Ducks Shot Down By Jets

Sunday 27 November 2011 - 01:57 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

Aylesbury United’s recent run of poor form continued with a fourth defeat in six matches. Despite a bright start, the Ducks failed to show a cutting edge and were made to pay when the Jets opened the scoring through a well worked goal by Lewis Putnam in the 37th minute.

A change of formation at half time, with the Ducks opting for a 3-5-2 formation saw an improvement, but it wasn’t until the introduction of “Super Sub” Joey Acheampong that United found an equaliser. With his first touch of the ball, he showed his speed and control, and fired a ball across the six yard box for Ben Baines to score the equaliser.

However, there was to be no happy ending for the visitors as the Jets finished the game the stronger of the two teams, scoring a deserved winner 8 minutes from time, Paul Danslow putting the finishing touch to a good move down the left flank.

Following this result, the Ducks slipped to 8th in the table, and will have to wait until the home match against Stotfold in two weeks time to try to arrest the recent downturn in results.

Premier Division Roundup - 19th November 2011

Aylesbury and Biggleswade United’s 2-2 draw meant their respective league positions of 7th and 19th remained unchanged, but the big mover of the day was Berkhamsted whose 2-0 win at Oxhey Jets – both goals within five minutes of each other from Matt Wardle and Lawrence Bunker – saw them climb from 6th to 2nd.

At Colney Heath a hat-trick form Ian Cooper, including two penalties, saw him re-establish himself in second place of the scorers board and help his side to a 3-2 win over AFC Dunstable who had lead in the 14th minute through Craig Butler.

Hillingdon Borough made it back to back away wins with a narrow 1-0 win at Broxbourne Borough courtesy of Luke Willis’ goal eleven minutes from time.

Biggest winners of the afternoon were Hertford Town, who secured a hugely important win in their ‘six pointer’ with fellow strugglers Holmer Green. Mark Draper gave Town a half time lead, before ex-Aylesbury man Chris Bangura doubled the score after the break. Another former United player Andy Shed pulled a goal back for Holmer, only for two late goals from Lee Roberts to give Hertford their biggest win of the season.

Stotfold’s up and down form continued as they beat Hanwell Town 1-0 at Roker Park with Gus Stewart’s 15th minute strike proving decisive, whilst there was an away win for London Tigers at Hatfield Town. Second half goals from Erhad Ponxha and Terence Cariba gave the Tigers a 2-0 victory.

Finally in the league, Hadley and Harefield United shared a 2-2 draw at Parkfield.

There were mixed fortunes for the SSMFL sides in the FA Vase 2nd Round. Former Aylesbury striker Lea Coulter scored in the 4th minute to help Division One side Ampthill Town through with a 3-2 win over Haringey & Waltham Development, whilst Royston Town beat Thetford Town in front of a bumper 266 crowd at Garden Walk.

In the all Premier Division clash, Haringey Borough came out on top at Tring Athletic 3-2.

Leverstock Green and Enfield 1893 drew 0-0 after extra time, so will require a Tuesdday night replay to settle the tie, but there wasn’t such good news for Dunstable Town who crashed out 4-2 at Long Buckby.

Ducks Held by Biggleswade

Aylesbury dropped another two points at home as they were held to a 2-2 draw by the ten men of Biggleswade United.

Reduced in numbers for an elbow by Sean Murray just before the break, the visitors then went ahead through Russell Preston's screamer of a free-kick.

Aylesbury dug in and, aided by two attacking substitutions giving them the width they'd been crying out for, turned the game around with Stacey Field netting twice.

But disaster struck in injury time when Ibrahim Fuseini joyfully crashed home a volley to earn his side a deserved share of the spoils.

Premier Division Roundup - 12th November 2011

Monday 14 November 2011 - 05:22 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesbury's lack of weekend action resulted in a drop down to 5th, as they were overtaken by AFC Dunstable – up to third courtesy of a 2-0 win at faltering Hillingdon Borough – and Dunstable Town who shared the spoils in a 1-1 home draw with Tring Athletic.

At the very top, Royston Town's lead over 2nd placed Leverstock Green is now a whopping eleven points with a game in hand, and even at this stage of the season it looks like the Crows will take some catching. Town won 3-1 at Broxbourne Borough, whilst Leverstock fell to a surprise 1-0 defeat at bottom-markers Hatfield Town – who moved up a place as a result of Trevor Golder's first half winner.

Both Haringey Borough and Berkhamsted secured 3-2 away wins – at Holmer Green, who are now 3 points adrift of safety at the bottom, and St. Margaretsbury to move up to 7th and 8th respectively in two eventful matches.

After back to back league defeats, Stotfold returned to winning ways with a 2-1 home win over Colney Heath. Ian Cooper equalised for the visitors a minute before the break, only for the Roker Park side to find a winner in stoppage time courtesy of Theo Swaine.

Down towards the bottom, Hanwell Town hit Hadley with a 4-1 win, their first victory since 4th October, to overtake Hertford into 19th place, with a Jayde Spence hat-trick helping them on their way.

Elsewhere, Harefield United/Oxhey Jets, and Hertford Town/Biggleswade United played out entertaining 3-3 draws where each side held the lead at some point, without being able to take maximum points in the end.

London Tigers Game Confirmed as Postponed

Thursday 10 November 2011 - 05:24 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Saturday's game at London Tigers has been confirmed as postponed by the league today.

The Tigers' home venue was unfortunately broken into and vandalised recently, meaning they have been unable to host home matches.

Other options were explored - such as switching the tie to Bell Close, but Leighton Town already have a home fixture, playing on Sunday, or at an alternative ground.

Unfortunately none of these avenues proved successful, so the tie is now postponed.

Ducks Win Top 5 Clash

Saturday 05 November 2011 - 3:44 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Nine comments |

Aylesbury held on against a strong Hillingdon Borough side to win their top 5 clash and maintain their 3rd place in the league.

For the second week in a row, United were ahead inside five minutes when Ben Baines met Lewis Hallford's cross to head home.

Aylesbury had chances to extend their lead, but it took until the second half when Paul Edgeworth produced a superb finish to rifle home a half-volley and give his side a deserved two-goal cushion.

Hillingdon came back strongly, and the Ducks had to deal with a torrent of pressure as the half went on.

It had to tell eventually, and the visitors duly pulled a goal back with twenty minutes remaining as the ball was turned in from a low cross.

The pressure didn't ease, before the Ducks got the break they needed when Simpson headed in a 3rd from close range after winning a free-kick for his side as a result of Liam Hinds' pull back - for which he was shown a second yellow card.

Still the visitors wouldn't lie down, and they scored another in stoppage time through Paul Haynes.

The goal reduced the arrears again, but with barely time to restart the game United claimed an important and much needed three points.

Premier Division Roundup - 5th November 2011

Saturday 05 November 2011 - 05:26 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | No comments |

League positions once again remained unchanged at the top of the table, but Royston Town are now eight points clear of second placed Leverstock Green after winning 6-0 at Hertford Town. Kaan Fehmi scored a brace in the first half after Matt Standen had given the Crows a third minute lead. In the second half the advantage was extended through Jack Bradshaw, Ricky Young, and summer signing Ryan Redford’s first goal for his new club.

Leverstock Green were without Kevin Gallen, but included another former QPR player in Marc Bircham in their lineup, but still went down to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Dunstable Town who are fast closing in on the teams above them. Lee Roache scored both their goals from corner kicks.

Hillingdon’s 3-2 loss at Aylesbury means they move down to 7th, with Tring Athletic – 2-0 winners at Harefield Untied – and AFC Dunstable – 6-2 home winners over Holmer Green – both overtaking them.

After two league defeats, Haringey Borough got back to winning ways as they defeated Stotfold 3-1, though it took two goals in injury time for them to do so. Stotfold took a fourth minute lead through Nathan Aulsberry, before the home side hit back in the second half when Darrell Cox levelled, before Charles Douse and Dean Mason completed the comeback after the 90.

In the mid table, Berkhamsted picked up a 3-2 win over fellow mid table side Broxbourne Borough, and Colney Heath and London Tigers shared a 1-1 draw, and also drawing were Hadley and bottom markers Hatfield Town, 0-0.

Finally, Oxhey Jets crushed third-bottom Hanwell Town 4-1 at home, and ever improving St. Margaretsbury moved up to 13th with a 2-1 win at Biggleswade United.
