Marlow players have been warned to expect a baptism of fire when they kick off their Calor League Division One Central season this weekend.

Blues boss Mark Bartley expects his side to go on a steep learning curve to adapt to the rigours of the Calor League Division One Central, but he is backing them not to be one of the two clubs that are relegated this season.

He said many will expect Marlow to be something of a dark horse this season, having won the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division at a canter last season.

But Bartley (pictured) said simply staying in the division will be a tough ask for his inexperienced players.

Marlow start at home to Leighton Town on Saturday, before travelling to Chertsey Town on Tuesday. Bartley said both sides would be tough to beat with plenty of experienced players at this level.

"It's going to be a very tough year for us and the players are well aware of that," he said.

"It's going to be a steep learning curve, and they will be playing against much better organised sides and against a better calibre of player.

"It's going to surprise one or two players, but I hope that they will learn their lessons and grow over the course of the season."
