Ducks Superior in GX Cup Tie

Monday 27 October 2008 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Ducks 3-0 Burnham Aylesbury found the perfect FA Cup hangover cure in the form of a comfortable GX Cup win over Burnham.

Only a meagre crowd of 67 braved the bitter cold to witness the game at The Meadow, but the stayaway fans missed out as the Ducks put on a confident display to easily dispatch their Buckinghamshire neighbours.

United quickly got into their stride, Nathan Graham crashing home the opener in only the second minute.

The second didn't arrive until after the break, but Nick Leach's curling effort was worth waiting for, and an early 'goal of the season' contender, before Craig Henney rounded things off from the penalty spot.

Burnham had their moments, but they were sporadic, and it was hard to believe the two clubs play at the same level as Aylesbury looked a class above for most of the game.

Our full report from tonight's game is now available via the fixtures page.

Youth Grab Season's First Win

Monday 27 October 2008 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Beaconsfield SYCOB 1-2 Ducks Youth Aylesbury's U18 side recorded their first win of the season at Beaconsfield SYCOB.

Aylesbury had to battle back from going a goal behind, but did so admirably and equalised through Sam Ward five minutes before the break.

Alex Sullivan met a Jack Welch cross midway through the second half to secure the win for the Ducks.

It was welcome relief for Chris Penny's side, coming a week after a bitterly disappointing 3-0 home defeat by Burnham, and the Ducks will now be looking to build on their win.

Full reports of both games are available via the Youth Team fixtures page.

Cup Dream Dies as Sutton Overcome Ducks Once Again

Saturday 25 October 2008 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Ducks 0-1 Sutton United Aylesbury's FA Cup hopes came to an end, as old rivals Sutton United werecked their dreams once again.

A second half goal from Matt Hann turned out to be the winner in a second half which saw the Ducks second best for most of proceedings.

Aylesbury had matched their higher ranked oppponents in a close first half, but chances were at a premium for both sides.

The game was probably a step too far for the Ducks, and they were over-run after the break. Aylesbury still nearly nicked a replay in the dying seconds when Kavanagh's effort had to be tipped wide, but it was a deserved win for Sutton.

A full report is now available via the Fixtures page.

Ducks Slip to Defeat At Oxford

Saturday 18 October 2008 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

Oxford City 3-1 Ducks Aylesbury's long unbeaten record was finally broken at Oxford City this afternoon.

The Ducks were the better side in the first half, and rather harshly trailed 2-1 at the interval. But they can have no complaints at the result after a disappointing second half, never reaching the same heights again.

Chris Marsh netted his first in Aylesbury colours to level the match midway through the first half, after the Ducks had slipped to concede a goal after just six minutes.

A rare mistake from Nick Leach allowed Oxford a third in the second half, and that was game over - for all their hard work Aylesbury were kept at bay well by their more illustrious opponents, and their FA Trophy campaign is at an end for another season.

Worryingly two key Aylesbury players picked up knocks ahead of the massive game with Sutton next week, Mark Jones and Sam Swonnell both forced out with injuries.

A full report from the game is now available via the Fixtures page.

Unlucky Ducks Held at Soham

Tuesday 14 October 2008 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Soham Town Rangers 1-1 Ducks Aylesbury's winning run came to an end at Soham as they were held to a 1-1 draw.

A comedy own goal gave the Ducks a flying start, home keeper Lea Jordan 'Paul Robinson style' miscuing a backpass and watching helplessly as the ball rolled behind him into the empty net.

Aylesbury's team showed five changes to that which had beaten Bath at the weekend, but things appeared to be going well as they created chance after chance. Sadly, new striker partnership Graham and debutant Marsh couldn't turn chances into a killer second goal.

Soham made those missed chances pay when they capitalised on a sluggish start to the second half by United, Darren Jimson scoring with a deflected effort.

Opportunities came for both sides right up until the final whistle, but this just wasn't Aylesbury's day in front of goal as no matter how many clear cut chances they created, not one was taken.

This was definitely a case of two points dropped by Aylesbury, with the home side the happiest of the two come the full time whistle.

A full report from Soham is now available via the Fixtures page.

Ducks At Home to Sutton

Monday 13 October 2008 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | No comments |

Aylesbury United have been drawn at home to old Ryman League rivals Sutton United in the FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round.

The tie will take place on Saturday 25th October at the Meadow, Chesham, meaning Aylesbury's match with Malvern Town will be postponed to a later date.

The Ducks have plenty of history with Sutton, 27 meetings having taken place since the early 80s.

Sutton also famously beat Aylesbury to the Ryman League Championship in 1999, emphatically winning 4-1 at Buckingham Road as the Ducks' title challenge fell apart at the seams.

The sides last met in 2003/04, a 2-2 draw coming at Gander Green Lane, before a dismal 6-0 thrashing of Paul Curtis' side at Buckingham Road being the last time we met Sutton.

Ducks Complete Famous Win in Bath

Saturday 11 October 2008 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Seven comments |

Bath City 0-1 Ducks Aylesbury made it through to the 4th Qualifying Round with a giantkilling act at Bath City.

Top scorer Glen Hawkins netted the only goal of the game in the 63rd minute to send the travelling fans home happy in the knowledge that only 90 minutes seperates them from a potential meeting with a football league club.

The game itself wasn't a great spectacle, and to say Bath were a disappointment would be an understatement, but nothing should be taken away from awesome Aylesbury's display.

The Ducks outplayed Bath for most of the game, and although there were a few hairy moments at the end of the match, thoroughly deserved their win.

A full report from Twerton Park is now available via the Fixtures page.

Ducks Comfortably Through in FA Trophy

Saturday 04 October 2008 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Ducks 2-0 Bridgwater Town Aylesbury set up a 1st Qualifying Round tie at Oxford City with a comfortable win over Bridgwater Town.

Despite making a storming start to the game, during which time United could have been several goals ahead, the first half ended goalless.

Almost relentless pressure from Aylesbury, playing some great football throughout, was punctuated by rare attacks from the visitors, but both sides lacked accuracy in front of goal.

The Ducks finally took the lead after 67 minutes through Glen Hawkins' fifth goal of the season, a bullet header at a corner kick, and they doubled the lead five minutes later when Craig Henney slotted home.

Bridgwater hit back with a sustained spell of pressure, Jack Sillitoe making a brilliant point blank save, but it was as close as they came to threatening Aylesbury's lead.

The Ducks will now take on ex-Aylesbury player Justin Merritt's Oxford City in the next round on 18th October.

Our full report of all the action is available via the Fixtures page.
