Some Christmas Cheer From The Management

Monday 20 December 2010 - 12:14 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Five comments |

Going into Christmas and The New Year I wonder how many games we will play or will our next game be in mid January?!

We go into this period 5th in the table and due to play Tring and Chalfont who currently occupy 1st and 2nd, Going into the season not too many people outside of our dressing room expected us to be where we are. I wanted us to be in the top half to top 6 and pushing.

On the field we have scored more goals than anyone apart from Chalfont, Bainesy, Edgey and Lea Coulter all ready into double figures and the odd screamer from Craig Townsend helping to achieve this.

Myself, Gary and Glyn and the players know we need to be better defensively but we play a very attacking style of play and try to win every game instead of times settling for a draw and this has left us open defensively, this is something we intend to improve on going into the new year and hope for a few 1-0 wins.

The lads we have put together in the squad at present are a great bunch to work with and all will be doing their best to get us up as high in the league as we can.

The support we receive from you home and awayso far has been great, one that sticks in my mind was the support we took away to Kentish Town and filled the stand making tremendous noise when we got our equalising goal.

The Vase was disappointing to go out away at St Ives in a game when we didn't get going until the 2nd half, however St Ives have gone on to beat last season?s runners up Wroxham in the next round.

Hopefully in the New Year the team will give you a lot more to cheer about and proud to be an AYLESBURY UNITED Fan.

Have a Great Christmas and New Year.

Tony Joyce, Gary, Glyn and all the players.

Late Goals Kill off Ducks

Sunday 12 December 2010 - 04:12 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Four comments |

Two late, late goals killed off Ducks hopes of getting anything out of an entertaining game against Broxbourne Borough.

The Ducks started the game without three regulars with Robbie Kean suspended and Paul Edgeworth and Liam Coulter missing through illness. New boy Ryan DaSilva was handed his debut on the left side of midfield with Jack Wood moving into the centre alongside Craign Townsend.

Broxbourne had the brighter start and created a number of openings in the first ten minutes without ever troubling Jack Sillitoe in the Aylesbury goal.

As the first half wore on, Aylesbury began to get their passing game together and started creating chances. Jack Wood came closest. sliding in at the far post to connect with a cross but only managing to divert the ball into the arms of the grateful Broxbourne keeper.

Eventually the Ducks made a breakthrough. On 33 minutes another cross caused confusion in the visitors defence and Ryan DaSilva capped his debut by calmly steering the ball through a mass of players and under the unsighted keeper.

Broxbourne rallied in the second half but Aylesbury always looked dangerous on the break and it was the Broxbourne keeper who was the busiest making important saves to keep the score to 1-0.

There seemed little danger when, on 72 minutes Broxbournes Bradley Drisdale hit a speculative shot from outside the area but Jack Sillitoe appeared unsighted as it found its way past his despairing dive into the bottom right hand corner.

Both teams pushed forward for the winner and again it was Aylesbury who had the better chances.

Although Broxbourne looked dangerous going forward, Jack Sillitoes still hadn't been called upon to make a save.

With the game entering a lenghty period of extra time due to a number of injuries, Warren Garcia came closest to securing the three points with a half volley that thundered off the post.

Almost immediately, however, Broxbourne broke forward and found themselves one on one with Jack Sillitoe who was adjudged to have brought the Broxbourne player down in the box for a penalty.

Ryan Wade stepped up to put Broxbourne 2-1 up in the 95th minute. With hardly any time left Aylesbury kicked off in search of an equaliser but we swiftly pushed back in defence again and were stunned by a wonder strike from Broxbournes Rory Brien to leave Aylesbury staring at a 3-1 defeat.

Bizzarely, the referee blew the final whistle at exactly the point when the ball hit the net leading a number of the crowd to wonder whether in fact the goal would stand. Unfortunatley for the Ducks the ref ruled that it had crossed the line before he blew.

A dissapointing result then and one made all the more dissapointing by the fact that Broxbourne only had three shots on target in the whole game yet managed to score on each occasion.

While the Ducks showed plenty of flight, determination and spirit and also created the better chances, their lack of finishing in front of goal has cost them dearly and not for the first time this season.
