Buckingham Road 'For Sale' - Look Out For The Sign

Monday 10 June 2013 - 12:00 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Twelve comments | Used tags: , ,

Over the past few weeks, the Club have been in contact/negotiations with the current owners to buy back the old Buckingham Road ground.

A deal with the Club was almost struck, and finance would not have been a problem. However, after much deliberation, we turned down the offer.

As a result, over the next few weeks, don't be surprised to see a 'For Sale' sign appearing at the Buckingham Road site.

The Board are fully aware of what a return to Buckingham Road would have meant to supporters, and therefore feel it necessary to give some of the main reasons for our decision to walk away from the deal:

1) The Investment:

a) On top of the mortgage, another £100,000+ would be required

b) The additional costs for refurbishment etc. - Money which could be better spent on other stadia we are looking at. Also, these extra hidden costs could cripple the Club in the short term

c) If we wanted to move out/sell up at a later date, who would buy it?

2) Our Future Plans

With the pending amalgamation with Aylesbury Town FC, the Board felt the ground would be:

a) Outgrown very quickly

b) Not adequate enough to accommodate all of our future 'income' streams

c) Planning restraints

Chairman Graham Read commented:

"We need to look 'long term' to secure the clubs future once and for all. Therefore Buckingham Road is no longer suitable for our needs, and with sentiment, we have had to turn down the offer.

The Board's objective is still to take this Club to the highest level and secure its future…its future, playing back in Aylesbury."
