End of Season Management Update

Friday 18 May 2012 - 4:11 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

The season is over and time to reflect as we finished 4th (Champions League or play offs in any other league!).

Going into 2012 was a turning point for us on the pitch and results showed with a great run through March and April and eventually leapfrogging Haringey and Tring. Personally I think the best team won the league - Royston - and the two teams from Dunstable pushed them all the way.

Our aim has always been progression and we achieved this and we will continue to do so.

On the field Jack Sillitoe, Fritz and Captain marvel Woody marshalled the back 4 with Jonah and Sam improving in the full back positions. In midfield Bainsy had a great season and Edgy still has got a lot to give with Warren full of enthusiasm as normal on his return, Tommy B and Russell played their part when not suspended or injured respectively. Marcus gave us natural width and Joey and Stacey performed well as a pair scoring some outstanding goals on the way and when fit Lord Melford proved he can be a handful to any team. Young JD also gained some valuable experience.

ALL IN ALL I was very proud of each and every one of the players who all played their part. Back room staff Gary, Glyn, Matty and Vicky on match days and training do their bit and play a massive part in preparing the players.

I am all ready looking forward to next season and have spoken to all the players and they have enjoyed the season and are committed to continue improving this fantastic football club as we aim to progress forward and keep all the dedicated AUFC fans entertained.

I have also already spoken to a few players we wish to bring in the close season to further strengthen the team.

Thanks for all your support and have a great summer break.

Epic Comeback Seals 4th Spot

Tuesday 01 May 2012 - 09:53 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | One comment |

An epic comeback of three goals in ten minutes brought Aylesbury back from two-goals down to win 3-2 at London Tigers.

United looked dead and buried after going two goals behind early in the second half, despite having much of the play.

It looked like it wasn't to be their night as chance after chance went begging - until the Ducks were gifted a penalty lifeline for handball, which Stacey Field gratefully accepted.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man... and the greens man of this hour was Paul Edgeworth.

Having had a quiet game he first levelled with a deflected shot which looped up into the net, Joe Donaldson credited the goal for claiming the last touch.

Then, three minutes later, he smashed home a fabulous strike from the edge of the area - and the turnaround was complete.

Tigers offered little in response as United were able to successfully close out the game - and overtake Haringey Borough for 4th place in the league.

Well done to the players and management for such a thrilling finale to the season and the reward they deserve!
