Graham Read comments on the renewal of the lease with Verada:

It is disappointing that we have been unable to secure ownership of the site. However, we have to be thankful that the landlord has agreed not to take possession of the site, as he was entitled to. As reported by Bill Carroll he and I have advanced the funds to the Club to bring rental payments completely up to date.

We now have to get on with the new season knowing that at least the lease is secure. John Newman and I are confident that we are turning the corner in producing new forms of income to the Club and, although the current season will still be tight financially, we believe that the work being done now will produce a substantial increase in income by next season.

It may be that we can try again next summer to purchase the club site but we also need to consider finding a site on which to build a new Stadium. We have to admit that the present site has severe constraints and the Club could operate more efficiently with a different layout and with more training facilities on site. We will begin to discuss this option with AVDC to explore what might be done on the many new development sites planned for the Vale.

In the meantime, we continue to appeal for support for the new 500 Club, our new sponsorship programmes and for fans to guarantee that we hit a minimum of 600 through the gates at each home game. Only by this help can we begin to climb up the league structure again.

Although Bill Carroll will no longer be a Director he will be continuing to work on our junior development programmes with our long awaited PASE scheme now scheduled for next season and, under Jerry Dimond?s direction, Bill will be consolidating and expanding the link with Aylesbury Town FC.

The club will have three under 18 teams playing in leagues this season so that all youngsters in the Vale will now have the opportunity to play under structured coaching and playing systems providing the opportunity to graduate to the senior Aylesbury United teams.

Bill?s resignation does leave us short of active Directors and we continue to look for new blood willing and able to contribute to the Club?s efforts.
