Burnham must be fully focused every time they play if they are to survive in the Calor League Premier Division.

That's the message from manager Martin Stone (pictured) who said the team's fine pre-season form will count for nought when the league kicks off at Corby Town on Saturday.

The Blues rounded off their pre-season preparations with a comfortable 4-2 win over rivals Slough Town. But Stone said the players know that it won't mean a thing when the serious business gets underway this weekend.

Burnham's pre-season results have seen them beat Hendon, Slough, and take the scalps of Skrill South sides Maidenhead United and Hayes & Yeading United.

“Last year, there were games when we could turn up and play for 20 minutes, and have the game won,” he said.

“But that’s not going to be the case this year."

Danny Burnell struck the first blow against his former club on Saturday, netting after 10-minutes, from a Ryan Blake cross. He was delighted to notch against his old team-mates and continue his scoring run that has seen him score four goals in three games.

He said: “I thought we had an indifferent start to the game, but it’s always nice to score against your old club and that’s four goals in three games for me now so I’m happy with that.

“I think we’re coming on very well.

“This is a good result against a very decent side and I don’t think Slough are as bad as we made them look today."
