9 Men of United Lose Narrowly to League Leaders

Thursday 07 December 2017 - 12:09 am | Added by: Ian Pluck to First Team, Club News | |

In the first match of Ben Williams' caretaker period in charge of Aylesbury United, the Ducks battled hard before going down to a narrow defeat to AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

Losing keeper Jack Sillitoe to a contentious red card after 28 minutes meant Greg Williams had to don the gloves again; not for the first time the veteran midfielder turned in a man of the match performance between the sticks with many outstanding saves.  However he was beaten by 2 strikes by Tom Lorraine, the second in the 92nd minute, ensuring the League leaders strengthened their hold on the top spot.

To add to their woes, the Ducks saw skipper Jack Wood sent off for two yellow cards in the second half, in a match that wasn't dirty by any means, but the remaining players fought hard to the end to give plenty of encouragement for the games ahead.
