Free Entry at Haringey Borough on Saturday

Monday 26 November 2012 - 2:06 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

To promote their club in the community, Haringey Borough are offering free entry to all supporters for our match this Saturday.

Haringey Chairman Aki Achillea stated: "We have decided to make no charge for entry against Aylesbury United as we wish to get our largest League crowd in what is our biggest game of the season so far.

We have promoted free entry in the local schools and hope that parents and children alike will avail themselves of the opportunity to attend, support their local non-league side, get right behind the team and create an atmosphere like no other.

A glance at the League table will show how important a victory will be and hopefully spur the team on for their next game which is a visit to table toppers Dunstable Town.

I cannot over emphasise how big a game this is. If we lose our chances of securing top spot this season will be as good as over so come on down to Coles Park, see what our Club has to offer and support the boys"

Haringey have recently refurbished their clubhouse facilities, which were formally opened last week by the Mayor of Haringey, David Browne, as well as Ward Councillors and Officials of the Spartan South Midlands League, Essex Senior League and London FA.

Premier Division Review - 24th November 2012

Saturday 24 November 2012 - 10:40 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Three comments |

With four matches postponed, and Hadley playing a Challenge Trophy fixture, there was a limited program of Premier Division action this afternoon.

At the top of the table, leaders Dunstable Town were held to a 1-1 home draw with Ampthill Town. Christian Lester, recently re-signed after a short spell with Southern League side Cambridge City, opened the scoring for the away side on 56 minutes, but the hosts levelled 16 minutes later through Lee Roache.

As a result, Aylesbury were able to reduce the points deficit to four by thrashing basement side Holmer Green 7-0, Louis Austin scoring a hat-trick, Stacey Field and Steve Hatch both netting twice each.

With St. Margaretsbury one of the sides not playing London Colney were able to leapfrog them into 5th spot with a 3-1 win at Biggleswade United, top scorer Matt Newman amongst the goals with a brace.

A 2-1 win at Stotfold moved Tring Athletic into the top half of the table, where Stewart King scored either side of an equaliser from Ricky Baker.

The final match of the afternoon took place at Gosling Sports Park where Hatfield Town and Leverstock Green played out a seven-goal thriller. Two goals from Tobi Akin and a Curt Dizon effort had put the visitors 3-0 up, before further goals from Hatfield’s Cletus Isiri and then Levy’s Harvey Zaha made the score 4-1. Isiri scored again, before Darryl Smith scored in stoppage time to close the gap but it ended 4-3 to Leverstock Green.

Seventh Heaven For United

Saturday 24 November 2012 - 4:58 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

A hat trick from Louis Austin, coupled with braces from Steve Hatch and Stacey Field helped Aylesbury romp to a 7-0 win over league strugglers Holmer Green.

Holmer found themselves two down in ten minutes as Hatch buried a free header at a corner kick with just 75 seconds played, before Austin grabbed his first.

Three goals in five minutes at the end of the half put United five up - Field, Austin and Field again the men on target.

After the break the match was dreadful, as the already poor conditions deteriorated.

United eventually did add a sixth when Hatch thumped home another header, before Austin scored the goal of the game late on to complete his treble, round off Aylesbury's biggest win in many years and close the gap to league leaders Dunstable Town by two points after they were held 1-1 at home by Ampthill Town.

Full report to follow.

Sam Slatter

Friday 23 November 2012 - 08:29 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

An update on Aylesbury United defender Sam Slatter, who is currently out with a long term injury.

Sam hasn't played since seemingly innocuously limping out of our pre-season friendly at Winslow United back in July.

The subsequent diagnosis was a ruptured Anterior Cruciate Ligament, probably the most dreaded of footballer injury suffered by the likes of Michael Owen and Ronaldo.

Sam goes into hospital today (Friday 23rd November) to rebuild the Anterior Cruciate Ligament, and everyone at the club sends their best wishes for a successful operation and a speedy recovery.

It is not anticipated that he will play again this season, but will be aiming to get back to full training in six months and hopefully be ready for next season.

21CD AGM - Chairman's Report

Wednesday 21 November 2012 - 08:41 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Seven comments |

It has been an interesting year. Despite the disappointing early exits from the FA Cup and the FA Vase the team continued to bond well and to finish the season in fourth place. What a pity the league does not have play offs.

This season looked promising as most of last year’s players committed to 2012/13. We were all looking forward to the team doing well in the FA Cup and Vase not least as each victory meant a cash reward. The early exit from the cup was a disappointment but that was nothing compared with the sad exit from the Vase. Played on a Sunday with one player suspended and one cup tied, Tony Joyce in the starting line-up and a bench in name only with an injured Stacey Field the only available sub. An early injury saw Stacey pressed into emergency action. Once again we had failed to progress in the Vase. However league wise we are doing well although it already looks as if Dunstable will take some catching.

We held a very successful end of season presentation dinner here at the College and the profit for the evening was used to meet the cost of pre-season training facilities.

Off the field things have moved on Brian Metcalfe and Alan Sherwell having strengthened the Board. The Football Committee which had not met for a couple of years has now been subsumed into the 21CD Committee which is sensible as most of the Football Committee members were also on the 21CD Committee. No doubt when we return to Aylesbury there will be a need to consider how match day duties are allocated.

The efforts to bring the Ducks back to Aylesbury have accelerated. Talks are ongoing with the College who have now asked for specifications required for a G4 all weather pitch which signals their continuing commitment to the project. Following a discussion at the AVDC it was agreed that David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure should meet Graham Read to discuss the Club’s plans to return to the Town. This meeting has taken place and further discussions are to take place. Graham is very positive about talks so far but clearly as they are in the early stages there is nothing he can say publicly. We should be pleased that talks have started and as soon as Graham has anything positive to report you will be informed.

Early Goals Have Ducks Undone

Wednesday 14 November 2012 - 09:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Seven comments |

Aylesbury went down to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of St. Margaretsbury at Bell Close this evening

The Ducks had a mountain to climb by falling two goals behind with just twelve minutes on the clock - through Connor Scully and Anthony Anstead.

Aylesbury fought back and gave themselves a lifeline when Daniel Jones marked his return to the team with a customary free-kick goal.

Despite having most of the play in the second half, and plenty of chances, United found themselves frustrated and unable to force an equaliser.

Stacey Field - despite having an off key match - hit the post in what was United's closest effort, but it just wasn't to be Aylesbury's day.

Full match report now available.

21CD Committee Meeting Summary

Tuesday 13 November 2012 - 09:46 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

The Committee of 21CD met on Thursday 1st November. This was the first meeting following the decision to amalgamate the 21 CD Committee and the Club’s football committee and members of the latter were welcomed to the meeting.

The main items for discussion were the Quiz Night and the recent Council Meeting. The quiz night, on 19 October, was attended by about 30 people including a number who were not regular match attendees.

The event made a small surplus and thanks were given to the winning team for donating back their winnings and the quizmaster for waiving his expenses (as well as for being quiz master!). It was agreed to investigate a second quiz night in March and provisional details will be announced as soon as possible.

The decision by the Council at its recent meeting to agree to talk to the Club was noted. It was felt that this could only be good news and pleasure was expressed at the turnout of supporters at the meeting. It was also noted that the Chairman of the Club had already arranged to have a meeting with AVDC Leisure Cabinet Member (Cllr David Thompson) for an open discussion on issues surrounding the possibility of the Club returning to Aylesbury. It was noted that talks with the college continue but little can be said due to understandable reasons of commercial confidentiality.

The meeting noted draft accounts for 2011-12, which show a loss for the last year of £266 after accountancy fees of £480.

Reminder: The 21CD AGM will be held on Thursday 15th Nov at 8pm in Room 2-15 at Aylesbury College. More details

Premier Division Review - 10th November 2012

Saturday 10 November 2012 - 10:21 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Fifteen comments |

An early goal from Chris Francis helped league leaders Dunstable Town to a 2-0 win at Hadley in Saturday’s Premier Division fixtures, and with Aylesbury United – 3-0 at home to Hillingdon Borough – and Oxhey Jets – 3-0 at home to Stotfold - also victorious the leading three remained unchanged yet again.

AFC Dunstable are three points behind the top three thanks to a narrow 1-0 win over Haringey Borough, Danny Ryan scoring the decisive goal fourteen minutes from time.

Goals from Sam Ruff and Lee Roberts gave Aylesbury’s next opponents, St. Margaretsbury, a 2-0 home win over Berkhamsted in what was their fourth straight league win, making them the division’s form side right now.

Also 2-0 home winners were Tring Athletic, who beat London Colney 2-0 at The Grass Roots Stadium with second half goals from Reon Thomas and an own goal.

Ampthill Town moved back up to sixth in the table by winning 3-1 at basement side London Tigers. Shaun Cooksey opened the scoring after five minutes, with Tyrone Taylor making it 2-0 before Thiago Panzin pulled a goal back in stoppage time, Mike Lyon wrapping up the three points midway through the second half.

After being thrashed 8-1 in a midweek county cup fixture, 6-1 in the league a week before, Hatfield Town’s awful downturn in form has now seen them lose five matches in a row as Harefield United beat them 4-0 at Preston Park.

Leverstock Green recovered from their own poor recent run to beat Holmer Green 4-0 at Pancake Lane, with Tobi Akin (2), Brad Wadkins and Mark Burfoot on the scoresheet.

In a battle between two of the lower placed sides, Hertford Town came out on top 2-1 at home to Biggleswade United. Sean Stock gave the home side a 2nd minute lead, before James Peters levelled ten minutes before the break, but it was Hertford who claimed the winner from the penalty spot courtesy of Chris Hewitt.

The action was completed by Colney Heath and Hanwell Town, who shared a 1-1 draw – Billy Healey scoring his fourth goal for Hanwell since switching from Hertford Town.

Good Afternoon's Work for Aylesbury

Saturday 10 November 2012 - 6:12 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Three comments |

Three goals, three points and a clean sheet equal a good return for the Ducks who returned to winning ways after three drawn matches with a 3-0 win over Hillingdon Borough.

As many times this season, United seemingly never hit top gear, and were aided by a catalogue of errors by the visitors with three goals in just over half an hour.

The first came from a hashed clearance by custodian Connor Spanns that Ben Butler coolly curled into the net from 40-yards.

Spanns has probably had better afternoons and six minutes later he was unable to keep out a scuffed effort from Louis Austin.

Austin then turned provider as he capitalised on an awful defensive slip to run free and square for striker partner Stacey Field to easily convert.

After Tuesday's gruelling extra time period, United understandably eased off but rarely did Borough look a threat and there were further chances for Aylesbury who hit the woodwork and extended Spanns once or twice.

Full match report is now available.

Penalties See United Through

Tuesday 06 November 2012 - 09:53 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

After 120-minutes couldn't seperate Leverstock Green and the Ducks, which finished 2-2, United eventually won through in the Premier Division Cup 5-4 on penalties.

Stacey Field gave the Ducks a third minute lead when he fired home from 25-yards, but Levy fought their way back into proceedings.

They eventually equalised when Brad Wadkins scored midway through the second half, and with neither side able to find a decider extra time followed.

United scored early again, Ben Baines this time the scorer and although the Ducks dominated the additional period, the home side levelled once more to force a penalty shoot out - which was eventually won 5-4.

The match report from the game is now available.

Aylesbury will now face a trip to Dunstable Town in the 2nd Round on 27th November.
