Aylesbury kick-off their 2012/13 pre-season campaign at Icknield Way, home of Spartan South Midlands Division Two side Tring Corinthians, familiar ground for some Ducks supporters as it was also first destination for friendly action just three years earlier.

On that occasion, the ground hosted Aylesbury United vs Hayes & Yeading United, with Martin Stone’s newly assembled squad largely outclassed in a 3-0 defeat. The Ducks will be hoping the scoreline is closer to the 4-1 defeat inflicted on the Corries last season in what was the side’s only meeting to date.

The Challenge Trophy tie was an eventually comfortable win for Aylesbury, with winger Lewis Hallford terrorising the Corries late on, helping set up a brace for Paul Edgeworth and goals by Joey Acheampong and Ben Baines.

Tring are back under the management of Simon Lacey – lifelong Ducks fan who was famously thrust into the managerial hotseat in the Christmas period of 2003 after the departure of Kevin Wilson having been reserve team boss at the time.

Returning after a five-year break, Lacey guided Corries into the Spartan South Midlands League in 2005 during his first spell in charge and they have remained in Division 2 ever since.

Their side on Saturday may well feature popular ex-Ducks in the shape of veteran Mick Swaysland, and diminutive striker Danny Gray, along with former United youth/reserve players Ross Gregory, Dave Cross and Darren Miles.

Aylesbury, meanwhile, have had a busy summer and their side could include some of the new signings announced earlier in the month, with several triallists also training with the club in recent weeks.

Kick-off at Tring Corinthians is at 3pm.
