Aylesbury 1 Banstead 1

Friday 31 October 2003 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments | Used tags: , ,

The Ducks got themselves out of jail with a last minute Danny Gray equaliser in this FA Trophy tie that they should comfortably have won, given the status of their opposition.

Banstead, from Division 1 South, were a limited side, but Aylesbury huffed and puffed, suffering from the lack of a recognised striker on the pitch. Banstead were not playing well, it was unfortunately just a poor performance from the Ducks.

The visitors took a shock lead after 71 minutes after some slack defending let in Lee Cormack to score. It looked like the game would end 0-1 as Aylesbury struggled to create any chances, until the 89th minute when Danny Gray crashed home his first goal for the club in two years.

The match will now require a replay, to be played on Tuesday night at Banstead Athletic. A supporters coach may be organised - more details to follow.

Aylesbury Back On Trophy Trail

Thursday 30 October 2003 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | One comment | Used tags: ,

The Ducks are back in the hunt for FA Trophy glory this Saturday, as they look to emulate last year's magical run to the semi-finals.

Saturday sees Aylesbury take on Banstead Athletic in the first round. The Division One South club currently lie 16th in the table, and the home side will go into the match as firm favourites. However, there is no room for complacency, and the Ducks will have to be on top of their game.

As if the chance of Cup glory isn't incentive enough, the prize money in this seasons FA Trophy competition has been increased, with the winners of the first round collecting a cheque for £1,800.

Look out for the draw for the second round on Monday.

Aylesbury Res 2 Wingate & Finchley Res 0

Friday 24 October 2003 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, Reserves | Two comments | Used tags: , , ,

In a game that Aylesbury would have been unhappy not to have won, it took a late goal from Myron Ramsey to secure the points, as Wingate tested the Aylesbury defence in the closing stages.

Lews Pritchard had given the home side the advantage early on, and Aylesbury appeared to be controlling the game. However, they couldn't add to their lead and the visitors gained momentum.

A number of chances came and went for both sides, before Ramsey's excellent solo effort finished the game, and gave the Ducks three points.

Aylesbury 1 Chelsea XI 2

Thursday 23 October 2003 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment | Used tags: , , ,

The Chelsea XI narrowly beat Aylesbury United at Buckingham Road yesterday evening in a friendly match. Kevin Wilson gave a run-out to his latest new boy, Steve Mbara, and there were chances for several others to impress.

The Chelsea team was mainly taken from youth team players, although Dutch international Winston Bogarde was on display, as well as Joe Keenan, who has first team experience with the Premiership side.

Both Chelsea's goals came from set pieces, one a penalty, and one a corner. Greg Williams hit Aylesbury's goal with a screamer of an effort.

Harrow 0 Aylesbury 2

Friday 17 October 2003 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | No comments | Used tags: , , , , ,

Aylesbury United won their first away match of the season, with a two-nil victory over fellow strugglers Harrow Borough. This was Kevin Wilson's first win since taking control, and although the performance wasn't great, it was the result that mattered today.

Greg Williams scored the Ducks' first, after Harrow keeper Keita Karamoko got himself mixed up. Chris Bangura added a very late second, as Aylesbury once more capatalised on some poor goalkeepering by Karamoko.

Another positive was the first appearance for Gareth Risbridger since February, as he came on to play the latter part of the game.

Aylesbury Reserves 3 Thame Reserves 1

Thursday 16 October 2003 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, Reserves | One comment | Used tags: , , , ,

Aylesbury Reserves saw off the challenge of Thame United with a 3-1 win, in a match they dominated throughout. However, the still had to recover from the shock of going into half-time facing a one-goal deficit.

The Ducks should have made their advantage count in the first half, and could have been five up with better finishing. But it was Thame who seized the advantage and scored.

The second half was much improved from Aylesbury, and Ryan Wiffin scored two goals, and Daniel Mead scored a trademark free-kick to seal the three points.

Aylesbury 1 Hendon 1

Monday 06 October 2003 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Seven comments | Used tags: , , ,

A much improved Aylesbury side battled hard for 90 minutes, and won Kevin Wilson his first point since he joined the Ducks. Although familiar in personnel, the team was barely recognisable from that which flopped at Braintree.

Aylesbury took the lead when Chris Bangura poked home a scrappy goal, but were pegged back when Dave Hunt equalised after half an hour. In the second half, both teams plugged away, but no further goals were forthcoming - and a point was gratefully received by the Aylesbury faithful.

Aylesbury Get Conference Go Ahead

Monday 06 October 2003 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News | One comment |

Following a grading visit early last month, it has been announced that the club will be invited to join the proposed Conference South Division for season 2004/05, subject to league position.

It was also stated that the club is to be complimented on the standard of ground and the facilities.

So with the all clear given, we must now secure our top-13 finish, and things will be looking good for Conference South next season.

Canvey 4 Aylesbury 0

Friday 03 October 2003 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment | Used tags: , ,

The Ducks went down to a not entirely unexpected defeat at Canvey Island, but can be encouraged with their performance, as the result flattered the hosts. Aylesbury had defended stoutly at times, but with the scoreline at 0-1 and the match entering the final fifteen minutes, Canvey found another gear and scored three in quick succession.

Kevin Wilson watched the match from the stand in the first half, but made his way to the dugout for the second, and the team stepped up a level after a rather dominant first half by the home side.

The new manager will have plenty to think about over the coming days, and today was more about exisiting players demonstrating that they are worth a place in the team. Canvey are a very good side, and will be champions come May, barring a dramatic turnaround in the clubs fortunes.

It is with sadness that we have to announce that former Aylesbury goalkeeper Johnny Blakeman died on Wednesday, following a recent illness. Blakeman is a club legend, having played 303 matches for the club in a fourteen year spell. Only Peter Hutter and Cliff Hercules topped this number of appearances.

Discussions for a lasting tribute are currently underway.

Two Players Sign

Thursday 02 October 2003 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments | Used tags: , ,

Paul Covington has joined the club from Bedford Town. Paul is an experienced centre-back, who was Bedford's top scorer when they played in Division 2, during which time he was a centre-forward. Welcome to the club Paul.

Also joining (or more appropriately, rejoining!) is Alex Stanley. The young full-back became a firm favourite during a spell at the club last season, but left to seek a professional career. Sadly, things didn't work out, but we're delighted that Alex has returned to the club.
