Aylesbury United News

Aylesbury 1 Brackley Town 0

Saturday 28 April 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

There was heartache for the Ducks this afternoon, as despite beating Champions Brackley Town 1-0, Evesham's late win over Leighton was enough to ensure United just miss out on the playoffs.

The match as a spectacle failed to live up to expectations, not helped by the heated conditions, but United made the better openings and looked particularly dangerous from set plays.

But Aylesbury's 5th straight win was brought about by Matt Butler of all people, who scrambled home a loose ball from a corner in the second half.

At full time the majority of the crowd waited desperately from the final score from Evesham's game, knowing that fellow contenders Willenhall had won and Stourbridge had lost, but when it came it was bad news and disappointment all round.

But the players shouldn't be too downhearted after a fantastic finale to the season, when their playoff aspirations really should have been ended long ago.

Cinderford Town 0 Aylesbury 2

Thursday 26 April 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Five comments |

An incredible fourth straight win from Aylesbury means that playoff places will be decided on the final day of the season.

The Ducks made fairly light work of Cinderford, particularly in the first half and Daniel Mead scored his second free kick in three days to open the scores after just eleven minutes.

Richard Pringle struck before the break with a powerful header from a corner kick, to give his side a commanding lead.

The home side, as expected, came out more determined for the second period and hit the woodwork twice, although Vincent had little to do in goal.

Another three points means that everything hinges on what should be a dramatic Saturday, as the Ducks face Champions Brackley Town at The Meadow...Don't miss it!

Full report from tonight's game will be online tomorrow.

Aylesbury 2 Woodford United 0

Monday 23 April 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | No comments |

Aylesbury came out on top in the second of their four 'make or break' games this evening, 2-0 winners over fellow playoff hopefuls Woodford United.

Patience was the key to breaking down a sterile visiting team, who never forced rookie keeper Jack Sillitoe, drafted in from the youth team to replace the injured Tom Vincent, into serious action.

Daniel Mead opened the scoring from a free-kick midway through the second half, before Ben Stevens added a second to secure the three points.

The result means the Ducks travel to Cinderford on Thursday still with everything to play for.

Bedworth 1 Aylesbury United 3

Saturday 21 April 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | No comments |

Aylesbury had to dig deep to secure another crucial 3 points at Bedworth United this afternoon.

The Ducks had to do things the hard way when they went into half-time a goal down, but an eventual equaliser from Leon Gutzmore brought Aylesbury to life after a timid start to the second half.

Carl Kavanagh grabbed the second from a free-kick, before Richard Pringle rounded things off with an outrageously good goal - a dipping volley from 25-yards.

Ladies Bring Home Silverware

Sunday 15 April 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesbury United Ladies brought home the Thames Valley League Plate this afternoon in an epic drama-filled win over Wolverton Wasps that lasted nearly 3-hours at Beaconsfield SYCOB.

In the blistering heat the sides played out an entertaining match, and United took the lead early on through Nicola Hunt.

Wolverton hit back though and thanks to two fluky goals - the first a speculative free kick which sailed high over goalkeeper Georgia Smith, the second a mis-hit cross - pulled the game round to 2-1.

Hunt levelled before the break, and no further scoring after that meant extra time ensued. The Ducks suffered early heart-break in conceding an early penalty, but showed great character in levelling again through Hannah Franklin.

A nasty ankle injury sustained by United's player of the match Gemma Franklin late on held the game up for half an hour whilst an ambulance arrived, before penalties - which a joyous Aylesbury went on to win 3-2 and seal the Trophy.

A full report and pictures of all the action to follow.

Aylesbury 2 Bromsgrove Rovers 1

Saturday 14 April 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

Aylesbury kept up their good recent form with a battling 2-1 win over 2nd placed Bromsgrove Rovers.

In the literal heat of the battle the Ducks made their set pieces count, Richard Pringle heading a first half free kick and Andy Shed scoring from a corner after the break.

Bromsgrove pulled one back in between, Carl Kavanagh unfortunate to turn in Clarke's low shot.

Despite an injury to Tom Vincent meaning Smyth played the final twenty minutes in goal, Bromsgrove never tested the stand-in stopper, although they did waste a couple of good late chances, and the Ducks held on for the win.

Dunstable Town 0 Aylesbury 0

Monday 09 April 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesbury were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw at Dunstable Town in a match they really should have won.

The Ducks did just about everything apart from score, with the defence rock solid the home side were restricted to just three efforts all afternoon.

But at the other end United just didn't get the rub of the green. Numerous shots came in as chance after chance were carved out, one coming back off the bar in the first half, and several players going close after the break as the Ducks' domination continued.

As it was both sides had to settle for a point, which will please Dunstable manager Darren Feighery more - after he had been dismissed from the dugout for a verbal tirade on the referee midway through the first half.

Meanwhile congratulations to Brackley Town, who secured the Division One Midlands Championship with a 3-2 win over Woodford United this afternoon.

Aylesbury 1 Barton Rovers 0

Saturday 07 April 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | One comment |

Aylesbury battled to a narrow 1-0 win over Barton Rovers at The Meadow this afternoon.

The visitors shaded an even first half, with their pacey counter-attacking causing problems in the United defence.

Yet it was the Ducks who went in ahead thanks to Andy Shed's excellent lob just before the interval.

Barton's threat fizzled out after the break, despite the introduction of ex-Duck Meshach Cole as a third striker, and Aylesbury claimed another three points.

Youth Team Up To 2nd

Aylesbury U18 moved up to second in Allied Counties Central Division with a comfortable 2-0 win at Marlow on Wednesday night.

DJ Jones gave the Ducks a first half lead with a cool finish, before an own goal on the hour mark wrapped up the win on a night where goalkeeper Lee Biswell was rarely tested.

Alan 'Nobby' Clarke

It is with great sadness to report the sudden death of Alan Clarke, known to many at the Club as 'Nobby'. Alan died in Milton Keynes Hospital on the 4th April.

Alan was a loyal supporter of the Ducks for a large part of his life, watching most home matches and until more recently, many of the away games. For many years he was a steward and also worked on the gate at Buckingham Road.

Alan will be greatly missed by his many friends at the Club.
