Wantage Found Wanting

Tuesday 30 September 2014 - 9:39 pm | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | | Used tags: ,

Shaun Owens's second half goal gave Aylesbury their second 1-0 win of the week, and their fourth straight win in all competitions as the Ducks won 1-0 in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup 1st Round at Wantage Town.

A largely drab match was lacking in quality, but did see the return of defender John Mulhollnd after 18 months injured as he played the first half before giving way at the interval.

Wantage had the bulk of the first half chances, although Aylesbury had the best when Lea Coulter's shot was cleared off the line with the goal vacant.

After the break openings were rare, with Owens decisive strike coming on the hour mark as United did enough to keep their Southern League Diviion One South & West hosts at bay and advance in the competition.

Girls U16 Triumphant In County Cup

Monday 29 September 2014 - 09:42 am | Added by: Andy Foster to Ladies, Club News

Winslow United U16 Girls 0, Aylesbury United U16 Girls 6

Following the summer merger with Vale Reds FC the Aylesbury United Girls U16 side made an impressive start to their Berks & Bucks Cup campaign on Saturday with a comprehensive 6-0 win at Winslow

Resplendent in their new green and white kit, United dominated the game on a balmy morning and were two up at the break with goals from Katy Simms and Aaliyah Brown-Carr

The Ducks continued to dominate during the second period breaking freely down both flanks creating numerous chances and would have had more had it not been for a determined effort from the home keeper

Particularly impressive was United player of the match Hannah Matton who seemed to have the ball glued to her feet at times as she waltzed down the touchline

Both Mo Hatfield and Alex Slatter notched two each to complete the scoring and to set up a quarter final at Milton Keynes City in mid November

United Line Up - Shannon Sharp, Anna Hekkink, Casey Toovey, Amiee Bochorski, Alex Slatter, Emily Reynolds, Paige Hooper, Katie Riordian, Aaliyah Brown-Carr, Isobel Rushmere, Katy Simms, Hannah Matton and Amelia Hatfield

Division One Central/FA Cup Roundup

Saturday 27 September 2014 - 9:14 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | | Used tags: , ,

With the FA Cup taking centre stage once more, there was a reduced programme of just five games in the Southern League Division One Central this weekend.

With the top two sides not in action, Potters Bar Town missed out on the opportunity to go top as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Aylesbury United, with Ducks captain Jack Wood scoring the winner shortly before the break. It was the first time the Scholars have dropped points at home having won four out of four home league games previously.

Aylesbury FC took over 2nd place as they romped to their second 8-1 win of the month, St Ives Town the victims this time (Leighton Town earlier in September) as Brad Wadkins scored a hat-trick and Gareth Price weighed in with another two for the Moles.

Hanwell Town are 5th as they bounced back from defeat to Beaconsfield SYCOB with a 3-1 win at near neighbours Northwood, with Chris Mills scoring a brace.

At the bottom, AFC Hayes scored a goal in each half through Ricardo Faux-James and Tobi Akin to win 2-0 and claim their first league three points of the season, closing the gap to second bottom side North Greenford United.

After seven games without a win, Bedford Town took a much needed victory as young MK Dons loanee Will Summerfield scored early to give the Eagles a 1-0 win over Egham Town.

In the FA Cup eight Southern League Division One Central teams were in 2nd Qualifying Round action, but, amongst several upsets, only three remain in the competition with Barton Rovers and Chalfont St. Peter winning outright and Bedworth United heading for a midweek replay.

Barton Rovers beat higher level opposition in Ryman Premier Division side Margate, as Kevin Kilroy and Louis Lee scored in a 2-1 win, whilst Chalfont also caused something of a shock by beating divisional rivals, and league leaders, Kettering Town 1-0 on their own turf courtesy of an eigth minute Alan Hedley goal.

Meanwhile, Bedworth were held to a 1-1 home draw by Unibond League Division One South side - effectively the same level as the Greenbacks - and will require a midweek replay at The Raygar Stadium.

Southern Counties East League side Greenwich Borough caused an upset by coming from behind to win 3-1 at Beaconsfield SYCOB and knock the Rams, who had taken the lead through Lee Togwell, out of the competition.

A 20th minute goal from Waltham Abbey was enough to see North Greenford United beaten 1-0, whilst two sides losing against Vanarama Conference opposition were Rugby Town and Uxbridge, losing 3-1 at Vanarama Conference North side Worcester City and 5-1 at Vanarama Conference South side Bromley respectively.

U8/U10 Girls Excel

Saturday 27 September 2014 - 8:10 pm | Added by: James Byrne to Ladies, Club News

Aylesbury United U8 / U10 girls had their first taste of playing matches this morning. Playing against U9/U10 teams from Chalfont and Milton Keynes, their results were 6-1, 1-4, 4-1, 2-1, 0-1.

This was the first time that any of the girls had ever played organised matches before and all 8 girls who represented the team were superb throughout the whole morning. They all had a taster of playing in different positions and most of them managed to get on the score sheet or make important contributions elsewhere.

Interested in joining the team?
Training is this Thursday from 4:30 until 5:30pm at Stoke Mandeville Combined School on Lower Road (the small village school, not the Secondary). After this week training moves to a Tuesday night (starting on 7th October) from 4:30 until 5:30 on the 3G pitch at Mandeville Secondary School. Any girls currently in Years 2, 3, 4 and 5 are welcome to join the team so please just come along to a training session or email for more information

The girls are also looking for a local company to sponsor a new kit for them. For just over £250 we can kit them all out in a brand new kit with your companies logo on the front. It would be great to get them all wearing matching kits for the next festival at the end of October. Anyone interested please email

Bar Nothing, Ducks One

Saturday 27 September 2014 - 4:51 pm | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | | Used tags: ,

A goal from captain Jack Wood minutes before the interval gave Aylesbury United a 1-0 win at third-placed Potters Bar Town.

In doing so the Ducks became the first side to take points at Parkfield, with Town having won four of their four previous home league games.

Aylesbury had most of the chances in the first half, with Bill Morgan and Steve Hatch both missing before Jack Wood headed the ball home after the hosts had failed to clear a corner kick.

The second half saw plenty of pressure on the Ducks goal, but whilst there were chances United keeper Jack Sillitoe didn't have a serious save to make.

Update From Tony Joyce

Sunday 21 September 2014 - 9:14 pm | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News

Hello Everyone.

It has been a while since my last update, so here's the latest from the dressing room:

I am really pleased with the squad at present and the current form we have been in especially the two wins over Marlow and Bedford Town.

With a big squad and players fighting hard for places I have been able to loan players out to gain match practice, experience and regain fitness.

- John Mulholland played a full 90 minutes for New Bradwell in  a 1-0 win.

- Ben Baines scored twice for Wolverton Town.

- Danny Jones played well in Thames 2-0 win.

- Danny Higby and Liam Murphy continue to get experience at Winslow United.

- Lee Bircham was Man of the match AGAIN for Bovingdon.

- Zack Reynolds has 'dual registered' with Hemel Hempstead Town and came on for 20 mins on Saturday (Zack will still play for us at times,so you will see him in the green and white again).

All the players mentioned are still very much part of the club and are 'on loan'.

Not forgetting the 15 players we had at Bell close on Saturday who are all doing very well and improving all the time.

We have a fantastic group of players and I can't personally wait for the next game!

Division One Central Roundup

Sunday 21 September 2014 - 11:52 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | | Used tags: ,

Table toppers Kettering Town and Potters Bar Town both lost in Saturday's Southern League Division One Central action, allowing Royston Town to take over 2nd spot in the table as they beat battling Leighton Town 2-0, with Craig Hammond scoring his first of the season, and Kaan Fehmi scoring in stoppage time to finally see of the 10-man Reds.

Kettering still lead the pack, despite Marlow bringing an end to their six-match winning run in all competitions, Craig Scott scoring a last minute goal to give the Blues a 3-2 win, whilst Potters Bar are now third after Kevin Warner's 32nd minute goal was enough to give Uxbridge their second win of the season, 1-0.

Aston Goss's winner on the hour mark saw Aylesbury FC become the first team to win on Bedworth United's new 3G pitch and leapfrog their opponents to fourth in the table as a result, despite playing the last twenty minutes with ten men after Ben Stevens's dismissal.

At the bottom, AFC Hayes are still propping up the league after Barton Rovers inflicted their sixth league defeat, and ninth league game without a win, with Tony Burnett netting his fourth goal in three games since joining Rovers amongst the scorers in a 3-1 win.

Second bottom are still North Greenford United, who, having lead for most of the match through Michael Kinsella's 15th minute goal, lost out to late, late goals from Dan Pearse (90+2) and Reis Stanislaus (90+10) in a game marred by a serious injury to Calvin Thomas.

After relegation from the Premier Division last season, Bedford Town now occupy third bottom as they lost their fourth match in succession with a 3-2 defeat at Aylesbury United, with Steve Hatch scoring twice for the Ducks.

Beaconsfield SYCOB built on their midweek FA Cup replay win over Godalming Town with a second league win of the season, as Naseem Bashir's side won 3-1 at Hanwell Town, whilst Godalming themselves bounced back with a 1-0 win at St. Ives Town courtesy of Darren Wheeler's 25th minute winner.

Elsewhere, 13th and 14th placed sides Chalfont St. Peter and Rugby Town battled out a 2-2 Mill Meadow draw, as Alex Paine's stoppage time goal salvaged the point for the hosts, and Daventry Town and Northwood cancelled each other out in a goalless stalemate.

Hatch Double Downs Eagles

Saturday 20 September 2014 - 5:46 pm | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | | Used tags: ,

Steve Hatch scored twice to earn the Ducks a hard fought victory over Bedford Town, as Aylesbury won 3-2 at Bell Close.

United seemed intent on making life difficult for themselves as they twice let the Eagles equalise, before eventually going on to claim their first win against Bedford since 2001.

After an uneventful first half hour, Hatch struck with an accurate low drive to break the deadlock.

Tom Liversedge levelled from the spot, but in first half stoppage time Hatch struck again when he rounded off the best move of the first period by sidefooting home Stacey Field's low ball.

Bedford scored again early in the second half, but again it was the Ducks who edged back in front when Shaun Owens prodded home to mark his first start for the club with the decisive goal.

Player News

Friday 19 September 2014 - 10:30 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | | Used tags: , ,

Aylesbury United winger/full back Zack Reynolds has signed for Southern League Champions Hemel Hempstead Town, as reported by Pitchero Non League.

The youngster has been in fine form this season, with four goals in his six games, and attracted the attentions of Football League side Millwall, where he spent a week training, after scoring a spectacular hat-trick against Egham Town.

Hemel have enjoyed a mixed start since promotion to the Vanarama Conference South, which will be a step up of two divisions for Reynolds, where he will join other former Aylesbury men in assistant manager Stuart Maynard, and defenders David King and Kieran Murphy.

We thank Zack for his efforts in his three years with the Ducks, and wish him well in his new challenge.

Meanwhile, defender John Mulholland has signed for New Bradwell St Peter as he steps up his recovery from injury.

After missing the entire 2013/14 campaign having had surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament, 'Fritz' came through 45 minutes of a friendly at Winslow United last week unscathed, and has now rejoined his former club in order to regain match fitness ahead of a push to regain his place in the Ducks team.

New Bradwell host Clean Slate - a new side to the Spartan South Midlands League - in a Division Two fixture this weekend, with Mulholland in line for a first competitive match since March 2013.

FA Cup Replay Roundup

Wednesday 17 September 2014 - 08:51 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team

Two more Calor League Division One Central teams went through to the FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round following Tuesday night's replays, joining Beaconsfield SYCOB who were victorious on Monday night.

Rugby Town travelled to Staffordshire and came away with a hard earned 3-1 extra time win over Chasetown of the Evo-Stik Northern League Premier Division. David Kolodynski - as so often - was Valley's hero, scoring in the first minute and then twice in extra time to complete a hat-trick and settle a tense game.

New Barton Rovers signing Tony Burnett made it three goals in two games as his double helped his side overcome Northwood 3-2. The visitors twice came from behind before youngster Alex Condon came off the bench to score the winner - and his first goal for the club - five minutes from time.

Jack Mazzone's penalty had given Godalming Town a 52nd minute lead at Beaconsfield SYCOB on Monday, but the hosts equalised almost immediately before Ollie Jones netted with nine minutes remaining to send the Rams through.

FA Cup Roundup

Saturday 13 September 2014 - 5:58 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team

Bedworth United, Chalfont St. Peter, Kettering Town and Uxbridge form the four Southern League Division One Central sides guaranteed passage to the FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round following today's results, with another five - Barton Rovers, Beaconsfield SYCOB, Godalming Town, Northwood and Rugby Town - all requiring replays to determine their fate.

Another side, North Greenford United, didn't even get chance to play after their tie at AFC Kempston Rovers was postponed "pending an FA investigation".

Chalfont St. Peter caused something of an upset, as Glenn Yala's goal twelve minutes from time gave the Saints a 2-1 win to knock out Premier Division outfit Hungerford Town, with both sides unbeaten in their previous five matches.

An all Division One Central clash saw another two in-form teams meet, as Aylesbury FC hosted league leaders Kettering Town at Haywood Way, where a crowd of 342 saw Jason Lee net his first since signing for the Poppies to open the scoring as the visitors ran out 2-1 winners.

Bedfont & Feltham, who had shocked Leighton Town in the previous round, were clinically disposed of by Uxbridge, who racked up the biggest score of all Southern League sides as they won 6-0, with Craig Tomkins and Matt Woods scoring two each.

Danny Dubidat's second hat-trick in successive games made it four wins on the spin in league and cup for Bedworth United, who won comfortably 3-0 at Midland Football League side Boldmere St. Michaels. Dubidat's treble, coming on 66, 70 and 89 minutes takes his tally to 12 for the season, in 11 games.

Debutant Tony Burnett, signed in the week from Dunstable Town, gave Barton Rovers a late lead against Northwood, but that only lasted seven minutes as George Nicholas equalised a tight game in the 86th minute, whilst another all Division One Central clash between Godalming Town and Beaconsfield SYCOB ended goalless.

Also clinging onto survival in the competition are Rugby Town, whose Jamie Towers provided the second half response to a first half opener against Unibond League Division One South outfit Chasetown in a 1-1 draw.

Out of the FA Cup are Daventry Town, who lost 2-1 at Premier Division side Hitchin Town to become the only Division One Central side eliminated on the day.

Elsewhere, Bedford Town and Leighton Town filled their free Saturday by bringing forward their Red Insure Cup First Round tie, and it was the Reds who built on their league win at the Eyrie in August by going through 4-2 on penalties having twice battled back from a goal down, the match ending 2-2.

Friendly Arranged

Friday 12 September 2014 - 4:32 pm | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team

With the Ducks facing a ten-day playing break due to their elimination from the FA Cup, Tony Joyce has decided to organise a midweek friendly.

Aylesbury United will now make the short journey to Winslow United on Tuesday 16th September, kick off 7.45pm.

The two clubs have agreed an informal linkup this season which has seen youngsters Daniel Higby and Liam Murphy turn out for Winslow, whilst Ryan Freshwater has recently moved in the other direction, and this partnership has now seen Winslow kindly agree to host what should be a mutually beneficial game.

Ducks Maul Marlow

Wednesday 10 September 2014 - 9:38 pm | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News | | Used tags: ,

Aylesbury took an important win at Bell Close as five different scorers found the net in a 5-1 win over Marlow.

Aftera finely balanced first half, The Ducks were rather gifted a 2-0 lead at the interval with visiting goalkeeper Simon Grant at fault as Lea Coulter and Jesse Waites scored.

A Steve Hatch effort almost immediately after the restart, and then Marlow's reduction to ten men effectively killed the contest, but they pulled one back to reduce the arrears to 3-1.

But United went on to control the remainder and were rewarded for their dominant second half performance with furhter goals from Zack Reynolds and Paul Edgeworth giving a handsome margin of victory.

Division One Central Tuesday Roundup

Wednesday 10 September 2014 - 11:33 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News

Aylesbury FC recorded the biggest win of the Southern League Division One Central season to date as they crushed Leighton Town 8-1 at Haywood Way. The beleagured Reds, who have now lost four of their last five league and cup games, were already two goals down before being reduced to ten-men, as FC substitute Lynton Goss went on to score four goals as part of the rout.

The top two sides - Kettering Town and Potters Bar - both won again, the former for a fourth successive game, to maintain a three point gap over third placed Royston Town.

Despite being delayed by a second half floodlight failure, Kettering crushed St Ives Town 5-0 at Latimer Park, with Brett Solkhon scoring a hat-trick, whilst Potters Bar overcame Barton Rovers 2-0 at home with two goals from Evandro Delgado in stoppage time at the end of each half.

Royston had to come from behind to beat Beaconsfield SYCOB 3-1 at Garden Walk, with the Rams' Lee Thompson having given the visitors a 12th minute lead, only for a Kaan Fehmi double helping the Crows recover.

Bedworth United and Hanwell Town were also both victorious to remain fourth and fifth in the table respectively, with Bedworth beating struggling Bedford Town 4-1 at home, aided by a Danny Dubidat hat-trick, and Hanwell battling to a 3-2 win at Godalming Town having previously lost their last three games.

After a 6-1 weekend thrashing of Hanwell, Rugby Town's predicted title challenge looked to be back on track, but a 1-0 home defeat by Daventry Town - themselves recovering after a humbling 4-0 defeat by Royston at the weekend - now leaves Valley in eleventh place, eleven points off the top. Tom Berwick's penalty on the hour mark settled the match at Butlin Road.

With their first back to back wins of the season, Egham Town moved into the top half of the table as they ended Northwood's four-match unbeaten run as four different scorers gave the Sarnies a 4-1 win at Runnymede.

Down at the bottom, AFC Hayes collected their third point of the season with a 1-1 home draw against Chalfont St. Peter, but are still searching for their first win.

North Greenford United also drew 1-1 at home, as Louis Stead's last minute effort gave them a share of the spoils against fellow strugglers Uxbridge.

Wednesday night's only action sees Aylesbury United take on Marlow at Bell Close.

Division One Central Roundup

Saturday 06 September 2014 - 7:54 pm | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News

No change in the top two of the Southern League Division One Central table following Saturday's games, with leaders Kettering Town and second placed Potters Bar Town both enjoying big wins.

Goals from Andy Hall, Dubi Ogbonna, Andrew Gooding (2) and Jamie Clifton gave Kettering a 5-0 win at struggling AFC Hayes, who remain bottom with only two points and no wins to their name as a result, whilst Bedford Town are without a win in four games in all competitions having been thrashed 4-0 at home by Potters Bar.

Royston Town - 4-0 at Daventry Town - and Bedworth United - 5-2 at Beaconsfield SYCOB - also both enjoyed big away wins to move up to 3rd and 4th in the table respectively.

Scott Bridges was the first of four goalscorers for Royston that saw Chris Watters, Lewis Endacott and Dave Theobald net as the Crows put the disappointment of their FA Cup exit at the hands of Brightlingsea Regent behind them and make it three league games unbeaten.

Aaron Berry and Lee Togwell gave Beaconsfield a two-goal lead against Bedworth, but a Daniel Creaney double helped the visitors go on and claim their fourth away league win of the season.

Also with four different goalscorers were Chalfont St. Peter, whose Aaron LansiquotAlan HedleyRemmell Clarke and Glen Yala all netted to give the Saints a 4-1 win at North Greenford United.

On a day that saw eight away wins from the eleven fixtures, Rugby Town took the biggest victory of the day with a 6-1 thrashing of Hanwell Town, who, having topped the league two weeks ago, have now lost their last two games.

Two goals from Josh Andrew helped Egham Town to a 3-0 win at Leighton Town, who have now not won for four games, and completing the away wins list were Aylesbury FC, who moved up to eighth by virtue of their 3-1 win at Godalming Town.

Three different scorers at Northwood Park saw Northwood make it two wins in a row as Michael Murray, George Nicholas and Nana Asamoah scored to give them a 3-0 home win over Aylesbury's next opponents, Marlow.

A debut hat-trick from Jack Higgs, and one from another debutant Ryan Ingrey - signed this week from Royston Town - helped St Ives Town to a 4-3 win over third from bottom Uxbridge, who had twice lead a rollercoaster match at Westwood Road.

Lastly, the only draw of the day saw Barton Rovers and Aylesbury United share the spoils in a 2-2 result.

Field Double Earns Ducks Point

Saturday 06 September 2014 - 4:50 pm | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News

Stacey Field scored another two goals as Aylesbury United twice came from behind to share the spoils 2-2 at Barton Rovers.

After a fairly uneventful first half, the hosts edged ahead when Nat Peacock slotted home after a long ball had caught the Ducks defence out.

Just six minutes after the break and United levelled when Jesse Waites' wayward effort was headed in from virtually on the line by the ever alert Ducks number ten.

It marked the start of a seven minute spell which yielded three goals, with Barton reestablishing their lead almost straight away when the pass of the match released Billy Lannon who made no mistake with a clinical finish.

A great move then ended with Reynolds squaring for Field to tap home and make it 2-2, and despite both teams having chances to win the game that was how it finished.

FA Cup Replay Roundup

Wednesday 03 September 2014 - 09:51 am | Added by: Admin to First Team, Club News

It was a largely successful evening for the Southern League Division One Central sides involved in FA Cup Preliminary Round Replays, but there was the disappointment of early elimination for Bedford Town and St Ives Town.

A crowd of 552 saw Bedford go down to a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of United Counties League side AFC Rushden & Diamonds in what was the reformed club's 100th game.

Meanwhile, in a dramatic game at Westwood Road, St Ives lost 3-0 on penalties following a 3-3 draw with Dereham Town, after extra time.

Trailing 2-0 after just 20 minutes, the hosts had fought back with goals from Will Fordham and Jonathan Hall - the latter in stoppage time - sending the tie into the extra time, only for Dereham to retake the lead again.

St Ives were saved again when substitute Karl Gibbs struck a minute before the end to force penalties, but their fate was sealed by one saved and two missed penalties in the shootout.

Happier evenings were enjoyed by Bedworth United, Daventry Town, AFC Hayes, Northwood and North Greenford United, who all progressed to the 1st Qualifying Round.

Bedworth needed extra time to finally see off the threat of near neighbours Coventry Sphinx, as Chris Tullin marked his 500th Greenbacks game with the third goal, adding to the one scored by Daniel Creaney seven minutes earlier, as his side eventually won 3-1.

Also winning, by the same scoreline in extra time, were Northwood, who overcame Spartan South Midlands Premier Division side Kings Langley. Mitchell Weiss had given Langley the lead, but Nana Asamoah levelled on 83 minutes, before extra time efforts from Robbie Hastings and an own goal sent Woods through.

A Tom Berwick goal five minutes from time helped Daventry Town overcome relegated Ashford Town (Mx) 2-1 at Communications Park, whilst North Greenford United beat Hanworth Villa 2-1 at Berkeley Fields.

Lastly, AFC Hayes picked up their first win of the season in some style, winning 4-0 at Holmer Green to make amends for missing a number of chances as the sides drew 1-1 the previous Saturday.
