Ducks Beaten by Hanwell

In a noticeable change from Tuesday's match against Colchester United U18s, today's squad numbered just 15, instead of the 20 that appeared for the previous match.  This allowed more players to get much needed minutes on the pitch and also saw the return from injury of skipper Jack Wood and Ollie Hogg for the last 30 minutes.

The Ducks started well, taking the game to their opponents.  Just two minutes on the clock and a long ball into the right channel saw Harry Jones chase and collect the ball, before cleverly turning Andy O'Brien on the bye line.  He looked up and pulled the ball back to Jacob Hutchinson, supporting from the left side to slot home from 12 yards to open the scoring.

Ten minutes later and the visitors were level; a long diagonal ball found No 10 wide on the left.  He beat Anthony Ball for pace and crossed deep to the far post, where Brian Testolin ghosted in front of Jake Bewley to plant a firm header past Jack Hopwood.

On 26 minutes Hutchinson was dispossessed in midfield, with the ball played out to No 10, who this time cut inside Ball and fired a shot from 18 yards past Hopwood.

The third goal came 12 minutes from the end.  Again No 10 was involved as he collected a cross field ball and stepped inside before laying it into the path of a substitute who scored from 12 yards.

Positives to come from the match were the return from injury for the final 30 minutes of both Jack Wood and Ollie Hogg.  Harry Jones battled away well in a lone striking role, holding the ball up well, but lacking in support at times.  Make no mistake though, this was a useful Hanwell Town team who will be hoping to do well in the Isthmian League this season.  However, there is plenty of work to do for the management team as they trim down the squad and finalise their preferred starting XI for the start of the season on 17th August against Corby.  Before that match, one remaining friendly at Northwood next Saturday.

Good luck to Hanwell for their season!
