Liam Smyth's Injury: Worse Than Expected

Aylesbury United are devastated to learn that midfielder Liam Smyth will be out for the entire season after full diagnosis on his knee injury was received.

An exploratory cartilage operation performed by a consultant has revealed that he has a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament - almost identical to the injury sustained by Matt Butler.

Assistant Manager Mark Eaton summed up the loss of one of United's key players:

"It is pretty much the same as Matty Butler. It would have been a lot easier to take if this had been diagnosed in the first place but for the lad to be thinking about playing within weeks to being out for the best part of a year is very tough.

Naturally we are all devastated at the club and will be doing everything we can to assist with their recovery.

To have our two central midfield players who made the most appearances last year and a crucial part of our plans this year injured in this way is bad luck beyond belief.

Matty’s operation is Tuesday we are hoping Liam will be able to get in as soon as possible and then begin his rehab. The only positive is at least they will be able to do this together."
