Hitchin Town

Hitchin Town 3 Aylesbury 2

29th October 2005

Hitchin Town made it three wins in a row for them, and three defeats in a row for Aylesbury United at Top Field this afternoon.

United were somewhat unfortunate to go in at half-time 2-0 down after Hitchin capitalised on two defensive lapses to score, the first after just 1 minute.

The Ducks showed good spirit in the second half, and pulled a goal back only for the home side to immediately score again, before Rob Gould scored late on to renew hopes of a comeback.

It wasn't to be though, as Hitchin clung on for their win and condemned Aylesbury to another defeat.

Banbury United 2 Aylesbury 1

25th October 2005

Banbury United came from a goal behind to snatch a victory in an entertaining game at Spencer Stadium this evening.

Drew Roberts had given the Ducks a first half lead with a fine effort, but they were pegged back when Andy Baird levelled on half an hour.

The second half saw Banbury in command, but it took a scrappy goal to finally break Aylesbury down after 68 minutes, from ex-Duck Paul Lamb.

22nd October 2005

Aylesbury's bid to reach the First Round proper of the FA Cup ended on a sad note as they were beaten 2-0 by Folkestone Invicta at Buckingham Road.

The Ducks missed a couple of decent chances in the first half, but in short the visitors were well organised and defended excellently from start to finish.

Folkestone took the lead after 17 minutes through James Dryden, and the same player added their second late in the game after United had failed to get back into the match.

15th October 2005

As expected, Aylesbury comfortably progressed to the FA Trophy 2nd Qualifying Round, beating ground-sharers Thame 5-0 at Buckingham Road.

Debutant Rob Gould set the Ducks off to a perfect start, nodding home within 5 minutes, but it took a further 40 before Paul Edgeworth doubled the lead, and Gould added another just before the break.

The second half was further plain sailing for Aylesbury, and they added another two goals through Jaggard and Neil Lazarus' first for the club.

Thame rarely threatened, but Jack Rashid was on hand when they did - making one miraculous save in the second period.

The FA Cup

Aylesbury 4 Wroxham 2

11th October 2005

Aylesbury won through to a 4th Qualifying Round tie with Folkestone Invicta after finally overcoming Wroxham 4-2 at Buckingham Road.

Gavin Jaggard capitalised on Drew Roberts' persistance to score a much disputed opener midway through the first half - there were claims that the ball had gone out and of handball from Wroxham.

United lost their way after the break though, and Wroxham equalised through Lee Gilman and could've scored again as they carved apart the home side.

Instead it was the Ducks who hit back and launched themselves into a flattering 4-1 lead, courtesy of a brace from Roberts and Jamie Kearns' first for the club.

Wroxham hit a late consolation, but it was never going to be enough and the Ducks went through.

The FA Cup

Wroxham 1 Aylesbury 1

8th October 2005

An equalising goal deep into stoppage time denied Aylesbury safe passage into the next round of the FA Cup at Wroxham this afternoon.

Drew Roberts had given the Ducks a 7th minute lead, and things looked to be rosy for the visitors as they appeared comfortable in the first half.

After the break things were less easy, Wroxham looking to get back in the match had plenty of posession.

It seemed as though United had done enough, but referee Mr Feerick found a large amount of injury time, and Adrian Coote popped up to book a replay.

The decider will now take place at Buckingham Road on Tuesday night, kick-off at 8pm.

Meanwhile look out for the draw for the 4th Qualifying Round which takes place on Monday.

Team Bath 1 Aylesbury 1

1st October 2005

Aylesbury are still without a win against Team Bath after the university side held United to a 1-1 draw at Twerton Park this afternoon.

After a strong start Jonathan Bewers set the Ducks on their way, scoring direct from a free-kick.

But Aylesbury were pegged back by the home side after the break, and Sean Canham equalised.

The Ducks had chances to win the game though, notably Drew Roberts having a couple of efforts saved, but it ended a point a piece.
