Aylesbury 0 Merthyr Tydfil 2

Tuesday 20 December 2005 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | One comment |

Despite a hard-working performance, Aylesbury's makeshift side were defeated 2-0 at home to Merthyr Tydfil.

Gary Crawshaw, aided by Richard Horner and Owen Clayton, picked a side which saw defender Horner make his playing comeback, whilst there were full senior debuts for Kieron Schmidt and Matt Butler.

A battling performance saw United match their opponents for much of the game, before the Welsh side opened the scoring midway through the second half, before netting a second two minutes before time.

Still, it was a performance to be proud of, particurlarly for the young players, proving that young talent is still in good supply.

Emergency Situation - Club Statement

Tuesday 20 December 2005 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

Following the resignation of Danny Nicholls and Kevin England on Sunday last, a number of First Team players also decided to leave. The resultant shortage in players is exacerbated by injuries. The present cash shortfall arising from Cup exits and an unprecedented drop in gate income over recent weeks, meant that it was only fair to notify the players that whilst we had found enough cash to pay last week?s wages, next week?s could be only on an ?expenses? basis.

The aim is to field a team over the holiday period to then raise some gate income, collect monies owing to the Club and to review the playing budget in the New Year. However, that budget can now only be directly related to monies received via the gate.

Meanwhile, thanks to sterling efforts from Pete Ash and others a squad has been found for tonight?s game against Merthyr Tydfil. Gary Crawshaw will manage the team on a ?one-off? basis. Ex-player and now Chelsea Academy Coach, Richard Horner, has also answered the call and will play tonight. He has also offered to help with training and coaching until a permanent appointment is made.

Bill Carroll has expressed his disappointment at Danny?s decision but fully understands the difficulties he has had to work under especially with the lack of training facilities.

Bill is even more disappointed at the Fans Forum last Thursday. A big effort was made to present a detailed explanation of the business plan for the future and the present financial situation. Only 15 fans attended. Bill is drained by the amount of work that has ensued to bring the plans for an Education and Football Centre and a new Junior Development programme to fruition. Additionally, huge efforts were involved to maintain the playing budget, until very recently, but the combination of dealing with the debts brought forward from last season and failure to match predicted gate income has proven to be ?too much?. Bill has asked that any decisions as to the Club?s operation be deferred for a few days whilst he considers his own future with the Club.

Danny Nicholls Departs

Tuesday 20 December 2005 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

First Team manager Danny Nicholls, along with his assistant Kevin Nicholls and a number of players have all left the club.

Firstly, we would like to thank Danny and Kevin for all their hard work. It's unfortunate that the time of one of the club's most popular recent managers has had to end in this way.

Gary Crawshaw will take charge of first team affairs for Tuesday night's game against Merthyr Tydfil. It is anticipated that a number of Youth Team players will be brought in to fill the departed players' places.

The club will be releasing a full statement, which appears as an addition to tonight's programme, and will be posted here shortly.

Finally, it's now, more than ever, that the club needs support. Get down to the game tonight, and cheer on the team like never before.

Aylesbury 0 Tiverton Town 5

Saturday 17 December 2005 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

It was a bad afternoon for Aylesbury, as they were hammered 5-0 by Tiverton Town at Buckingham Road. It was United's heaviest defeat for nearly two years, that being another 0-5 at Thurrock.

Things were embarassingly easy for the visitors at times, with Aylesbury players minds evidently elsewhere on the day.

Debutant goalkeeper Sam Styles endured a baptism of fire, although things could've been worse had he not been United' man of the match for a number of good saves.

Aylesbury 1 Team Bath 2

Saturday 10 December 2005 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Team Bath remain unbeaten against Aylesbury, after leaving Buckingham Road with a 2-1 win.

The Ducks only sparkled in the closing stages of this match, when they could have snatched a later equaliser after two goals from Bertrand Cozic had put the visitors out in front.

United's cause hadn't been aided by an injury to Jack Rashid which meant Greg Williams had to play in goal for fifty minutes.

Matt Butler pulled one back in stoppage time, and only a great save from Jacob Giles denied John Lawford an equaliser on a massively disappointing afternoon for Aylesbury.

Joyce Quits Thame

Wednesday 07 December 2005 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | One comment |

Aylesbury's tenants Thame United have been dealt a blow after manager, former Ducks player, Tony Joyce resigned.

The season so far has been one of turmoil for the Oxfordshire club, who were beaten 5-0 by Aylesbury in the FA Trophy earlier this season.

They were evicted from their Windmill Road stadium just before the campaign began, only able to kick-off thanks to the groundshare offer from Aylesbury.

Joyce quit his post after Thame's 3-1 defeat to fellow strugglers Stourport Swifts at the weekend, which left the club rooted to the foot of Division One West.

He spent four years at the club, and had become player/manager following the departure of Mark West in the Summer.

A left-back Joyce made 14 appearances in Green and White in two spells, the first back in 1992. He has also played for QPR, Aldershot, Woking, Stevenage Borough and Boreham Wood.

Ducks Will Face Tiverton on 17th

Wednesday 07 December 2005 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | No comments |

Aylesbury United's match against Tiverton Town has now been moved back to the 17th December, with a 3pm kick-off.

Both sides were left with a free Saturday after Salisbury City and Halesowen Town progressed in the FA Trophy leaving Aylesbury and Tiverton without opponents.

Merthyr Tydfil Game 20th December

Monday 05 December 2005 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

The match against Merthyr Tydfil on 20th December carries special significance as Aylesbury United will be allowing the Bucks Herald to hold an event to raise money for Stoke Mandeville Hospital's Special Baby Care Unit.

The evening will consist of a draw where for only ?1 a person can win a car.

The car in question is a Ford Fiesta which has been modified based on the Sky television programme 'Pimp My Ride'

It has undergone a complete overhaul which includes a full respray in electric blue, new wheels and tyres, stainless steel exhaust, professionally fitted audio system, Blue tooth phone system and DVD player, parking sensors along with speed camera warning alarm.

The basis of the night?s promotion will be that Aylesbury United will donate money to The Special Baby Unit based on the crowd figure as follows:

-For every paying spectator from 200 to 499 Aylesbury United will donate ?1 per paying spectator to the S.B.C.U.
-If the attendance exceeds 500 then Aylesbury United will donate ?2 per paying spectator.
-Should the crowd exceed 1000 then for every adult at ?8 Aylesbury United will donate ?3 and for every concession at ?4 they will donate ?2.

So the bigger the crowd to support the game on the 20th December then the bigger the donation to Stoke Mandeville Hospital and someone could drive away in a Sporty looking Ford Fiesta adorned with gadgets galore.

Ladies Team Round Up

Monday 05 December 2005 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Both Aylesbury United Ladies Teams were in action at the weekend, with varying degrees of success.

The Senior team lost 4-2 at Holmer Green in the Subsidiary Cup. Two late goals from Kerry Naisbitt weren't enough to help their cause.

On Saturday meanwhile the under-16s continued their 100% start in the League with a 5-0 demolition job at Waterhall Stars.

Goals from Nicola Hunt (2), Dani Abley, Lucy Ilic and Kayleigh Johnston sent the girls 5 points clear at the top of the table. The victorious team are pictured below.

Gloucester City 1 Aylesbury 1

Saturday 03 December 2005 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

John Lawford's second half goal on his return to the club wasn't enough for Aylesbury, as they allowed Gloucester City to level this afternoon's game.

The match was a hard fought affair, played on a soggy pitch after much rain in the West, but United still managed to play some good football at times.

That said, the game could have gone either way, with both goalkeepers performing heroics, before Lawford opened the scoring only to see the home side level ten minutes later, and it ended one each.

Gloucester Match On

Saturday 03 December 2005 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

Following a morning pitch inspection at Gloucester's Meadow Park ground, it has been announced that today's match will definitely be going ahead.

Both sides are likely to be featuring new players, with Aylesbury having signed John Lawford for his second spell at the club, and Gloucester signing Alex Sykes on-loan from Bath City.

Rain May Affect Gloucester Trip

Friday 02 December 2005 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

A pitch inspection has been called at 10.30am tomorrow ahead of United's game at Gloucester City.

With the Meadow Park pitch reportedly unplayable in current conditions, there will have to be an upturn in condtions if the game is to take place.

As soon as comfirmation of the referees decision is made it will be posted here.
