Your Support Please

Beachcroft LLP is a law firm that has supported Chesham United through being their Youth Team's shirt sponsor. Caroline Cherry is one of their top staff and has asked them to see if they can help her raise some cash for a worthwhile charity, which is based in her home town … Aylesbury! She says:

"Last year I did the Bristol Half Marathon for Cancer Research UK and raised just over £1,000. This year I have tripled my challenge.....

"I plan to run 3 races, in 3 months, to raise £3,000. My challenge starts on 12 August in Australia, when I will take to the streets of Sydney and run from the City to Bondi beach (approximately 14km) in the annual City2Surf fun run.

"On Sunday 9 September I will then return to the streets of Bristol and take part in this years Half Marathon, with the aim of knocking at least 5 minutes off last year's time.

"My final challenge will be my first Cardiff Half Marathon on 14 October 2007 where I am hoping to push myself to the limit and complete the course in under 1hr 45 mins.

"And why am I doing this? Well, my chosen charity is the Lymphoma Association, which is a charity that is very close to my family's heart. They are based in Aylesbury, a town very close to where I grew up, and provide support and care to those suffering from Lymphatic cancer.

"So, if anyone would like to sponsor me for my madness, then it would be much appreciated. I will take the time to create some sponsorship forms in the next few weeks, but for the time being I have a page set up at the following link:

http://www.justgiving.com/cherryschallenge

"Many thanks to you all… "

Chesham United have put a link on their web site and we are happy to help out too in support of both an Aylesbury girl supporting a locally based charity and in recognition of the help that we've received from our hosts. And the money's going nowhere near the law firm but to a truly worthwhile cause!

Thank you for your support

Cook In At The Cottage

Thursday 19 July 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Former Aylesbury United youngster Lee Cook has today signed for Premiership side Fulham, for an undisclosed fee rumoured to be in the region of £2.5m.

Having come through United's Youth ranks 'Cookie' broke into the first team in 1999 and after a string of impressive performances earned himself a trial with Watford.

A permanent transfer followed, from where he joined his boyhood club Queen's Park Rangers in the summer of 2004.

His excellent form on the wing earned him Young Player of the Year award in his first season at QPR, followed by both the Supporters' Player and Players' Player of the Year awards.

Transfer rumours have surrounded the winger since last summer, and QPR chairman Gianni Paladini had slapped a £10m asking price on Cook's head in January, when Fulham first expressed an interest.

Slimbridge Resign From League

Wednesday 11 July 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Sport Italia Hellenic League Premier Division champions Slimbridge have resigned from the British Gas Business Southern League Division One Midlands – before kicking a ball in it.

In a statement released by the club, secretary David Phillips stated: "It is with the utmost regret that that Slimbridge AFC announce their resignation from the BGB Business Football League Division One Midlands with immediate effect.

The decision was reached at a club committee meeting on Monday evening. In his statement the club chairman John Mack, cited a serious lack of loyalty, integrity and commitment from some members of the club and he truly felt let down by that.

This unfolding situation has cast severe doubts as to the ability of the club to compete seriously at Step 4 level. It is the reason behind the decision to withdraw.

It was confirmed that the club will continue its membership of the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League.

The club apologises to all supporters for the huge disappointment they must be feeling. For all those who have already applied for a season ticket, appropriate refunds will be made within the next seven days.

All the planned pre-season games will be cancelled.

John Mack has stated that he will remain as chairman for the foreseeable future but, will unfortunately, lose the services of Dave Phillips as secretary within the next few days.

Phillips himself adds that he fully supports the stance taken by Mack. "It is incredible how the euphoria of the club`s most successful season in their 105-year history can turn into this nightmare in two months.

"The club must now re-group and move forward. I have had a wonderful five years at the club but now I feel that it is the right time to step aside. I wish Slimbridge AFC all the best for the future."

The resignation now leaves Aylesbury's league short of a team, with 21 remaining competitors and it is though unlikely that a replacement will be drafted in at this late stage.

Bring The Ducks Home

Tuesday 10 July 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Eight comments |

As Aylesbury United Football Club approach their 110th season, the Club have launched a campaign to 'Bring The Ducks Home' and highlight their current homeless plight.

Bring The Ducks Home

The Ducks currently play their 'home' games at Chesham United's ground, but need to return to Aylesbury as soon as possible to be financially viable and easily accessible to its current fans and for a future generation of supporters.

The Club also needs a base to support its Youth development, Reserves and Ladies section.

The intention is to obtain as much exposure as possible through the many media outlets to place pressure on the local authorities to help find a new home for the Ducks.

Over the next few weeks T-Shirts will be available to purchase from the Club, bearing the campaign slogan.

The Club will also be teaming up with their new shirt sponsors, New Era Cap Co, to have various sports personalities, photographed wearing the new shirt. This will hopefully help provide national recognition of our campaign.

On the eve of the British Grand Prix the Club helped organise a football match between the Red Bull racing team and their Italian team Toro Rosso. Pictured wearing (last season's) AUFC shirt is driver Vitantonio Liuzzi, also pictured driver Scott Speed and the Red Bull PR girls. Mark Webber (pictured below with AUFC Commercial Director Richard Shepherd) was also present at the game played by pit crews and technicians.
