On another FA Vase weekend, the league schedule was slightly reduced to nine Premier Division fixtures.

Tring Athletic took advantage of Aylesbury’s lack of action by leapfrogging the Ducks into 8th place with a 2-1 win at Stotfold. Athletic lead on the stroke of half time through Stewart King, only for Sean Herr to level for the home side 15 minutes from time, but it was Tring who took the points when Sam Mitchell netted late on.

There was a surprise win for bottom-markers Holmer Green who came out top of a seven-goal thriller at Berkhamsted where Gary Pape’s winner two minutes from time gave them a 4-3 victory. Berko had previously been winning 2-0 after just six minutes before Holmer’s rally, but, despite the result, the Bucks side still remain five points adrift of safety.

2nd placed Dunstable Town won their second game of the week, although by just the one-goal this time after their midweek 6-0 thumping of Oxhey Jets. The Blues dominated their game, but had to make do with a 1-0 result against Hadley, Nick Jackson firing the winner 10 minutes from the end.

Close behind them, town neighbours AFC Dunstable are up to 3rd by sneaking a 1-0 win at Hertford Town, James Baldry scoring the decisive goal after ten minutes. Also moving up the table are St. Margaretsbury who climbed a place to 15th by beating struggling Hanwell Town 4-2 at home.

Michalis Livesay rescued a point for Hillingdon Borough with a goal three minutes from time as the high flying London side shared the spoils with Leverstock Green, who had taken the lead through former Aylesbury striker Lewis Pritchard after 75 minutes.

Biggleswade United picked up a much needed win, their first in the league since October, by beating fellow ‘near the bottom’ outfit Harefield United 2-0 at home, Sean Murray scoring both the goals.

Elsewhere, in mid-table, Ian Cooper scored again for Colney Heath to help his side to a 2-1 home win over Hatfield Town, and Broxbourne Borough recorded a 2-0 win over London Tigers.

Congratulations to Ampthill Town who enjoyed their day at the seaside in the FA Vase 3rd Round by overcoming Lancing 3-1 after extra time. Two ex-Ducks were on the scoresheet in Danny Nicholls and Lea Coulter as the Bedfordshire team came from behind to take the glory.

In the all Premier Division clash, Royston Town were victorious at Haringey Borough 2-1 thanks to two strikes from Tom Malins. Richard Worrell pulled a late penalty goal back for Haringey, but it was too little too late for the Coles Park side.
