Excellent Ducks See Off In-Form Hadley

Wednesday 29 February 2012 - 08:52 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

Aylesbury produced an excellent away display to bring an end to Hadley's five-match unbeaten run and win 2-0 at their Potters Bar home.

A supreme defensive display marshalled by the excellent Mulholland resulted in a rare and well deserved clean sheet.

Two moments of skill lead to two Ducks goals in the second half from Joey Acheampong and Stacey Field.

Acheampong's opener arrived just past the hour mark when he played a slick one-two wit Field before slotting past the keeper.

Field's was even more memorable - a true moment of jaw-dropping brilliance. Collecting the ball just inside the Hadley half he saw Garland well off his line and had no hesitation in clean lobbing him from all of 50-yards for a superb goal.

Hadley were one of the division's form sides, boasting a tricky and dangerous front line - notably Dom Petrucci with 7 goals in his previous 4 games.

But Aylesbury defended with vigour, determined not to surrender their clean sheet, and were able to leave Parkfield with a well deserved three points.

Ducks Fall Flat at 10-man Colney

Saturday 25 February 2012 - 11:40 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

Colney Heath completed the double over the Ducks with a 1-0 win at the Recreation Ground, despite playing most of the game with 10-men.

Jamie Eames set Colney on their way with a free-kick which seemed to go straight through the wall on its way past Sillitoe.

Aylesbury were generally poor and barely had a shot in the first half, the biggest drama being the sending off of Colney's Ricky Perks ten-minutes before the break for seeming to kick out at Joey Acheampong.

With the man advantage, wind, slope and sun all in their favour after the break, the Ducks did improve slightly, but never enough to mount a comeback.

Home custodian Tom Blackman didn't have a serious save to make, and it ended up being a very frustrating afternoon for Aylesbury.

Premier Division Roundup - 26th February 2012

Saturday 25 February 2012 - 12:02 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | One comment |

It was a good afternoon for the town of Dunstable, as Royston stalled in the league again allowing the two Dunstable sides to move up to 1st and 2nd in the table.

Dunstable Town secured a big 5-0 win at Hertford Town, who have now lost five in a row after some initially improved form following Marvin Samuel’s appointment, whilst AFC Dunstable won 3-1 at home to Hillingdon Borough for their 13th straight league win.

Royston meanwhile were held to a 2-2 draw at Garden Walk by Broxbourne Borough, for whom Daniel Broom hit the equaliser 12 minutes from time. It’s the first time since 17th August that the Crows have been out of the top two.

On a day of five away wins Haringey Borough scored the biggest of all, hitting Hatfield Town for 6 without reply on the road. In the goals were Chris Benjamin (2), Roland Namquita (2) and solitary efforts from Charlie Douse and Dean Fenton.

After 9 straight defeats – 8 in the league – Biggleswade United got back on track at London Tigers with a 3-0 win in front of a ‘crowd’ of just 9! As a result, United move back up above Hatfield by virtue of goal difference.

In another relegation six-pointer, little ground was made as the bottom two of Holmer Green and Hanwell Town had to share the spoils after a 2-2 draw and an evenly matched affair at Watchet Lane.

There was another 2-2 draw elsewhere as Stotfold and Berkhamsted shared four goals. Sean Herr gave Stotfold the lead, only for Matt Wardle to equalise four minutes later in the first half. Lightning struck twice in a dramatic end, as Herr scored what his side must have thought was the winner two minutes from time, only for Wardle to do it again four minutes later and level proceedings!

Going back to the theme of away wins, Aylesbury’s next opponents – Hadley – struck gold with a 4-0 result at Harefield United. Dom Petrucci struck a hat-trick to take his tally to 7 in 4 games, whilst his fellow recruit from St. Albans City’s reserves, Ben Luck, also netted.

Colney Heath’s win over Aylesbury lifts them to 10th, whilst up into 12th are St. Margaretsbury who won 1-0 away at Oxhey Jets with Steve Tutlamo’s 23rd minute goal proving decisive.

Finally, In the ‘Decorum Derby’ as it was being billed pre-match, Tring Athletic produced a late fightback to beat near neighbours Leverstock Green 2-1. Louis West had given Green a 45th minute lead, but goals from Vinnie Iannone on 82 minutes and new signing Martin Griggs in stoppage time completed the turnaround.

Premier Division Roundup - 18th February 2012

Monday 20 February 2012 - 02:49 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

The title race was thrown wide open again on Saturday, as Dunstable Town hit five at Garden Walk to inflict Royston Town's biggest defeat of the season – 5-2 in front of 270 spectators, their biggest crowd of the season.

Kaan Fehmi had given the Crows a 24th minute lead, but the visitors hit back to maintain their 100% record on Royston’s ground with two goals from Nathan Frater, a Lee Roache effort and a further brace from substitute Dean Brennan, whilst Martin Standen struck Royston’s other goal.

With AFC Dunstable also victorious for an impressive 12th straight match, comfortably seeing off Hertford Town 4-1, only one point separates the top 3 as the promotion race once again looks like it could go to the wire.

There was also a key match at the bottom of the division, with Hatfield Town winning their crucial six pointer at Hanwell Town. Two Terry Caswell penalties put the visitors two up in just nine minutes, and although Nathan Monroe hit back for Hanwell, there was to be no comeback. Hanwell are now five points adrift of safety, whilst Hatfield are now six points above the drop zone.

Fellow strugglers Holmer Green, who remain in 21st, were hit for six by a determined Haringey Borough who were 5-0 up in 39 minutes courtesy of a Darrell Cox hattrick and efforts from Charlie Douse and Chris Benjamin. Benjamin scored again after the break before a stoppage time ‘consolation’ by Danny Boateng gave a 6-1 final score.

After five straight league defeats, Leverstock Green returned to form and replaced the Ducks in 6th place with a 2-1 win at another of the relegation-threatened teams – Biggleswade United.

Also winning away from home were London Tigers – 2-1 at Hillingdon Borough whose form has been inconsistent of late, and Harefield United who secured a much needed 3-2 win at Broxbourne Borough.

After seven games without a win Aylesbury’s next opponents, managerless Colney Heath, returned to winning ways with a 5-2 win at St. Margaretsbury, where the deadly Ian Cooper scored another hat-trick and Jamie Eames struck a brace.

Hadley moved up a place to 15th as their recent influx of St. Albans reserve teamers continued to pay dividends with two such players – Nick Chrysanthou and Dom Petrucci – on target as they beat Berkhamsted 2-1, and, finally, Oxhey Jets and Stotfold shared a 2-2 draw at Boundary Stadium.

Ducks Back In Action With A Win

Wednesday 15 February 2012 - 2:43 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Ten comments |

Aylesbury moved up to sixth in the table with a fairly comfortable 3-0 home win over Hatfield Town.

Goals from Stacey Field and Marcus Sawyer gave United a 2-0 lead after quarter of the game, before a Lewis Hallford long ranger finally put the game beyond Hatfield after the break.

It wasn't all plain sailing as there were some nervy moments in the Ducks backline, and only some woeful finishing, coupled with a number of good saves from Sillitoe preserved Aylesbury's clean sheet.

Ironically it was the first time United haven't conceded since they played at Hatfield back in October.

The opening goals were polar opposites - Field scrapping the ball home on 15 minutes amongst some woeful defending, Sawyer firing home a screamer 8 minutes later.

Hallford's was even better, as he let fly from distance having cut inside.

It came at an important time as the bottom-three side were threatening to make a comeback, but were found wanting in front of goal on a number of occasions - and it was a well deserved three points for the Ducks.

Once again, due to the continuing freezing conditions, our scheduled fixture this evening against Hatfield Town looks unlikely to go ahead.

A lunchtime pitch inspection has been called at Bell Close, the results of which will be posted here once known.

Hadley Game Postponed

Saturday 04 February 2012 - 03:50 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

As will come as no surprise, today's game against Hadley has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.

The match will now be rearranged for a date later in the season.

United's next fixture is set to be at home on Wednesday against Hatfield Town, but with temperatures looking unlikely to rise, that match must be in doubt already as well.

Tomorrow's Game vs Hadley

Friday 03 February 2012 - 06:51 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | No comments |

Due to the current freezing conditions, a 10.30am pitch inspection has been arranged prior to tomorrow's home match with Hadley.

Already it is looking very unlikely that the game will go ahead with the forecast for tomorrow looking little better.

Other league member clubs have applied for a 'blanket' postponement of all fixtures given the circumstances, but at the moment this has not happened.
