Josie Williams

Tuesday 28 January 2014 - 10:06 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team

It is with great sadness Aylesbury United report the passing of Josie Williams, mother of current United player Greg.

Josie died peacefully at the Florence Nightingale Hospice on Saturday 25th January after a year and a half long fight with cancer, with her family at her bedside.

Although not a big football fan, she attended many games over the years at Buckingham Road, and also made the trip to Port Vale in the FA Cup.

Greg would like to put on record his thanks to the players and management team for their messages of support, and a personal thank you to manager Tony Joyce for his support and the allowing of time off from training to spend time with Josie.

Funeral details will be published in the Bucks Herald next week.

Aylesbury United would like to add their condolences to Greg and his family at this difficult time.

Division One Central Roundup

Monday 27 January 2014 - 10:08 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, Calor League

With the continuing wet weather, four Calor League Division One Central matches were postponed, a further one abandoned as Uxbridge was hit by a monsoon, leaving six games played.

The status quo at the top of the table was maintained with top three sides of Dunstable Town, Rugby Town and Royston Town all victorious.

Two goals in the last five minutes added some late gloss to a comfortable 4-1 win for Dunstable against North Greenford United, with Lee Roache netting a hat trick, and 25th goal of the season, and fellow striker Terry Dixon scoring his second goal since joining the club.

Chertsey Town's joy at back to back wins earlier this week was quickly forgotten as Rugby Town inflicted a 6-2 win over the Curfews at Alwyns Lane. Rugby were 3-0 up after half an hour and never looked back, as league top scorer David Kolodynski fired a brace, as did Seb Lake-Gaskin, to keep his side four points behind Dunstable in the table.

The trio was completed by Royston Town, who edged to a narrow 1-0 win at Chalfont St. Peter courtesy of Antonio Murray's 71st minute winner.

Having drawn with Marlow in midweek, title hopefuls Daventry Town drew their first league blank of the season and lost more ground with a 1-0 defeat at in-form playoff rivals Beaconsfield SYCOB, midfielder Jordan Ajanlekoko scoring the decisive goal after 13 minutes.

Egham Town's first league game of 2014 saw them not only grab the biggest win of the day, but also their season, as they thrashed struggling Potters Bar Town 6-0 at home, with ex-Duck Calvin Thomas amongst the goalscorers.

Finally, Marlow continued their run of draws with a third in succession since the turn of the year, surrendering a three-goal cushion at home in a six-goal thriller with St Ives Town. Ian Davies (2) and Nathan Ashton had given the Blues a commanding three-goal lead with 47 minutes played, but the Ives stormed back with two goals from Avelino Vieira and one from Dan Banister to make it 3-3.

Uxbridge's game with Leighton Town was abandoned after 74 minutes due to a deluge flooding the pitch, with the hosts leading 2-0, whilst Aylesbury FC vs Northwood, Aylesbury United vs AFC Hayes, Barton Rovers vs Slough Town and Kettering Town vs Ashford Town (Mx) were all postponed.

League and Cup Midweek Roundup

Wednesday 22 January 2014 - 09:21 am | Added by: Admin to Calor League, Club News | | Used tags: ,

Five matches took place in the Calor League Division One Central on Tuesday evening.

Promotion hopefuls Daventry Town dropped points in their challenge to leaders Dunstable Town, as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Marlow. Carl Davies opened the scoring for the visitors after eleven minutes, before Josh O'Grady levelled things up just before the break, which was how the scoring ended.

Northwood moved back into the top five and playoff contention by coming from behind to beat Uxbridge 2-1 at Northwood Park, courtesy of Karl Oliyide's last minute winner. The visiting Reds - managed by former Northwood boss Tony Choules - had gone ahead on 50 minutes through Callum Madigan, but Woods equalised just a minute later through when Dave Lawrence scored against his old club, before the late decider.

Having beaten Ashford Town (Mx) on Saturday, struggling Chertsey Town gave themselves further hope of making the great escape with their first back to back victories of the season, winning 2-0 at AFC Hayes, with second half goals from Ryan Blake and Daniel Alderton.

The win moves Chertsey onto 12 points for the season, but with four points between them and third bottom North Greenford United, having played three games more, the Curfews still have plenty of work to do if they are to avoid the drop.

North Greenford themselves were defeated 2-3 at home by ever-improving Leighton Town, who took another big step towards safety, with top scorer Ben Gallant scoring twice.

Royston Town's match at home against Egham Town was abandoned after 75 minutes after Jack Bradshaw suffered a serious hip injury, we wish him well and a speedy recovery.

Red Insure Cup

In the third round of the Red Insure Cup, Hungerford Town and Redditch United progressed to the quarter finals, joining Beaconsfield SYCOB, Burnham, Merthyr Town, St Neots Town and Tiverton Town.

Division One Central side Kettering Town lost out by the odd goal in nine as a thriller at home to Redditch United went 5-4 the way of the Premier Division side, whilst Premier Division Hungerford Town won comfortably 4-1 at Cirencester Town.

Berks & Bucks Senior Cup

In the first semi final, holders Beaconsfield SYCOB hosted Wycombe Wanderers and eventually won through to their second final in a row after winning 4-2 on penalties following an exciting 3-3 draw. Tom O'Regan scored a third minute free kick against his old club, and Jon-Jo Bates was also on target in a first half that ended 2-2, and it was Kofi Lockhardt-Adams who scored five minutes from the end to send the tie into extra time.

They will face the winners of Aylesbury United vs Chesham United in the final.

Division One Central Roundup

Saturday 18 January 2014 - 5:18 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, Calor League

With eight matches postponed due to the wet weather, only three fixtures took place in the Calor League Division One Central.

A crowd of 773 saw second placed Rugby Town held to a 1-1 draw at home by in-form Kettering Town, as new signing Elliot Sandy scored two minutes into injury time to take the Poppies' unbeaten run to 15-games and cancel out Mason Rowley's opener early in the game.

Another of the promotion hopefuls Slough Town came out on top of their local derby with Chalfont St. Peter, and although the Rebels had to come from behind to do it, four second half goals - including a brace from Johnnie Dyer - saw them eventually trash their neighbours 5-1.

At the wrong end of the table a massive game for the bottom two sides saw Ashford Town (Mx) entertain Chertsey Town. Both went into the match on six points, but it was Chertsey who were victorious, notching their first away league win of the season as John Pomroy and Billy Wilson goals secured a 2-0 scoreline to put some daylight between them and the foot of the table.

Division One Central Midweek Roundup

Wednesday 15 January 2014 - 11:41 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | | Used tags: ,

League leaders Dunstable Town surprisingly dropped points in a 2-2 home draw with Bedfordshire neighbours Leighton Town, as the Reds twice came from behind to peg back the Blues.

Former Spurs starlet Terry Dixon (once dubbed the 'Irish Wayne Rooney') scored his first goal since moving from Hitchin Town to give the hosts a 36th minute lead, only for Enzo Silvestri to equalise against one of his former clubs in the second half, and the pattern continued with Dan Hutchins's goal cancelled out by substitute Jack Downes just five minutes later.

At Communications Park, Aylesbury's next opponent, Daventry Town, secured a massive result in their promotion bid as they beat rivals Barton Rovers 3-1. Recent signing Luke Keen scored a hat trick for the home side to take his tally to , with the win meaning that Daventry taking maximum points from their five games in hand would put them just a point behind Dunstable.

Two mid-table teams in St Ives Town and Aylesbury United faced up in Cambridgeshire, with the visiting Ducks taking the spoils 4-2 after an entertaining game, with veteran Paul Edgeworth scoring twice.

AFC Hayes vs Ashford Town (Mx) and Marlow vs Chertsey Town were both suspended due to waterlogged pitches.

On Monday night, in-form Beaconsfield made it six straight league wins, and are unbeaten since the first week of November, by edging out North Greenford United 3-2 at home.

Trailing at the break to Myles Stephenson's fourth minute goal, the Rams had to come from behind but did so with the help of two goals from on-loan Wealdstone man Jack Hutchinson.

Edgeworth Double for Ducks

Wednesday 15 January 2014 - 08:30 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | | Used tags: ,

Aylesbury consolidated their top ten position in the league by winning a thrilling encounter 4-2 at St Ives Town on Tuesday evening.

The Ducks had already had two goals disallowed before Paul Edgeworth scored his first of a brace to break the deadlock after 36 minutes.

Whilst Aylesbury had been largely in control, St Ives had moments of their own and going in level at the interval was a fair reflection, as the hosts equalised just before the break.

It took just four second half minutes for United to restablish control of the match when Zack Reynolds scored a goal his superb display merited, and they went further in front through Stacey Field, only for Town to pull a goal back almost straight away as the entertainment continued.

United's control of the game wasn't to be seriously questioned though, and Edgeworth's second 19 minutes from time assured a first three points of 2014.

Division One Central Roundup

Saturday 11 January 2014 - 8:25 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | | Used tags: ,

With nearest rivals Rugby Town not in action, Dunstable Town extended their lead at the top of the table to four points with both teams having played 23 games, as the Blues made it fifteen league wins without defeat.

After a goalless first half at Creasey Park, St Ives Town took the lead through Jon Stead almost straight away, but that lead lasted less than two minutes with Leon Cashman levelling, and Tony Burnett scoring ten minutes later to give Dunstable a 2-1 win.

Royston Town took Barton Rovers' third place (whose game was postponed) by winning 3-1 at Uxbridge, Robbie Mason hitting a hat-trick and all three of the domnant Crows' goals.

Biggest winners of the day were Kettering Town, who overtook Slough and Daventry to move into the playoff positions by beating Leighton Town 5-1, with Dubi Ogbonna scoring a hat-trick of penalties.

Northwood are just a point behind the Poppies thanks to their 2-0 win at struggling Chertsey Town, where Jerome Federico, with his second goal in three games since returning to the club, and Nico Muir scored both the goals inside the opening half hour.

Another playoff hopeful, Slough Town, are now without a win in four games and shared the spoils at Marlow in a 2-2 draw, despite going ahead in the first minute, whilst Aylesbury United and Potters Bar also finished even at 0-0.

With only a point between them in the table, AFC Hayes and Chalfont St. Peter predictibly ended level, but Saints held a two-goal lead courtesy of Alan Heldey and Romaine Walker after 21 minutes, only to be pegged back by Charlie Crane and Lucas Williams before the break, which was how it ended at 2-2.

Finally, basement side Ashford Town (Mx)'s form shows no signs of improving as they went down to a 2-0 defeat at Beaconsfield SYCOB, whose Zak Joseph scored in each half to condemn the Tangerines to a 17th straight defeat.

Three matches were postponed this afternoon: Aylesbury FC vs Rugby Town, Barton Rovers vs North Greenford United and Egham Town vs Daventry Town.

Goalless Draw to Start the Year

Saturday 11 January 2014 - 5:01 pm | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | | Used tags:

Ten man Aylesbury got their much-delayed 2014 underway with a hard earned point against Potters Bar Town.

The Ducks made a slow start to the game, picking up in an overall even first half, but the main talking point was the dismissal of Lee Grace for a second yellow card on the stroke of half time.

United continued to go for the win after the break, leaving two strikers up front, and had to work hard at times to contain a mobile visiting team.

In fact, it was the Ducks who ended the stronger as they hit their opponents on the break and had chances to nick a late win, but both teams had to settle for a share of the spoils.
