Aylesbury Get FA Cup Campaign Underway

Friday 31 August 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | One comment |

Aylesbury United kick off in the FA Cup tomorrow with the visit of Newport Isle of Wight in the Preliminary Round.

The two sides meet for the first time since 1999, as the Ducks look to do better in the competition than last season when they were knocked out of the Cup by Wroxham at the same stage.

Aylesbury famously beat Newport 3-2 in a rain drenched 1st Round tie back in 1994 as the Ducks marched to a 3rd Round tie with QPR, but these days aspirations are a little lower.

A 1st Round Qualifying encounter at Banbury United awaits the winner, along with a cheque for a useful sum of £1000 prize money.

The match kicks off at 3pm.

Youth Team Round-Up

Tuesday 28 August 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

Aylesbury Youth completed a busy few days as they recorded wins over Flackwell Heath and Henley Town in pre season friendlies.

Last Monday the Ducks beat Flackwell 3-2 at RAF Halton. Leading convincingly until the final minute through a Louis Cordice brace and a DJ Jones strike, the result was never in doubt.

On Wednesday they travelled to Henley still without a full strength side and came away with a comprehensive 6-1 victory.

Aylesbury opened the scoring just 3 minutes in through Arron Rogers and never looked troubled by a inexperienced home side. Troy Bailey-Goss added a second before half time and then scored number 3 and 4 to complete a hat-trick 5 minutes into the second half.

Lewis Creser added a fifth before Matt Logan tapped in for number 6. Henley scored a consolation with 15 minutes to go.

The Youth complete their pre season games on Wednesday when they travel to Colney Heath Kick off 7.45pm.

Cinderford Town 0 Aylesbury 1

Monday 27 August 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

Nathan Graham's last minute goal was the knockout blow Aylesbury needed to seal three points at Cinderford Town this afternoon.

The professional boxer, on just his 2nd appearance for the Ducks, latched onto Craig Henney's low cross in the 90th minute to secure back to back wins for the Ducks.

It had been an otherwise frustrating afternoon in front of goal as although they saw plenty of the ball, chances were at a premium for United.

At the other end Cinderford wasted what chances they did get, and as it became difficult to see where a goal was coming from a goalless draw seemed to be on the cards until Graham popped up with the winner.

Full report to follow.

Aylesbury 2-1 Romulus

Saturday 25 August 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesbury posted their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over newly promoted Romulus at the Meadow this afternoon.

The Ducks took the lead after 21 minutes when Carl Kavanagh turned the ball home after a scramble in the area.

The advantage was doubled within ten minutes when goalkeeper Matty Harris made a hash of dealing with a long free kick, carrying the ball over his goal line for an own goal.

Romulus fought back after the break, and they pulled a goal back on 75 minutes when Ashley Robinson rounded off a good move to set up a nervy ending, but United held firm to the relief of their supporters.

Leighton Town 1-1 Aylesbury

Tuesday 21 August 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

An improved Aylesbury recorded their first point of the season at old stomping ground Bell Close, drawing 1-1 with Leighton Town.

Once again the Ducks were slow out of the blocks and were behind to another soft goal, a free header which found the bottom corner, after just 10 minutes.

Things got even worse when midfielder Liam Smyth suffered a nasty looking knee injury, but United regrouped and slowly gained a foothold on the game.

They deservedly equalised on the half hour when debutant striker Dean Wharman and Craig Henney pressurised the Leighton defence into a state of panic, and the latter netted with a deft lob.

Both sides looked for a winner after the break, but the swirling rain made things difficult, and despite a number of goal mouth scrambles in both boxes, the scores remained even and the two sides had to settle for a point.

Sunday 19 August 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

The reserves continued their pre-season build up with a 5-1 friendly win over local ADL side Bierton yesterday.

The teams went in all square, 0-0 at half time, but in the second half Andrew Shoniwg opened the scoring, Ben Mott then made it 2-0, Musa Schmidt added a third, followed by Andrew Shoniwg scoring his second to make it 4-0, and Ben Mott rounding off the scoring, with his second to make it 5-0. Stuart Proctor scored a consolation penalty to leave the score 5-1 at full-time.

The reserves final friendly is at Risborough Rangers, on Thursday evening, Kick Off 6pm.

Aylesbury 1 Sutton Coldfield Town 2

Saturday 18 August 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Twelve comments |

Aylesbury kicked off their season with a home defeat at the hands of Sutton Coldfield Town this afternoon.

The Ducks paid dearly for a slow start which saw them two goals down in 15 minutes, Sutton's pacey counter-attacks making the difference as Justin Rowe and Mykel Beckley netted.

United improved in the closing stages of the first half, and a wonderful run from Liam Smyth ended with the midfielder slotting home to bring the home side back into the game.

The second half was more even, but Aylesbury lacked a cutting edge going forwards, although Chris Gemmill made one fantastic save late on to secure an opening day 3 points for his side.

Full report to follow.

Bracknell Town 3 Aylesbury 2

Sunday 12 August 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesbury lost their first game since March as their pre-season campaign came to a close at Bracknell Town.

In stifling conditions, and on a nasty bobbly pitch the game was in stark contrast to the quality which had been on display at Thatcham Town, and a more direct style was evident from both teams.

On the odd occasion that United did try and play decent football they were a threat, but such moments were shortlived.

Bracknell took the lead on 20 minutes when a cross from the left caught Aylesbury's defence flat-footed and a forward nodded past Jack Sillitoe.

15 minutes later it was two when Ross Taylor crudely fouled his man in the box, and the penalty was easily converted, but Aylesbury struck back two minutes on when Carl Kavanagh rose to head home Liam Smyth's perfect free-kick delivery.

The introduction of Emanuel Adeseko added an extra edge to Aylesbury's attack as they looked for a leveller, but they were caught out on a counter-attack as a fresh substitute outpaced Nick Leach, cut inside and coolly finished past Sillitoe.

The Ducks weren't done though, and Craig Henney continued his scoring streak after being played in by Aston Goss on 75 minutes.

Despite the result it wasn't all doom and gloom for United, but an improved performance will be needed come the start of the real season next week at home to Sutton Coldfield Town.

Thatcham Town 1 Aylesbury 5

Thursday 09 August 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesbury continued their pre-season scoring spree by hitting five at Division One South & West side Thatcham Town this evening.

The home side, who had beaten the Ducks' Midlands Division rivals Woodford United 1-0 on Saturday, had the better of the opening 25 minutes, but were a goal down after 18. Craig Henney latched onto a long-kick from Jack Sillitoe and kept his cool to slot home past the advancing goalkeeper.

The scoreline was doubled before half time when triallist Manny Adeseko made his presence felt at a corner and the ball was scrambled in.

The Ducks stepped up another level after the break, and Adeseko added another with a curling effort before Jamie O'Grady scored the goal of the game, latching onto a superb pass from Henney and finishing with a fine half-volley on 55 minutes.

As both sides made chances Thatcham did net a late consolation, through what appeared to be an own goal as a low cross was turned in, but it was Aylesbury who had the last word when Kevin Mealor followed up to score after Danny Jones stinging shot had been well saved.

With another big win taking United's friendly goal tally to 15 the Ducks conclude their pre-season schedule on Saturday with a visit to another Southern League team Bracknell Town.

Butler Out For Season

Tuesday 07 August 2007 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

Matt Butler will sadly be out for the whole of the season after scan results confirmed a ruptured anteria cruciate ligament.

The injury, similar to that sustained by Michael Owen at last year's World Cup, is certain to rule the midfield star out of Aylesbury's season.

Meanwhile Andy Shed will be kept out of action for 6 weeks with damaged ankle ligaments also sustained during Saturday's game.

We wish both players well in their road to recovery, as Tony Thompson's time in charge of Aylesbury gets off to a bad start.
