Sutton Coldfield Town became the first side to do the double over Aylesbury in 2007/08 as they inflicted the Ducks' heaviest defeat of the season.

The 4-0 scoreline was a little harsh on Aylesbury though, as they matched their high-flying hosts in open play and created a number of chances over the course of the game.

Andy Shed had the first when he shot wide inside the area having been played in by Henney.

But disaster struck when Sutton took the lead after five minutes. A free-kick for a foul against Jason Castello was fired in from the left past a bewildered Jack Sillitoe, though it looked like Leon Doughty had tried to cross the ball. 1-0 Sutton Coldfield

Town had the ball in the net again six minutes later, but Preston based referee Mr Conway adjudged that Sillitoe had been fouled as John Daniels' cross came in.

Another good chance followed for the home side when a deep cross was met by Jackson at the far post, but he headed straight into the arms of Sillitoe.

After the early flurry of home attacking, United managed to get a foothold in the game and start pushing forwards in hope of a response, but despite their chances Chris Gemmell didn't have a save to make in the first half.

The Ducks suffered a further blow when captain Nick Leach had to leave the field with a groin injury and was replaced by youth team prospect Chris Aslett in defence.

The visitors kept plugging away and Kavanagh headed a corner tamely into Gemmell's arms, and Mealor struck a first time shot well wide on his weaker foot from Castello's cross.

Gemmell would have known little about his best save of the half, Henney beating him to a through ball, his shot hitting the keeper square in the face instead of finding the target.

A great flowing move should have produced more for Aylesbury, as the ball moved from Henney to Taylor to Mealor and finally to Graham, who came inside and shot straight at Gemmell.

Graham was frustrated in front of goal once again moments later when he couldn't generate enough power in a header after Mealor had flicked a throw into his path.

Aylesbury's advances had left some gaps for Sutton to exploit on the break, and they did in the last five minutes before the break. Jackson found himself unattended and picked out Craig Thomas who had a shot held by Sillitoe.

One more golden opportunity came United's way before the break, Stevens delivery a dangerous cross which Mealor headed over the bar.

But Sutton had final say and should have made it two when one ball down the heart of Aylesbury's defence left them wide open, Justin Rowe running through with only Sillitoe to beat. The rookie keeper did well to make himself big, and Rowe somehow rolled his shot wide.

Half-time: Sutton Coldfield 1-0 Aylesbury

United's comeback hopes were quickly dented by Sutton as they scored an early second goal. Some woeful marking allowed Ed Booth to head in a cross from close range unattended. 2-0 Sutton Coldfield

Despite the setback, Aylesbury kept striving to get themselves back into the game and Shed flicked a header goalwards which was dived on by Gemmell.

Graham came forward and cut inside but had to hit his shot early under pressure, and the shot subsequently went wide.

Sutton's top-scorer Rowe fancied getting himself on the scoresheet, and he had an effort easily held by Sillitoe. Then on 65 minutes Aylesbury's defence went walkabout again allowing him to run through and bring a good save from Sillitoe this time.

Ten minutes from time Sutton enforced their lead and the game was well and truly out of reach, Craig Owen managing to squeeze home a low shot from the edge of the area. 3-0 Sutton Coldfield

Bizarrely, at 3-0 down Aylesbury had their best shots on goal and Gemmell made some truly outstanding saves in the final minutes.

First Ben Stevens curled a superb free-kick which was only matched by the superb flying save to tip it wide. The resulting corner was half cleared to Shed, and his shot was once again saved.

Gemmell was at it again in the last minute, this time denying Liburd's driven effort in spectacular style.

And to add insult to injury a flattering fourth followed in stoppage time when Thomas's cross-cum-shot caught out United's defence and trickled in off the post. 4-0 Sutton Coldfield

Sam Swonnell had a shot cleared by one of the solid home defenders to round off the game, but it would've felt like a long journey home for Aylesbury's players after such a harsh scoreline.
