Aylesbury United Ladies & Girls enjoy Reading Women Sister Club Day

Sunday 9th September saw the start of the new FA Women’s Super League season and players from Aylesbury United’s U9s, U10s, U11s and U12s travelled to Adams Park to support their big sister, Reading Women, in their opening match against Yeovil Town Ladies.

The match was Aylesbury United’s Sister Club Day and the players were invited to be flag bearers, mascots and ball girls for the game. The girls also got the opportunity to practice their shooting skills in the fun zone before the match and afterwards they got to meet the Reading Women players who posed for photos and signed autographs.

Evie Matthews and Morgan Briggs were the two lucky girls chosen to be mascots and led the Reading Women players onto the pitch while their fellow teammates provided the guard of honour.

“I was really pleased to be picked to be a mascot,” said Evie. “The players were kind and made me feel comfortable by talking to me about my football. I did get to collect the ball quite a bit which was fun. If you get the opportunity I would definitely recommend it!”

“I was so pleased to be picked as a mascot,” said Morgan. “The players were all very friendly and I really enjoyed the whole day. It was a great experience to watch the game and has inspired me to keep on playing football.”

All the girls enjoyed the Sister Club Day experience and the pitch side view of Reading’s 4-0 start to the season. Lauren Bruton, who visited the girls at training at the end of last season, scored the third goal from the penalty spot - the practice penalty she took against U12s goalie, Imogen White, was probably still fresh in her mind and boosted her confidence.

A big thank you to all the girls, coaches and families that came along to show their support for Reading Women and making the Sister Club Day a great day out.

“It was such a great afternoon! Thank you again to everyone. Faith has come home buzzing as she met Lauren Bruton having watched her on telly a few days ago!”
