Following Saturday’s game and speaking with various people it becomes clear that we are all rather frustrated at this stage of the season.

Looking at the league table and following our great run since January, it is clear we cannot really go anywhere in terms of our league position. As much as we try to motivate ourselves as a squad at some point the games do become end of season friendlies just because of their nature. You can only play to stop teams getting promoted for a certain amount of time, we really want to be playing for ourselves.

The real positive for me and my management team is that we set the players a target to top a ‘mini league’ of teams above and around us, and we have achieved that, playing some great football along the way. The players know what is required from them to wear this shirt and we will endeavor to keep that effort going in the last two games.

The scenario we find ourselves in gives me even more reason to put together a squad for next year that isn’t in this position, we really want to be challenging for the playoffs and still in a cup at this stage.

Regardless of how the final two matches play out (and I can assure you we will be giving it everything) the players have been fantastic since January and hopefully, with a few additions over the summer we can be even more competitive from the first whistle next season. As frustrating as this kind of end of season is we must not forget the position we were in and how much we have progressed in a short space of time, laying the foundations for next season.

Enjoy the last two matches and we look forward to seeing you at the Club Presentation evening on 4th May.
