Ducks Disappointed at Dunstable

Wednesday 31 July 2013 - 9:51 pm | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | One comment | Used tags: , , , , , , ,

Aylesbury were well beaten 4-1 by AFC Dunstable at Creasey Park in their latest pre-season friendly.

The Ducks, who have never won against AFC on their home turf, made a decent start to the game and had a 15th minute lead when Dom Petrucci beautifully curled the ball home.

Six minutes later and things started to go downhill for United, as Dunstable scored the first of four counter attacking goals - a low ball across goal being turned in from close range.

A right win cross was smuggled in at close range on 36 minutes, before a stunning top corner strike two minutes from the interval effectively settled the result as the hosts led 3-1.

Aylesbury had their chances with Ben Baines having a shot saved and Jack Wood heading wide from six-yards, but they struggled to contain the OD's impressive front three of BJ Christie, Jason Blackett and Chris Francis.

Tony Joyce made a number of substitutions, but the home side extended their lead midway through with yet another counter attacking goal, the ball eventually smashed home with men over.

Jack Wood saw the ball cleared off the line three times in a matter of seconds, whilst Dean Allen screwed over a rebound in what proved to be Aylesbury's final chance of the match on a night which simply didn't favour the Ducks.

AFC Dunstable Next for Ducks

Tuesday 30 July 2013 - 08:28 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment | Used tags: , ,

With Aylesbury finally kicking into winning habits in pre-season, AFC Dunstable provide the next opposition on Wednesday night.

Disappointing results at AFC Kempston Rovers and Leverstock Green have been followed with successive wins at Winslow United and Thame United, as United look for a third straight win.

Aylesbury have never beaten AFC Dunstable at Creasey Park, and look set for another tough test against a team expected to challenge at the top end of the Spartan South Midlands League once again.

Please note the early kick-off time at Creasey Park (directions here...) of 7.30pm

Ducks win at Thame

Pre-season winning ways continued

Pre-season winning ways continued

On a hot and humid afternnon at the ASM Stadium, the ducks pre-season continued within another victory, this time 3-2 against near neghbours Thame United.

With a number of players missing due to holiday, the Ducks had just fourteen players to use for this match which meant extended time on the pitch for most of them. After a lively and even first twenty minutes Aylesbury got into their stride and started to dominate the game. Geoff Mitchell was among our numbers again and was soon causing all sorts of problems for the Thame defence.

Aylesburys first goal came came courtesy of Jack Wood heading home  a Danny Jones corner, something which he nearly repeated just muntes later. Chances kept coming for the Ducks but fine keeping form the Thame number one kept us at bay.

The Ducks second goal came form a breakaway, Geoff Mitchell collecting the ball on the halfway line and bursting passed his marker to reach the area and lay on a simple tap in for Dean Allen. Further chances followed but half time came with the score 2-0.

The second half contunued where the first had left off and the Ducks were in complete control. Mitchell had chances to score at least twice and again the keeper denied us with vital stops.

A reshuffle of the pack to replace tired legs seemed to break our momentum and Thame came back in the last 15 minutes to square the game at 2-2. However, showing the never say dies spirirt that Aylesbury fans have come to expect the team kept driving forward and were rewarded with a winner from Matt Kimani in the last five minutes.

An excellent work out and result aganst a very impressive Thame side. Thanks to everyone at Thame for their hospitality and warm welcome

Stacey Field

Wednesday 24 July 2013 - 08:43 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Eight comments | Used tags: ,

Aylesbury's 45-goal striker Stacey Field will miss the start of the season having had his ankle injury fully diagnosed yesterday.

Taking a tumble in the opening pre-season friendly at AFC Kempston Rovers, Stacey has a tear to his ankle ligament and will be out for approximately six-weeks.

Stacey Field

It is a further blow to United's preperations for their first season back in the Calor League, following John Mulholland's cruciate ligament injury, fellow striker Louis Austin also looking set to be ruled out with a knee injury, and Lee Bircham's ongoing rehabilitation from a broken leg.

We wish Stacey all the best for a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him knocking in the goals again soon!

Ducks Get Off The Mark at Winslow

Tuesday 23 July 2013 - 10:08 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Twelve comments | Used tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

Aylesbury got their first preseason win of 2013 by scoring five at Winslow United for the second year in a row

The hosts had the first clear cut opening when Greg Williams showed all his experience to clear the ball off the line, but it was Aylesbury who had the lead with just six minutes played when Bill Morgan headed home Lee Grace's perfect corner kick delivery.

An innocuous penalty award was saved by Jack Sillitoe to maintain the clean sheet, and it was the Ducks who added to the scoring when Dom Petrucci nodded the ball on for Ben Baines to head beyond the keeper.

After a goal within two minutes of the restart - triallist striker Jeff Mitchell setting up Dean Allen for a tap in - it looked like being a comfortable night's work, only for Winslow to score from the penalty spot as Sillitoe was sent the wrong way this time.

Mitchell was the undoubted star of the second half, the burly striker adding two more goals for Aylesbury by clinically rounding the keeper to convert Liam Smyth's through ball, and then heading home a right wing cross.

Allen hit the bar and Jack Wood saw an effort cleared off the line to leave the final score 5-1 and give United's coaching team far more positives to think about this time.

Winslow Await Ducks

Tuesday 23 July 2013 - 08:55 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | No comments | Used tags: ,

Aylesbury tonight make the short journey to Winslow United for what has become an annual pre-season fixture.

In 2010 Winslow inflicted a shock 1-0 defeat on the Ducks, and with Aylesbury still looking for their first win and first goals of this campaign they will be hoping for something like the more recent handsome scorelines.

Last season new striker Ian Cooper weighed in with two goals as the greens won 4-0, whilst the season before that a Stacey Field hattrick helped the team to a 5-0 win.

Tonight's match at Elmfields Gate kicks off at 7.45pm.

A selection of news from the Aylesbury United Supporters Trust, 21st Century Ducks (21CD):

21CD Membership Renewal Due Now

As the new season approaches, it is time to renew your membership of the Supporters Trust.  For those of you who have a Standing Order for your payments, you need to do nothing unless you wish to change the size of your contribution.

For those who pay an annual fee by cheque please complete the application form (download link below) and send your form and payment to the address shown on the form.

Can please annotate on the form, or email me whether you wish to have your new membership card sent to you by post, or whether you are happy to collect it at the gate at a home match at the beginning of the season.

At a recent meeting, it was decided that 21CD would take over running of the online club shop.  Supporters should see little change in the way that the shop is managed, but there is one major change which will benefit all members of 21CD.

In order to offer an incentive of taking out membership, all members will now receive 10% off all online orders placed with the shop, with the exception of Season Tickets, 21CD Subscriptions, 50/50 Tickets or Goalden Goal entries.  To take advantage of the discount, members will be asked to quote their 21CD membership number when ordering.

You will also see from the pre-season newsletter (link below) that player shirt sponsorship for this season will now see the sponsor receive their player’s first team shirt at the end of the season - presented by the player himself at the end of season prize-giving evening if possible.

Committee Meeting Summary

A Committee Meeting was held on 10th July, the key decisions taken and matters discussed are summarised below.

A review of the fund raising activities since the last meeting revealed that the quiz night held on 20th April raised a profit of £150.  The event was cost free for the hire of the club room at Leighton Buzzard, so all entry fees were profit, including a generous donation from supporters who were unable to stay for the quiz.  Attendance was slightly disappointing, and was attributed to people possibly not wishing to stay behind after the match.  As a result, it was decided that we will look to hold future quiz nights back in Aylesbury.  Enquiries have been made with the trustees of Bierton Village Hall, resulting in us looking to book the hall sometime early in the new season for the next quiz.  There is no alcohol licence but participants will be welcome to bring their own refreshments.

The Presentation evening was again a great success, with all who attended thoroughly enjoying the evening.  Profit from the evening was £374.  A short discussion about the format for next year’s dinner was held, bearing in mind the amalgamation with Aylesbury Town and the likelihood that more people may be interested in attending.  Rather than come to any firm decisions at this stage, it was agreed to make it an agenda item for the next committee meeting.

The end of year accounts have now been finalised, and are subject to the annual audit.  When audited, it is hoped to be able to hold the Trust AGM in August or September.

21CD assisted at the recent Aylesbury Town FC 5-a-side tournament.  It was a very successful day, and it is expected that we will play a bigger role at next year’s event, when volunteers from the Trust will be asked to assist on the day.

A very informative newsletter has been produced by Ron Syratt and Alan Sherwell, which has been posted on the website and is being sent to all members with their membership renewal notice.  Included in the newsletter is detail behind the decision not to pursue the purchase of Buckingham Rd.  The site at Aylesbury College remains the preferred option for the Ducks to return home, with talks still ongoing.  Supporters should be reassured that while there is not always any news to pass on, progress is still being made and it is a long process.  Aylesbury College remain committed to supporting the club in its endeavour and have renewed their sponsorship of the club for next season.  Alan Sherwell emphasised that the Board's intention was to move ahead on all fronts as fast as possible, consistent with financial stability.

21CD welcomes the news that the merger with ATFC has been ratified by their committee, and all their teams will be playing under the Aylesbury United FC banner next season.  The club has been in discussions with the various groups within the ATFC set up with a view to managing the merger.  21CD intend to have representation at future meetings.  To increase the profile of 21CD with the junior teams, membership publicity shots and Trust updates will be fed through to the website owner for the junior teams, which will be maintained next season.  Junior players will be admitted free to all AUFC matches next season when attending with an adult.  It is hoped to build on the end of last season when we saw a large contingent of juniors and their families attending the last few games of the season.  It was widely agreed that having the enthusiastic youngsters at the games was a great addition to the crowd.

Finally, 21CD membership renewal forms are in the post to all members.  It is a good time for former members to rejoin and of course new members are always welcome.  From the start of the season 21CD will be managing the online club shop.  It was agreed that as an incentive to join or renew, all members of 21CD will get 10% discount on all stock in the shop.

Second Preseason Defeat for Ducks

Saturday 20 July 2013 - 5:58 pm | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | Eleven comments | Used tags: , , , , , ,

With manager Tony Joyce away on holiday, Aylesbury's coaching staff were given plenty to think about as the Ducks lost 2-0 at Leverstock Green.

United took the opportunity to lineup with an experimental formation, but with last season's top scorer Stacey Field the latest to be ruled out injured, showed little cutting edge in front of goal.

Levy's manager Steve Benitez was also away - reportedly taking eight of his players for trials in Spain - but it was the depleted hosts who took the lead on 62 minutes when Junior Bushiri ran onto a long through ball ahead of Jack Sillitoe to guide it into the net.

That lead was doubled eleven minutes later, newly signed striker Stewart King setting up his counterpart Ben Edwards after a decent passing move to score.

It wasn't all doom and gloom for the Ducks as Zac Reynolds and Lee Grace both flourised in their wingback roles, the former at the heart of most of United's best moves, but there was to be no way through a stubborn home defence.

Next up for Aylesbury is a Tuesday night trip to neighbours Winslow United.

Aylesbury United make the short journey to Leverstock Green in pre-season friendly number two tomorrow.

After a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of AFC Kempston Rovers last weekend, the squad has been bolstered with the confirmed signings of Lee Grace and Dean Allen earlier this week.

Meanwhile, hosts Levy went down to an 8-1 defeat at the hands of near neighbours Hemel Hempstead Town in their first pre-season friendly. Ex-Duck Ashley Harewood-Williams featured for the home side, albeit in an enforced defensive position due to unavailability.

Admission to Pancake Lane is £6 for adults, £3 for senior citizens/children.

Four More Commit To Aylesbury

Wednesday 17 July 2013 - 1:58 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment | Used tags: , , , , ,

Two new and two returning faces last night added another four to the signed up squad for the forthcoming season.

Aylesbury are delighted to welcome back the ever popular Joey Acheampong and Jack Sillitoe to the fold. Striker Acheampong has made over 120 club appearances, whilst the long serving Sillitoe passed the 200 mark last season.

Joining the club are defender Lee Grace and striker Dean Allen.

Grace was Aylesbury FC Supporter's Player of the Year in 2012, but surprisingly fell out of favour last season and was allowed to drift away from the Moles - rejoining his previous club Oxhey Jets where he twice featured against the Ducks in the club's battle for second spot.

Lee Grace in action for Aylesbury FC

Dean Allen is a bustling striker who made a good impression playing the second half of Saturday's friendly at AFC Kempston Rovers. He has been top scorer for Holmer Green for the past two seasons - with 27 goals last time out - and is now reportedly keen to prove himself in the Southern League.

We welcome them both to the club and look forward to seeing them in green and white in the forthcoming weeks.

John Mulholland

Monday 15 July 2013 - 4:42 pm | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | One comment | Used tags:

John 'Fritz' Mulholland is likely to miss most, if not all, of the new season having been diagnosed with a ruptured cruciate ligament and damaged knee cartilage.

It is devastatating news for both the player and club after such an innocuous looking injury sustained last season at London Colney.

John is currently awaiting a date for his operation on the knee, but with likely recovery time of nine-months minimum it will be a long road of recuperation.

We wish Fritz all the best in his recovery.

Ducks Lose Out In Opener

Saturday 13 July 2013 - 5:13 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Two comments | Used tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Aylesbury's pre-season campaign began with a 1-0 defeat at AFC Kempston Rovers this afternoon.

In the sweltering conditions, the Ducks gave a good account of themselves and can feel very unfortunate not to at least have forced a draw, with the Kempston keeper by far the busier custodian.

However, a penalty miss and the carrying off injured of Stacey Field added to the afternoon's negative elements.

The Ducks included new signings Richard Armstrong and Dom Petrucci in their squad, whilst Lewis Hallford and Justin Gordon returned, but it was an ex-Duck on show for the hosts who scored the decisive goal - Manny Richardson hitting a speculative 40-yard effort that Jack Sillitoe allowed to squirm under his body and into the net.

Field saw a penalty saved midway through the first half, but United saw plenty of other chances come and go with Ben Baines twice hitting the woodwork - the second a superb overhead effort, whilst Petrucci screamed a shot just wide before turning provider for Paul Edgeworth whose shot was saved.

Half-time completely disrupted Aylesbury's flow, with the inevitible substitutions and stoppages throughout the second period, but they were back in the ascendency for the final quarter without finding a breakthrough.

The closest they came was a Petrucci close range effort which was somehow saved, a header over from Holmer Green striker Dean Allen and a Ben Butler shot which had to be tipped over at full stretch as time ran out.

Aylesbury face a long trip west in the FA Cup, having been drawn away at Cinderford Town in the Preliminary Round.

The sides have some limited history, having previously met in the Southern League several years ago.

The fixture will take place on Saturday 31st August, with £1925 and a trip to Fleet Town, Westfield or Shrivenham on offer for the winners.

Meanwhile in the FA Trophy, Aylesbury will face Ryman League side Faversham Town in the Preliminary Round.

With Leighton Town also drawn at home on the same, the tie is like to be switched to Sunday 6th October 2013.

The Kent side finished 3rd in Ryman Division One South last season. The winners will face another Kent side, Ramsgate, at home in the 1st Round Qualifying.

Football For All

Monday 01 July 2013 - 12:00 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | Ten comments | Used tags:

As many of you may be aware, we were really pleased and proud to announce that Aylesbury Town Football Club would be merging with Aylesbury United from Season 2013/14 with all teams from the senior level through to the junior teams competing as Aylesbury United.

We now have great pleasure in confirming that the motion to join Aylesbury United was passed unanimously at the Aylesbury Town FC AGM, held last week.

At AUFC we are delighted with the forging of our clubs into one and believe it can only enhance the philosophy of both clubs to promote the ethos of giving all local boys and girls the opportunity to reach their full potential in football. We hope this will start with our Saturday Club ‘Townies’ and our Saturday and Midweek meetings for children with a disability as well as our teams from under 8’s to Youth.

Over the past few years Aylesbury United have gone through some major changes in fortune but have never lost faith in our main challenge to return to playing back in Aylesbury, this merger brings this closer as we will now have a presence back in the Town through our Junior and Youth sides. We have made changes in our structure; we are now in the safe hands of local people with the Supporters Trust having a huge say in the running of the club. Now with new ‘blood’ from Aylesbury Town, we have a major opportunity to progress, as well as exciting challenges ahead.

So with teams at senior level (both men and ladies). Youth at boys and girls, Under 8’s to Under 16’s, our Townies and our commitment to disabled children we truly believe we can provide ‘Football for all’.

To clarify: - The three new sections will be: - Aylesbury United Juniors (up to 16). Aylesbury United Youth (up to 18) and Aylesbury United Seniors. (These also encompass the Disabled section and Woman’ section).

We sincerely welcome John, Julie and all at Aylesbury Town FC to the fold, and building upon our recent successes.
