Saturday 4th May saw Aylesbury United Ladies & Girls FC’s U10s, U12s and U16s compete in the Bucks Girls Football League Cup Finals at the ASM Stadium in Thame.

First up was the U10s against Chesham United. Aylesbury came out battling straight from the whistle and following some great passing and movement the ball landed to Jess on the edge of the area who smashed it home for the first goal. Chesham pulled one back before Aylesbury managed to regain the lead with another goal from Jess. Aylesbury then went into top gear and added a third from Ruby, a fourth from Jess and a fifth from Chloe creating a 5-1 lead going into half-time. The second half kicked off and Chesham pulled one back before Ruby scored to make it 6-2. Some great passing set up Jess to score her 100th goal of the season. Chesham replied quickly with two goals only for Chloe to hit home to make the final score 8-4.

“I’m so proud of the girls,” said U10s manager, Marcus White. “What a great accomplishment and well done to Jess on reaching her century.”

The midday kick-off was an U12s derby between Aylesbury United’s Whites and the Greens. This was always going to be a competitive match: the Whites finished third in Division One while the Greens finished second in Division Two. After a slowish start both sides got into the game before the Greens found themselves 2-0 up after goals from Milly and Felicia. The Whites needed to step it up and so they did with Sophie Bishop squeezing in a goal after a long run before doubling her tally straight from a corner to make it 2-2 at half time. A quick start to the second half saw Sophie Bishop complete her hat-trick from long range before adding a fourth just five minutes later. The Greens never gave up and carried on pushing right up the final whistle but couldn't pull it back. Final score 4-2 to the Whites.

“It was a fitting end to what had been a fantastic season for our girls,” said U12 Whites manager, Jon Bishop. U12 Greens manager, James Byrne, was equally complimentary of his team: “All of the girls were absolutely superb and I couldn’t be any prouder.”

The last game of the day saw Aylebury’s U16s face a determined Great Horwood playing in their last ever match together. Aylesbury dominated the first half with three goals from Hollie, Zofia-Mae and Kiyana and went into half-time leading 3-1. Great Horwood, playing the game of their lives, clawed back a second goal and continued to push Aylesbury right up to the final whistle. Final score 3-2 to Aylesbury.

“Words cannot describe how proud these bunch of girls make me,“ said U16s manager, John Reid. “They believed in each other and fought hard. What an amazing achievement.”
