Forthcoming Events At The Club

Thursday 01 May 2003 - 12:00 am | Added by: Admin to Club News, First Team | One comment |

The annual presentation evening will be held at the club this Monday the 5th May, which is conveniently after we lift the Berks & Bucks Cup (hopefully!) Proceedings start at 7pm, and include Player of the Season awards, as well as presentations to all teams, firsts, reserves, youth and ladies. The evening will be hosted in the usual lighthearted manner, so get yourself down for what will be a good night.

On Friday 9th May the 2nd Supporters v Staff match will be taking place, as the teams battle for the trophy so famously won by the Supporters last season, beating a side containing such quality as Terry Back and Cliff Hercules 5-4. The cream of the Chicken Run 'talent' will be on display, so come and watch what will be an entertaining and, no doubt, comical match! The game kicks-off at 7.30.

Tomorrow

Of course, tomorrow sees our league campaign draw to a close, with the long trip to Heybridge Swifts. In a game that will be crucial for the prospects of Heybridge, Chesham and Boreham Wood, emotions will no doubt be running high. A defeat for Heybridge will see them relegated, and perhaps Chesham safe. However, a win for Heybridge will see Chesham relegated to the first Division, which would mean losing our Boxing Day derbies. Something I'm sure we don't want to happen.

If you can't get to Heybridge tomorrow, why not come and watch the Reserves final game of the season, at home to Hillingdon Borough. The ressies have done brilliantly this year in achieving promotion to the Suburban League Premier Division, and still have a chance of winning the Championship. If they win by 21 clear goals, and Oxford City lose, then the title is Aylesbury's!!!

A goal in the last five minutes condemned Aylesbury to a second defeat in a row, and ensured Heybridge's Premier Division safety. The Swifts' win means that our near neighbours Chesham are relegated, despite their heroic 1-0 win away at Hendon, along with Boreham Wood, who lost 1-2 at Maidenhead. Incidentally, ex-Duck Scott Honeyball scored Wood's goal, but it wasn't enough for them.

The final league table makes good reading for the Ducks, as we finish in 17th place. Even so, a win today would have seen us reach 15th place in the table.

All eyes will now be on Monday's Berks & Bucks Cup Final against Maidenhead, at Chesham United.

Aylesbury 1 Bishop's Stortford 2

Aylesbury's recent run of good form was ended at Buckingham Road by our old Division 1 adversaries, Bishop's Stortford. In a match which saw kick-off delayed after Stortford were held up in traffic, both goals for the Blues came from crosses, converted by Andy Arinsiba and Rob Gould.

The Ducks' response came from Alex Stanley heading his first goal for the club, from a Greg Williams cross. It was the leader's first touch of the ball after coming on as a substitute.

The match also saw a first league start for Ryan Wiffin, although he had little chance to shine in what was a pretty poor match.

Maidenhead Reserves 2 Aylesbury Reserves 5

The Ducks second string overcame Saturday's defeat to see off Maidenhead 5-2 last night. Goals from Pritchard, Golding, Gray, Brumwell and Sells sealed the win, and Danny Lampton made an excellent double save to deny the home side.
