Games Re-Arranged

Wednesday 30 November 2005 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Four comments |

After Salisbury City progressed in the FA Trophy last Saturday, United have a gap in their fixture schedule.

If Halesowen Town win their FA Trophy replay on Tuesday night they will also progress, and leave Tiverton Town with a similar blank Saturday.

Thus it has been agreed that Tiverton Town will move back their trip to Buckingham Road to the 17th December if happens.

Meanwhile Aylesbury's home match against Salisbury City which would have been played in December, will now take place on 7th February.

Salisbury City dumped Aylesbury out of the newly renamed Errea Cup with a 3-0 win at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium.

In truth the home side were troubled little, as Robbie Matthews scored twice and Adam Heath also netted, in what proved to be United's biggest defeat of the season.

Aylesbury 1 Mangotsfield United 1

Saturday 26 November 2005 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Five comments |

An equaliser late in the game from Mangotsfield's David Seal denied Aylesbury all three points at Buckingham Road this afternoon.

Paul Edgeworth's strike after twelve minutes had given the Ducks the lead, and they looked comfortable after that point but were unable to find a killer second goal.

Instead Mangotsfield grabbed an equaliser to level the match, and could have snatched an underserved winner when Luke Prince rattled the crossbar at the death, but it finished one each.

Aylesbury 1 Cirencester Town 0

Tuesday 22 November 2005 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

Aylesbury recorded successive home victories with a hard-fought but deserved 1-0 win over Cirencester Town.

Once again it was youngster Aston Goss who grabbed the headlines, with a spectacular late goal securing the three points against the negative Centurians.

The game was an uninspiring affair with United lacking inspiration going forwards and Cirencester happy to soak up pressure.

Things were made even harder when Gavin Jaggard was somewhat harshly dismissed for a second bookable offence, and the game had looked set to end a stalemate until Goss popped up to net his first for the club.

Bath Match Abandoned

Saturday 19 November 2005 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | One comment |

This afternoon's match at Bath City was abandoned after 79 minutes due to fog, with the score at 0-0.

The decision by the referee was rough justice on the Ducks who had turned in one of their best displays of the season, fighting for every ball and posing a genuine threat at times.

United had made a bad start to the day, with the team bus arriving at the ground late having been stuck in traffic, but it had no affect on their performance.

Roni Joe had a good chance to open the scoring, and Bath themselves had a good opportunity cleared off the line by the superb Rob Gould. Rashid made a great save on his line, before Jaggard should've netted before the interval when one-on-one.

With the fog worsening after the break play was becoming increasingly broken up and the referee eventually decided enough was enough.

A replay will now have to be arranged, meaning Aylesbury will have to do it all again in a midweek clash.

Aylesbury 1 Cheshunt 0

Tuesday 15 November 2005 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Three comments |

Aylesbury posted their first three points in the League since August with a deserved 1-0 home win against Cheshunt this evening.

Scott McCafferty broke the deadlock just past the hour mark, after United had controlled much of the game but were unable to turn their pressure into chances.

The visitors had chances of their own, but some wayward finishing ensured Aylesbury secured a clean sheet and the win that lifts them to 15th in the table.

Education At The Stadium

Tuesday 15 November 2005 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

The plans for the future of The Club and The Stadium continue to develop.

In addition to becoming a Community Football Centre, an important part of the future at the Club will be Education.

The Club?s Scholarship Scheme, central to the five year Junior Development Plan, is to run from next September in conjunction with the Mandeville Sports College. All activities will be held at the stadium with club coaches providing three days of coaching and coach education (Level 1 FA Certificate) and Mandeville School responsible for two days of education (BTEC National Diploma in Sports Studies ? or similar)

An exciting new community development is for the Club premises to act as a Study Support Centre for a ?Playing For Success? scheme. This will initially open four hours per evening from 15.30 to enable Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils to receive concentrated teaching aimed at increasing literacy, numeracy and ICT standards based upon a theme of football. All schools in the area will be able to participate (at no cost) supplying 15 students at a time for two hours of lessons. Students attend once per week for ten weeks.

The Scheme is a partnership between the Club and Bucks CC and is funded with the Department for Education and Skills and Bucks CC. An application for a capital grant to help pay for the classroom conversion and for the 16 computers and other teaching aids will be made to the Football Foundation. Volunteer mini-coach drivers will be required to make this scheme work and further help will be sought from sponsors in our community.

It is anticipated that the scheme will expand, in due course, to accommodate more students but also to act as an extended school centre and as an Adult Learning Centre. One scheme already on the blocks is a ?Dads and Lads? programme where Dads come whilst their sons are at lessons to participate in a Sports Coaching Course.

In due course Daytime courses will also be available to schools based upon ?Learning Through Football? studies and ?More Than Just A Game!? These courses also increase base literacy and numeracy and in this case schools would pay for these on a ?per head? basis.

In addition to school education, the new centre will major on providing top class Coach Education courses. The aim is to produce more local coaches not only in football but in other sports and to assist local Football and Sports Clubs to increase their standards and achieve National Charter Standards.
