Two Goal Gordon Helps Ducks To Big Win

Saturday 31 July 2010 - 10:41 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

A confident Aylesbury performance saw them run out 4-1 winners at Division One side Cranfield United this afternoon.

A stunning drive from Carl Clay, a John Mullholland header and two from Leon Gordon were the goals as the Ducks made their divisional superiority count.

The visitors controlled the first half with Lea Coulter and Ian Pearce linking up well in attack, and they both had chances as did Paul Edgeworth who shot wide from Coulter's pull back.

It wasn't until the 37th minute that Aylesbury made their dominance pay though, when Clay struck a superb rising drive into the top corner from 35-yards which gave the keeper no chance.

As the greens chopped and changed in the second half they were less dominant, but added a second courtesy of Mullholland's bullet header from a corner.

Four minutes later Leon Gordon claimed his first when he took down a cross expertly before picking his spot from 8-yards.

Aylesbury then took their foot off the gas and Cranfield had a spell of pressure during which Sillitoe made a stunning save to tip a shot onto the post.

He could do nothing moments later though when an excellent chip from 30-yards sailed over his head and into the net for some Cranfield consolation.

In the final minute the excellent Leon Gordon grabbed his second as he weaved his way into the box only to be brought down, and his penalty was perfectly placed to round off the game as 4-1 to Aylesbury.

Subs: Craig TOWNSEND (on after 39 minutes), Dijon DESAGURATE (on at half time), Leon GORDON (on at half time), Richard PRINGLE (on at half time), Tony JOYCE (on after 65 minutes)

Ducks Edged Out at Pitstone

Saturday 24 July 2010 - 04:28 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesburys poor pre-season form continued with a 3-2 defeat at Pitstone and Ivinghoe.

United were once again missing a number of players, including a reserve keeper in Jack Sillitoes holiday-enforced absence meaning coach Glyn Creaser deputised in goal.

Pitstone took the lead after just three minutes and doubled before half an hour with a well executed volley.

But the Ducks rallied and Warren Garcias long ranger followed minutes later by Joey Acheampongs close range finish returned parity before the break.

Aylesbury then bossed the start of the second half and had a number of chances to take the lead.

But the loss of Warren Garcia marked a swing in the game and Pitstone scored the decisive goal with a well taken header as United ran out of ideas, energy and time.

Team: Glyn Creaser, Jamie OGrady, Danny Clay, Paul Edgeworth, Justin Gordon, Carl Clay, Warren Garcia, Dijon Desagurate, Will Smith, Joey Acheampong, Ben Baines

Weakened Ducks Crash at Kidlington

Tuesday 20 July 2010 - 10:36 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

A much weakened Aylesbury team went down to a 3-0 defeat at Kidlington this evening.

Unlike the previous pre-season defeats where the Ducks were unlucky not to score, on this occasion - with as many as 10 players unavailable - United rarely posed a threat and in the end the match was as comfortable as the scoreline suggests.

Kidlington had the better of a well contested first half and took the lead on 24 minutes when a through ball caught out the defence and their number 10 gave Sillitoe no chance with a well taken finish.

Leon Gordon had Aylesbury's best effort when he pulled a shot across goal from Steve Miles' raking pass, whilst Miles himself hooked over from close range.

After the break United huffed and puffed but never really got started and two well worked goals within 90 seconds of each other set Kidlington on their way to 3-0 - although Aylesbury were guilty on both occasions of giving the ball straight back to their opponents which lead to their downfall.

Aylesbury's best effort was saved until the very last when Tyrone Taylor's moment of inspiration saw him twist and turn in the box before curling a left-footed shot goalwards but seeing it come back off the crossbar.

Aylesbury will hope for better fortunes with the anticipated return of a number of players for Saturday's game at Pitstone & Ivinghoe.

Team: Jack Sillitoe, Will Smith, Justin Gordon, John Mulholland, Lea Coulter, Joey Acheampong, Jamie O'Grady, Carl Clay, Leon Gordon, Tyrone Taylor, Steve Miles.

Rolling sub: Danny Nicholls

Ducks Gunned Down by Norris Strike

Saturday 17 July 2010 - 6:11 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesbury United lost a second successive Saturday pre-season match 1-0 with defeat at ADL side Bierton.

In a match very similar to the previous week's loss at Winslow United, the home side went ahead in the first half - Luke Norris producing an excellent half-volleyed finish to beat Jack Sillitoe although in truth he should have been closed down much quicker.

Once again the Ducks created plenty of chances, with Edgeworth and Pearce going close in the first half.

After the break Bierton had their goalkeeper to thank as he made a number of good stops - rushing off his line several times to deny Leon Gordon and Edgeworth, whilst making a good save to tip over Mickey O'Farrell's fierce shot.

But United's best chance was spurned on 53 minutes when Danny Nicholls saw his spot kick saved by the keeper after he was brought down in the area.

All in all it was another good workout for United who on another day could have won the match, and the team now turn their attentions to a trip to Hellenic League side Kidlington.

Aylesbury team: Jack Sillitoe, Jamie O'Grady, Justin Gordon, Danny O'Farrell, John Mullholland, Warren Garcia, Joey Acheampong, Jason Castello, Ian Pearce, Leon Gordon, Paul Edgeworth

Substitutes: Lea Coulter (on at half-time), Jack Wood (on after 65 minutes), Danny Nicholls (on at half time), Will Smith (on at half time), Carl Clay (on at half time), Mark Toms (on after 80 minutes), Steve Miles (on after 75 mins), Mickey O'Farrell (on after 75 mintues)

Ducks Confirm Signing of Slough Captain Edgeworth

Saturday 17 July 2010 - 01:11 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesbury United are pleased to confirm the signing of former Slough Town captain, and popular Aylesbury old boy Paul Edgeworth.

Midfielder ?Edgy? has captained the side in both pre-season fixtures so far, and will be the Ducks? club captain for the forthcoming season.

Originally a Paul Curtis signing from Newport Pagnell Town in 2004, he returned the following summer for a second spell and went on to amass a total of 82 appearances with 21 goals ? an impressive strike rate considering his main deployment was on the wing.

He departed Aylesbury for Hemel Hempstead Town midway through the 2005/06 season, and following three and a half seasons with the Tudors followed manager Steve Bateman to Slough last summer, captaining the Rebels to the Division One Midlands playoff final.

We welcome Paul back to the club and look forward to seeing him leading out the team this season.

Meanwhile, manager Tony Joyce has confirmed that around 17/18 players have signed league registration forms for the season so far, with the following registrations confirmed by the league at this stage:

Jack Sillitoe
Jamie O?Grady
Danny Nicholls
James Nash
Tony Joyce

We will bring you further details of the confirmed players as soon as they become available.

Ducks Off The Mark In Pre-Season

Thursday 15 July 2010 - 9:42 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

Aylesbury United got their first win of the new pre-season campaign with a 2-0 victory at Mursley United.

Goals coming early and late in the game were enough to see off a spirited Mursley side, although the second half in particular was well controlled by the Ducks.

Tyrone Taylor got Aylesbury off to a great start when he made the most of some hesitant defending to beat the keeper to a through ball before expertly lofting it over the stranded custodian and into the net from the edge of the area.

The sides were then evenly matched for most of the first half, and it was Taylor who had the best chance for United but saw a shot blocked.

After the interval the divisional gap between the two clubs began to show and new defensive pairing of Mulholland and O'Farrell found themselves rarely troubled.

At the other end Aylesbury began to put some passes together and with some great football evident Castello, Pearce and Edgeworth all went close - the latter drawing a blinding save out of the keeper.

The second goal didn't arrive until the 82nd minute though, when Jason Castello's clever near-post corner was hooked in by Mickey O'Farrell to round off a well deserved win.

Aylesbury's preparations continue in earnest as they next face a trip to ADL outfit Bierton this coming Saturday.

Aylesbury team: Jack Sillitoe, Jamie O'Grady, Justin Gordon, Danny O'Farrell, John Mullholland, Danny Nicholls, Lea Coulter, Warren Garcia, Leon Gordon, Tyrone Taylor, Paul Edgeworth

Substitutes: Ian Pearce (on at half-time), Jason Castello (on at half-time), Will Smith (on after 40 minutes), Mickey O'Farrell (on after 57 mintues), Steve Miles (on after 65 mins)

Ducks Defeated in Opener at Winslow

Saturday 10 July 2010 - 2:35 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesbury United lost out in their opening pre-season match at Winslow United 1-0.

The new look Ducks side struggled for cohesion for much of the match against a Winslow outfit who looked very strong considering their Spartan Division 2 status and included three ex-Ducks in Nick Bennion, Simon King and Sam Ward

They scored what proved to be the winning goal after 25 minutes when a diagonal pass caught out Aylesbury's defence and the ball was eventually cut back from the byline for a waiting attacker to steer it home.

Aylesbury had their chances with defender John Mullholland using his height advantage regularly at set pieces, but the closest he could manage was hitting the post from close range from Joyce's delivery.

Danny Nicholls and Leon Gordon also had headed chances go to waste, whilst one of the new faces Lee Coulter drew the only save from Winslow's keeper who had to tip his drive over.

As always it's difficult to judge the level of the team from the first pre-season game as it's very unlikely this will be the team which lines up on the 7th August.

Aylesbury team: Jack Sillitoe, Jamie O'Grady, Will Smith, Justin Gordon, John Mullholland, Lewis McBride, Lea Coulter, Leon Gordon, Danny Nicholls, Tyrone Taylor, Paul Edgeworth

Substitutes: Ian Pearce (on at half-time), Joe Acheampong (on at half-time), Jason Castello (on at half-time), Steve Miles (on after 65 mins), Tony Joyce (on after 70 mins)

Cup Competition Draws Made

Thursday 08 July 2010 - 1:27 pm | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | One comment |

The draws have been made by the Football Association for the FA Cup and FA Vase.

In the FA Cup, Aylesbury will be away to fellow Spartan League rivals Langford in the extra preliminary round.

The tie will be played on Saturday 14th August.

Meanwhile, the Ducks enter the FA Vase at the 1st Round proper stage and will face one of either Ascot United, Staines Lammas, Mauritius Sports Association or Hertford Town at home on Saturday 2nd October.

Of all these possible opponents, Aylesbury only have any history with Langford who we have met 23 times down the years in various league and cup competitions.
