from less than four-yards out.

Berkhamsted's best effort of the game arrived inside the last five minutes. The hard working Tony Fields cut inside of Liburd and bent a shot towards the far corner that Vincent was forced to punch away.

The fifth and final goal finally came in the last minute from a corner after Gallant's header had been punched out by Palmer, Henney bundling the ball home from the set play. 5-0 Aylesbury

There was still time for Palmer to save well with his legs from Castello's shot, but it mattered not as Aylesbury had their fifth consecutive win, and finally a convincing display against one of the division's back markers.
