Ducks Cruise In 5-Star Show

Saturday 30 March 2013 - 6:22 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Nineteen comments |

Aylesbury United cruised to a 5-0 win over near neighbours Tring Athletic with an excellent all-round display.

Ben Butler hit a brace, the first in the very opening minute, whilst Greg Williams, Louis Austin and Ben Baines were also on target.

Butler's opener got the Ducks off to a flyer, and they never looked back with Tring rarely threatening the untested Jack Sillitoe's goal.

Williams added the second on half an hour, volleying home Edgeworth's corner to double the lead at half time.

After the break the one-way traffic continued, and a third arrived courtesy of Louis Austin's composed finish, before a scrappy Ben Baines goal made it four.

The misery was further heaped on Tring when they were reduced to ten-men, and it was compounded when Ben Butler scored a stoppage time screamer to make the final score 5-0.

Aylesbury Awarded Berks & Bucks Trophy

Wednesday 27 March 2013 - 2:47 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Three comments |

Aylesbury United have been awarded the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy, by default.

Following the semi-finals, it was found that both Windsor FC and Flackwell Heath had played ineligible players, for which they were removed from the competition.

As a result, with no opponent to play, the Berks & Bucks FA decided to award the trophy to Aylesbury, on a date to be announced.

United Storm Back To Reach Final

Tuesday 26 March 2013 - 09:28 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Three comments |

Aylesbury United produced a stunning comeback to win 5-3 at Oxhey Jets in the Premier Division Cup and reach their second final of the season.

Stacey Field's early strike had set the Ducks off to a perfect start, but they trailed 3-1 at the interval as Oxhey dominated and any kind of result looked a distant hope.

But this Aylesbury team should never be written off, and set about mounting a stunning turnaround.

Louis Austin scored to reduce the arrears, before Ben Butler netted to send the tie into extra time.

Aylesbury continued their ascendancy into the additional half hour and completed the comeback when Austin fired his second, before substitute Liam Smyth at last made the tie safe in the second period of extra time.

United will now meet Tring Athletic or Hadley in the Final at Berkhamsted.

Breathless Bell Close Win For United

Wednesday 20 March 2013 - 09:17 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

After a pulsating 90-minutes against Hadley, the Ducks finally took maximum points with a 4-3 win.

The game was dramatic from start to finish, beginning with a 2nd minute penalty that Stacey Field saw saved.

From the resulting corner Jack Wood scored, and United held onto their slender lead to the interval.

After the break the visitors asked big questions and levelled, only for Field to score a fine goal for the Ducks to make it 2-1.

Hadley equalised again and a point looked the least they deserved as they dominated proceedings.

But from nowhere United found two late goals - through Jack Wood and Field again - to give them a controlling lead.

Still the drama wasn't over as Ben Luck ran through to score in injury time and reduce the deficit again, but, after a nervy few seconds, United held firm for their win.

Determined Ducks Get Job Done

Saturday 16 March 2013 - 6:17 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Aylesbury made hard work of seeing off relegation threatened Hatfield Town before eventually racking up a 4-1 win.

After a woeful first half, United snatched a narrow lead in the final minute when Joey Acheampong rifled home.

Hatfield weren't downhearted by that setback and duly leveled the match with a breakaway goal after 53 minutes.

It took determination from United to go ahead again, Ben Butler scrambing the ball home ten minutes later.

After that the visitors eventually ran out of steam and Aylesbury had plenty of chances to add to their scoring.

Zac Reynolds and Liam Smyth both added fabulous goals to the tally - Smyth with his first since rejoining the club - to give the respectable scoreline most would have expected before the game and condemn Hatfield to an eighth straight defeat.

Ducks Dig Deep For The Points

Tuesday 12 March 2013 - 09:13 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Ben Baines arrived late at London Colney before coming on and netting the winner in a 2-1 victory for the Ducks.

Aylesbury made a bright start and were rewarded with an eighth minute lead when Louis Austin finished off Stacey Field's through ball with aplomb.

The hosts battled back into the match after that early setback and forced the Ducks back under immense pressure.

After John Mulholland limped out of proceedings before half time, Ben Baines replaced him at the interval.

The defensive reshuffle affected United and Matt Newman ran through to level early on after half time, Shane Wood becoming the second injury victim in the process.

The match then became a test of Aylesbury's mettle, a test the Ducks passed with flying colours as Baines scored from close range before his side went on to hold out strongly.

Ducks Fly Into Final

Tuesday 05 March 2013 - 10:11 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments |

A tremendous performance, two Ben Butler goals and yet another clean sheet sent Aylesbury into the Berks and Bucks Senior Trophy Final.

A fabulous dipping long range strike from Butler opened the scoring in the first half as the Ducks played well and completely stifled their FA Vase Quarter Finalist hosts.

After the break it was much of the same, but although Ascot had more chances they found United in uncompromising mood defensively as they recorded a fourth straight clean sheet.

After Aylesbury failed to take a number of chances of their own, it was another stoppage time goal which finally wrapped up proceedings.

With home custodian Chris Grace attacking a corner, Aylesbury launched a swift break and Field set up Butler who rolled the ball into the empty net to cue joyous scenes.

The Ducks will now face either Windsor FC or Flackwell Heath in the Final.

Ducks Deservedly Take The Points

Saturday 02 March 2013 - 7:07 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

Zac Reynolds and Louis Austin goals gave Aylesbury a 2-0 win over AFC Dunstable and extended their unbeaten run to 14 games.

Austin set up Reynolds to score and give the Ducks the edge after an even first half.

The second period was much more convincing as Aylesbury dominated and created chance after chance.

It took until the final minute for the eventual breakthrough, Austin scoring a fabulous solo effort after a long weaving run.

Our full match report is now available.

Prior to the game Daniel Jones was honoured having recently made his 100th appearance for the club, and is pictured below receiving his award from Chairman Graham Read.

21CD Meeting Summary

Friday 01 March 2013 - 3:45 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

The Committee of 21CD met on Tuesday 19th February. To start the meeting, a brief update on progress on the new ground was given. While there is nothing specific that can be reported at this time; discussions with AVDC and the College are ongoing and moving forward positively. As soon as information is available that can be made public the club will endeavour to do so.

Next season it is expected that we will again be playing at Leighton Buzzard. We have a good working relationship with the Board at Leighton Town FC, and the contract is expected to be signed well before the deadline of 31st March.

Following the successful quiz night which was held before Christmas, 21CD will be holding a second event on Saturday 20th April, after the match v London Colney. This will be held in the club room at Leighton Buzzard. By holding it at the club after the game we hope as many fans as possible will stay after the match and participate.

The trip to Wembley, organised by Chris Penny will go ahead on Sat 2nd March. This is the first venture to combine AUFC & ATFC, and is expected to be a good day out, hopefully culminating in a Ducks victory against AFC Dunstable that afternoon.

This year’s presentation evening will be held on Friday 10th May at Harding’s Restaurant in Aylesbury College. Following the success of last year’s sell out event, the format will remain the same. There will be a meal, followed by the annual team awards and a raffle. The aim is to keep costs to a similar level to last season, but this will be confirmed once discussions with the restaurant have taken place.

The committee discussed how it can interact with ATFC following the recent merger. We welcome the merger and are happy to work with their committee going forward into next season. There are potentially plenty of new supporters for the club that are associated with ATFC, and it is important to try and attract them to the club. Chris Penny’s trip to Wembley, followed by the game with AFC Dunstable is a good starting point for strengthening ties between the teams. A meeting has been arranged at the Aylesbury Waterside theatre on Thu 28th Feb to allow committee members from both sides the opportunity to meet and discuss future plans. 21CD will have representation at this meeting.

Membership of the 50/50 club is expected to fall to 51 by the beginning of next season. In line with the rules for the draw, prize money will drop to £125 per month, meaning there will be 2 prizes per month from the April draw, 1st prize £100, second prize £25. If anyone wishes to purchase tickets in the 50/50 draw, please download an application form from the club shop section of the main website. The more tickets sold, the higher the prize payout. As always, profits go back to your club.

Finally, 21CD will be holding a bucket collection at the AFC Dunstable match to support Lee Bircham as he recovers from his recent serious injury. We hope that those present will be able to spare some loose change to boost the fund.
