Aylesbury United News Story

Tompkins' Hat-trick for Hayes Sends Ducks Out

Aylesbury let a two-goal lead slip and conceded five goals for the second game in a row as they went out of the Red Insure Cup 3-5 at home to AFC Hayes.

It was another match which epitomised United's season so far: bright in attack but naive at best in defence.

United conceded a penalty within three minutes which Tompkins scored, but they battled back to level through Tyrone Taylor's first goal for the club on ten minutes.

Midway through the first half they went in front when Chris Reed headed home Dean's corner kick, then Ashleigh James extended that lead after the break.

But Hayes weren't to be denied and they quickly pulled a goal back through that man Tompkins, and Aylesbury began to crumble.

Tompkins added his third to level the game, before Danilson Vincent scored twice more to compound a miserable second half for the Ducks.

It means new manager Tony Joyce will have to wait for his first win in charge, but he will be frustrated at the nature of his side's undoing after they appeared to be well on course for the 2nd round at one point.
