Aylesbury United News

Chasetown 0 Aylesbury 1

Saturday 31 March 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesbury completed an impressive league double over 3rd placed Chasetown with a well deserved win in the Midlands.

Richard Pringle's 27th minute overhead kick proved to be the decisive goal, with he and the vibrant returning Andy Shed causing the hosts problems throughout the game.

Only one side looked capable of playing football on the day, Chasetown often resorting to 'hit and hope' football to the frustration of their home support, whilst Aylesbury's passing on the deck carved out a number of opportunities.

Ducks Captain Leaves Club

Friday 30 March 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Three comments |

Aylesbury United captain Enzo Silvestri has left the club in a deadline day move back to Leighton Town.

On his move, Silvestri said he enjoyed under manager Jon Franklin and assistant Tony Thompson, but claimed a lack of respect and unprofessional approach from his team mates meant he wasn't enjoying his football.

Additionally, Silvestri has personal issues involving his young family and was finding the travelling to Chesham an increasing burden.

We obviously wish Enzo well for the future, and thank him for his considerable efforts in Green & White, not just this season but during the memorable 2001/02 promotion campaign.

Commenting on his captain's decision, Jon Franklin said "I do not entirely agree with Enzo reasons especially the players professionalism. However we had seen a dip in Enzo's form over the last month and following lengthy calls between the two of us this week it was agreed on Friday I would waive all paperwork so the transfer could go ahead, as Leighton would not have achieved the transfer ahead of the deadline had I have not done so.

I am disappointed though, as with only seven games and four weeks to go I think Enzo could have seen the season through with us."

Meanwhile, in some more positive news, skilful attacker Andy Shed has re-signed for the club until the end of the season.

Youth Team In Disappointing Defeat

Thursday 29 March 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Three comments |

The Youth Team lost 2-0 at home to Uxbridge on Monday night in the Allied Counties League Central Division.

The performance, against a side struggling in the league, was extremely disappointing - with United going behind after 20 minutes, and then conceding to a controversial penalty late on.

Rothwell Town 3 Aylesbury 0

Saturday 24 March 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesbury were comprehensively beaten 3-0 at Rothwell Town, but the scoreline doesn't tell half the story of the game at Cecil Street.

The Ducks dominated the opening first half hour, and should have been well ahead with a number of clear cut chances having been created.

Instead, they left the pitch at half-time two goals down and it was easy to see who were the form side - Rothwell converting their only two meaningful chances in the half, the second by former United striker Darren Lynch.

Another goal quickly after the interval wrapped up the points for the Bones, and United were sent home ruing a hatful of missed chances, as well as two efforts which struck the woodwork and one good save by goalkeeper Tom Smith.

Aylesbury's display was far improved from the stale showing against Rushall the previous week deserved at least a point from the game, but not taking chances is something that has cost the Ducks all season.

Ex-Ducks In Line To Face Aylesbury

Friday 23 March 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Five comments |

Aylesbury United travel to Rothwell Town on Saturday, a team who have recently acquired two former United players.

Striker Darren Lynch has scored seven goals already since signing from Cambridge City, including a hat-trick in Rothwell's recent 5-0 demolition of Stourport Swifts.

Lynch joined the Ducks from Bedford Town in 2003 for a rumoured £6,000 fee and scored 6 goals in 11 games, before his mentor Kevin Wilson took him to his new club Kettering Town.

Also now plying his trade at Rothwell is winger Neil Lazarus, who its fair to say never found his best form in a green & white shirt.

The match will be another tough one for Aylesbury with Rothwell currently on a five-match unbeaten run, having lost just once in eleven games, as they mount a late playoff charge.

The Ducks meanwhile will be looking to finally break their sequence of draws, and push back into playoff contention themselves.

Busy Weekend For Ladies

Monday 19 March 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Three comments |

All three Ladies sides were in action at the weekend, with two wins and a defeat.

The Ladies under-16s emulated their senior counterparts and made progress in the OGL Cup competition beating Chinnor 4-0 away on Saturday.

Nicola Hunt made her first appearance for the junior side and scored twice in a minute in the first half, before goals from Dani Abley and Lynn Pacey wrapped things up in the second. United now face league leaders Thame in the semi-final next month.

The ladies first team also continued their good spell with a 4-1 win over bottom side Mansfield Road yesterday. Nicola Hunt completed a busy weekend with two more goals, while Gemma Butterfield and Kerry Naisbitt completed the scoring.

Finally, United's reserves faced a tricky match at home to a very good Oxford United Development team and despite continuing their improved form they finally went down 6-0.

Aylesbury 1 Rushall Olympic 1

Saturday 17 March 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesbury posted a 1-1 draw for the third game running at home to Rushall Olympic in their Southern League match.

In a poor game the Ducks struggled to break their defensive minded opponents down, and they fell behind when some disastrous defending allowed Dean Perrow to run through and slot home minutes before the break.

Aylesbury regrouped though, and the ball rarely left Rushall's half in the second period, the equaliser eventually scrambled home by substitute Kevin Mealor.

Rushall had a man sent off for two stupid yellow cards prior to that, and rarely posed a threat, but United lacked the conviction going forward to claim all three points.

Ducks Entertain Rushall Olympic

Friday 16 March 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesbury United take on Rushall Olympic at the Meadow, Chesham, tomorrow afternoon in the Southern League Division One Midlands.

United are looking to build on some solid recent form which has seen them unbeaten in five games, although had some of those draws been turned into wins then they would be firmly amongst the playoff hopefulls as opposed to knocking on the door.

Rushall meanwhile have been faring well under new manager Paul Holleran, and before Tuesday's 3-1 defeat at Stourbridge had won four games in a row to seemingly put themselves safe from relegation.

The game kicks off at 3pm.

Youth Team Draw at Reading

Aylesbury United's Youth Team battled back from 3-1 down to draw at Reading Town On Wednesday night.

It was the Ducks who took the lead through Tom Burton after just ten minutes, but they trailed 3-1 by the interval after good play by the hosts saw them score three goals.

But United battled back into the game and goals from Lewis Creser and Chris Aslett ensured they returned with a point.

A full report from the game is available.

Stourbridge 1-1 Aylesbury

Saturday 10 March 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

With a third successive draw, Aylesbury continued their unbeaten league run by matching Stourbridge 1-1 at the War Memorial Athletic Ground.

Aylesbury created a number of chances in the first half, yet it was their playoff rivals who held the lead at the interval after a long throw was headed in by Mark Bellingham.

United turned on the heat in the second half, and after earlier being denied by a fine save, Carl Kavanagh scored the equaliser.

Both sides had chances to go on and claim all three points, but a draw was a true reflection of an even and entertaining match.
