The lengthy saga surrounding Luke Burbidge’s switch to Weymouth from Calor League Premier Division rivals Poole Town appears to have finally come to an end.

Weymouth boss Brendon King was first linked with a move for the non-contract winger back in July but a couple of rethinks by the player has seen the whole affair stretch out for almost a month.

The transfer has also caused a bit of hostility between the two clubs after Burbidge (pictured) took part in a training game for the Terras before their seven-day approach for his services had elapsed.

The Dolphins did threaten to contact the Football Association over the matter but it now appears they are ready to draw a line under the situation.

Posting on the East Dorset outfit’s message board late on Tuesday night, Poole vice-chairman Chris Reeves said: “Sorry guys Luke has decided he is going to join Weymouth.

“Tom (Killick) and I have long agreed you don’t keep an unhappy player.

“We only want players who want to be with us - there are plenty of those!”

King sees Burbidge as a crucial part of his new-look squad and is now looking forward to seeing the player in action.

He added: “It should all be sorted now and he will go straight into the squad for our opening game at St Neots on Saturday.

“He is a very fit lad so the fact he hasn’t had as many minutes as he would have liked this pre-season won’t be a problem for him.

“When he is not training or playing he is in the gym and I am sure he is going to prove a very good addition for us.

“He is quick, he works hard, he gets crosses in and he scores goals, which is exactly what you want from a wide player.”
