Aylesbury United News

Barton Rovers 3-0 Aylesbury

Saturday 29 March 2008 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Barton put a huge dent in Aylesbury's playoff hopes by beating the Ducks 3-0 at Sharpenhoe Road.

An abject second half display from United, who had done a reasonable job before the break, did the damage as they conceded three poor goals.

Going forward Aylesbury struggled to break down their hosts and could barely muster a shot on target all afternoon.

It's definitely not over, but with the Ducks so inconsistent and other teams around them hitting form, it looks a tall order.

Full report now available via the fixtures page.

Reserves Win Again

Monday 24 March 2008 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Six comments |

Aylesbury United Reserves continued their fine recent run of form, coming from a goal down to defeat Eton Wick Reserves by four goals to one.

The match kicked off with a swirling wind, sleet and snow, and Eton Wick adapting to the conditions and having the better of the opening exchanges. Their pressure paid off when a cross from the right eluded the Aylesbury defence and was met by an Eton Wick forward, who volleyed the ball past the helpless Aylesbury keeper Gavin England.

This sparked the Aylesbury team into life and they stepped up a gear, and took control of the game, pressing Eton Wick back into their own half and creating chances for the forwards, Nathan Graham and Stuart "Neal" Proctor.

A fine run by Matt Prince, saw him go past two Eton Wick defenders and ping a low cross into the box, which was turned into his own net by a hapless defender.

Chances came and went with Nathan Graham getting on the end of most of them but unable to hit the target. His partner up front, Stuart Proctor, however was also guilty of missing a couple of good chances, but his perseverance paid off with a brace of goals before the break. Both goals were well taken volleys, the second cannoning in off the upright to add to his impressive tally for the season to date.

The last action of the half saw Carl Kavanagh fire over from close range.

The second half saw Aylesbury continue to dominate, with the forwards continuing to squander chances created by an impressive midfield, which saw Frankie Ross turn in a man of the match performance, pulling the strings in the centre, alongside the industrious Ben Simms.

As the game was entering it's latter stages, Aylesbury were awarded a corner and centre back Justin Gordon arrived late into the box and powered a header into the roof of the net.

Youth Lose at Abingdon

Monday 24 March 2008 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesbury U18's went down to a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Abingdon United on Thursday evening.

The Ducks had to make a number of enforced changes, and although they took a 65th minute lead against the run of play, eventually slumped to defeat.

Substitue Adam Wilkie scored the goal for Aylesbury.

Saturday's home game against Stourbridge has been postponed due to the bad weather.

Reserves Win at Wokingham

Monday 17 March 2008 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesbury United's reserve team travelled to Wokingham & Embrook, and left with all three points.

Bolstered by the inclusion of two first team players Aylesbury took control of the game from the start, playing a high tempo passing game that made the most of the pace they had in the side in the shape of Matt Prince, Aston Goss and Nathan Graham.

Mid-way through the first half, after a fine flowing move down the right man of the match Stuart Proctor forced the Wokingham centre half into an error which he punished with a clinical finish.

Having got their noses in front Aylesbury eased up and coasted to half time, but although Wokingham enjoyed more possession they could not find a way through a solid Aylesbury defence superbly marshalled by skipper Anthony Kew and the rock solid Carl Kavanagh.

Aylesbury started the second half as they did the first, pushing Wokingham back into their own half, with Ben Sims and Frankie Ross completely dominating the midfield.

On seventy minutes a fine run and cross, by Matty Prince, from the right was superbly finished by the livewire Nathan Graham.

Aylesbury had the ball in the Wokingham net for a third time but Ross was adjudged to have been offside, and his strike was ruled out.

With the clock running down, and Aylesbury cruising, a rare Wokingham attack was rewarded with a consolation goal, which the Aylesbury keeper, Jack Sillittoe, who had put in a confident and commanding performance throughout the game, tried valiantly to keep out.

Youth Team Share the Points

Monday 17 March 2008 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesbury U18's pushed league leaders North Leigh all the way before having to settle for a share of the points in their Allied Counties League clash at Amersham Town on Thursday.

In an even first half, neither side created any clear cut chances and it took until the 68th minute when Jason Logan followed up to score the opener.

The league leaders equalised on 74 minutes though and the Ducks had to settle for a point.

The closing stages of the game were marred by a freak injury to Matt Logan, who dislocated his shoulder in innocuous circumstances. The club send their best wishes to Matt for a speedy recovery.

A full report from the game can be found via the Youth Team fixtures page.

Reserves Go Down to League Leaders

Monday 10 March 2008 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

Aylesbury United Reserves lost 2-0 to league leaders Kintbury Rangers Reserves in a game that was effectively over after five minutes when Frankie Ross was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

Even playing virtually all the game with only ten men Aylesbury pushed Kintbury all the way, with a determined display of solid defending, and high work rate in midfield that created chances, which on another day would have yielded goals to go with their herculean effort.

In the end United were undone by two soft goals and an incredibly inept performance by a referee who seemed intent on grabbing the limelight and spoiling a game between two evenly matched sides, with persistent use of his whistle, and inconsistent decisions.

After twenty minutes a speculative cross from the left eluded at least three Aylesbury defenders, and with the United keeper rooted on his line a Kintbury forward stole in and poked the ball into the net.

The score remained one nil until midway through the second half when Kintbury were awarded a free kick twenty five yards from the Aylesbury goal, and while the United goalkeeper was lining up a defensive wall Rangers took the kick which rocketed into the far corner of the net.

Although the result went against them the Aylesbury players can be proud of their performances, especially Justin Gordon, Anthony Kew, and Neil Proctor.

Youth Team in Buckingham Win

Monday 10 March 2008 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | One comment |

A second half strike from Elliott Johnson was enough to gain a valuable 3 points for Aylesbury United in their Allied Counties League clash with near neighbours Buckingham Athletic on Thursday.

Having come off the bench, Johnson netted in the 70th minute to give the Ducks a hard fought victory.

A full report is available via the Youth Team fixtures page.

The U18's are at home again next Thursday 13th March when we entertain North Leigh. In the reverse fixture the ducks won 3-2, Leigh's only defeat so far this season.

Rushall Olympic 0-0 Aylesbury

Saturday 08 March 2008 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesbury played out a 0-0 draw at Rushall Olympic in a match badly affected by adverse weather conditions.

The game was generally controlled by the wind, Rushall the better side in the first half with the wind behind them, Aylesbury having more chances after the break for similar reasons.

But it was a frustrating afternoon as both sides lacked genuine quality in front of goal to net a winner.

The match was a chance for another new signing to make his 'debut' though, playmaker Mark Jones having rejoined for a third spell at the club from Oxford City, and was one of the better performers on the day.

Full report to follow.

Willenhall Player Jailed

Thursday 06 March 2008 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | One comment |

The Willenhall Town player who was arrested in the tunnel, moments before running out to face Aylesbury, has been jailed for three years.

Anthony Boswell, along with his cousing Nathan Jackson, were caught with drugs worth hundreds of pounds after police swoops.

Boswell (also known as Anthony Newton) joined Willenhall from Sport Italia West Midlands (Regional) League side Darlaston Town and was wanted by police after they searched an address linked to him in Wolverhampton in June last year.

He was arrested moments before kick-off to the bemusement of watching Ducks players and admitted posession of heroin with intent to supply.

Youth Team Lose to Carterton

Sunday 02 March 2008 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Two goals in the last eight minutes condemned Aylesbury's Youth Team to defeat at the hands of Carterton on Thursday evening.

Unfortunately a much depleted Aylesbury side lacked a cutting edge up front throughout the game, and were undone when the visitors took an 82nd minute lead.

The Ducks were then undone as they pushed forward looking for an equaliser, hit on the break for Carterton's second.

A full report is available via the Youth Team fixtures page.

There was better news elsewhere for the Reserve Team yesterday, who were 7-0 winners over bottom side Prestwood Reserves.
